I keep hearing about you drinking V.O. & Coke. Is there something wrong with American whiskey that you have to buy it imported from Canada?

A long time ago, at the start of my storied drinking career (which, when I finally hang up the shot glass I'm sure to be a first ballot Hall of Famer) I messed around with V.O. a bit, but then got wise and now I roll with Jack Daniel's. Looking back I chalk that phase of my life up to youthful whimsy and experimentation, like sleeping with another man just to see what it's like.

I've always been a Canadian whisky guy, starting with Black Velvet in high school.

The only reason I drink VO is because I can't afford Crown Royal -- yet. There is no better whiskey than Crown Royal, but VO is a close second.

Chivas and water is kind of my current go-to with whiskey. I used to drink a lot of Jack and water / Jack on the rocks, but I find Chivas much smoother.

I like Americans.

I like a lot of American stuff. Like apple pie, cheerios, and Jessica Alba.

But you guys know [censored] all about whisky. Whisky is supposed to be made of [censored] malt, not corn or rye. Whisky isn't supposed to be drunk from tumbler glasses, and it definitely isn't supposed to be mixed with ice, or god forbid, coke. But I suppose that becomes a necessity when it tastes like something a bladder infected 300 pound guy might produce at 3 AM. The only purpose of bourbon is to produce casks for the storing of proper single malt whisky.

As for you whiskey snobs, Jack is plenty fine for me. And yeah, I know I drink it with mixer (typically Diet Coke) but it's my experience that drinking whiskey straight or on the rocks is the calling card of the old, gout-ridden red-nosed alcoholic, and I'm not there yet.
