The Golf Course Photo Thread
Post some pics of courses you've played (preferably pics you or someone in your group shot). I'll start with my favorite - the 18th hole at Entrada in St. George, Utah.

16th hole at Cypress Point. I have been lucky enough to get to play it twice actually.

18th Hole at The Reserve in Oregon. There's a plaque on the side of the fairway here commemorating Craig Stadler knocking in a double eagle a few years back.
http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3514/p1000521uu6.jpg 14th at coeurdalene resort in Idaho http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8431/p1000131qf0.jpg http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8...6725c66ce6.jpg Killer Par 3 at Coeurdalene. 16/18 all have middle-flowing fairways, flat greens, etc., and 2/18 are virtually impossible. Case in point. http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1057/p1000141mn9.jpg Another pretty par 3 http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5199/p1000150ci9.jpg Pumpkin Ridge, North Plains, Oregon http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/5168/1004620ws4.jpg |
Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
HP, I can't get the "case in point" picture in your post to load for whatever reason. The rest of your pics are stellar, although Pumpkin Ridge looks like a mediocre muni in that shot IMO.
IIRC Entrada was a course in Links LS. stadler, pretty sick brag post about playing CP a couple of times. I don't think I've ever taken a camera onto a golf course in my life, so these yammering comments is all I got. Sorry. |
Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
Hey Porter,
I assume you take a boat out to the green at 14 at Coeur D'Alene? How does that work? -McGee |

[/ QUOTE ] I haven't had any problems with the "case in point." It's a killer par 3. Shaped like a ninja star with EXTREMELY narrow points, all edges of the green slope off, it's 80% surrounded by that giant trap you see except for the very back, that slopes off to a cliff. My usual draw didn't draw, and plopped it into the trap in the far back. Second shot off the tee (for kicks) landed on top of those rocks and went god knows where. As for the Pumpkin Ridge shot, it's a couple of things: one, it's just a bad shot. Two, that was taken in early March and the course wasn't in the best of shape. That shot is also of Ghost Creek, which is the public side, and the admittedly don't take as good a care of it as they do the private. |

When the group in front of you gets on to come back in, you hit, and take the ferry back out, leaving your clubs. That green is crazy. It's also on a cable, and they can vary the yardage between something like 115-180 yards. We played it at 155, and it was windy as hell. I managed to hit it, though. |
Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
HP,
The pic works now for some reason but I tried multiple times before. Yeah, that's a beautiful but goofy hole. Every hole needs a bail-out or "safe" area and that doesn't seem to have one. Also, regarding the movable green: that is quite a feat of engineering, and I wonder what sort of maintenance it entails because it would seem to me to be the type of thing that would break down really easily. |
Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
Is the green actually "floating" so that it could move with enough force? Like if the wind picked up over the water would it change your putting line, or is it on some kind of submerged track?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, it's actually floating. Our caddy said that you can actually feel it move quite often (we couldn't), but never to the point where it's extremely noticeable. The thing is massive. The course is just fantastic, and while it's a little expensive right now, it sounds like prices might have to go down. Apparently this course, Black Rock, is taking over a lot of their business. The course is supposed to be insane (I guess Tiger is buying a place there), and while Couerdalene use to get a lot of "celebrities" and visiting rich folk, our caddy said they're all going to Black Rock. Further, all the locals who used to play at the resort are now members of Black Rock. That website of the course is worth checking out, it looks amazing. Members only. |
Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
HP,
That course you linked has a putting course on it! [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] putting courses. Unfortunately, like most private courses the website doesn't detail course plans/routing/scorecard etc. Just like Clark's link to that course in the other thread. Bummer, I like seeing the hole routing and such. Also, that Coor Da Lien hole floats? So they just drag it around to whatever yardage they're feeling that day? Oh wait, that's probably not possible. Does it just float around to whatever it's feeling like that day? I thought it was anchored by some sort of contraption that slid it back and forth. |

1st Hole at Wolf Creek in Mesquite, Nevada.
http://acalprecision.com/wolfcreek2.jpg Here is another hole at Wolf Creek. Picture is from the tee box, the fairway turns left. Kinda whacked when trying to figure out how far to hit your drive, but it's a pretty hole. http://acalprecision.com/wolfcreek3.jpg |

[/ QUOTE ] Haha...yeah, we see that a lot in our group as well. We've played this course about 5 times, best drive I've had on this hole is where the cart is in the middle of the fairway. Otherwise, I'm on the dirt or in the creek you mentioned. |

Clark how did you get to play here? Thought this was private? [/ QUOTE ] I am in a rather large money fantasy football league and one of the members hosted the live draft (no computers/phones allowed) at the course. We all played Sunday, had dinner, drinks, draft then poker. Stayed in some pretty high-end cabins on the property overlooking the 15th fairway/lake. We then played again on Monday morning before leaving town. Super nice guy and it pretty much ruled. |

Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
Troll,
I saved the pics to my hard drive. I then tried to upload them to a pic resizing site but it keeps hanging. At that point I would save the filed, upload them to photobucket, and post them here. Bear with - they're such huge pics that it just may take a long time to load them. If I can get this done I'll fix that post and delete this one. The guy who posted that could also send me links to those photos of about 50% size and I'll edit the post. |

Wow that pic is super pretty.
OK, seeing this thread reminds me I'm gonna try to resize those pics again. We'll see how long it takes from posting this to editing it, provided I don't get interrupted with something stupid like work. EDIT: OK did it. Had a slight delay when I stopped to spam ATF. They're smaller than I thought they would be, TDouble if you want me to try to make them a little bigger let me know. |
