most watchable pros

This list is shorter than boring pros.

Negreanu
Hansen
Gavin
grinder
Scotty
Matusow
Hellmuth

Are there any others worthy to be included?

Pretty much anyone who is super aggressive.

Tuan Le comes to mind.

I can't watch Tony G after his embarassing tirade at the International final table, where he just goes on for minutes about what a horrible call the man made. I honestly just see him and want to punch him in the face.

The same can be said for Matusow and Hellmuth.

I'll agree with Gus being one of the most watchable pros, but I'd much rather watch guys like Ivey, Greenstein, Juanda, Reese, and Cunningham than Hellmuth, Matusow, Tony G, and Laak. I guess most guys I find most watchable are ones most you would put on your "boring" list. I prefer watching class acts to low-class antics.

Of all the loudmouth guys, I find Tony G the most entertaining.

Its not the same. There are a few times where I've thought Matusow and Hellmuth have crossed the line (the former when he really rags on Gus Hansen at the end of Poker Superstars, and the latter at a table where he just started swearing at some other player), but nothing compared to Tony G's tirade.

Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari. Both have great personalities (even though I don't respect laak much as a person for -EV reasons)

Re: most watchable pros

Matusow does go over the line. But he stops after
he realizes it. Like in the main event, he tried
to apologize to Raymer.

I guess the question should be "are there pros you
would go out of your way to watch on TV?" Like
many refuse to watch the WPT. If the right mix
of players made the final table, would that WPT
telecast be worth watching?

I'll have to give this some more thought, but one thing strikes me. How come no women have been mentioned?

I would start with Jennifer Tilly. She's attractvie, which isn't a bad thing. But more than that, as a fairly new player, it's just fun to watch her.

It's new and exciting to her, a big change from her acting career, and she's like a kid in a candy store, serious about being better, but at the same time, you can tell she's having a great time, and that she's just happy to be there.

Another in Jennifer Harmon. I guess it's a combination of her success in what it still mainly a man's world, and that she and her husband can both succeed at poker and make the marriage work.

Besides all that, how can you not root for someone who has gone through a kidney transplant, conducting herself with grace as a player, and from what I know, as a person, the entire time.

She is flat out insprirational, and I'm rooting for her every time she plays.

Re: most watchable pros

Prahlad Friedman
Jeff Lisandro
Tony G.
Mike Matusow
Norman Chad
Phil Hellmuth
Daniel negreanu
Humberto Brenes
Gus Hansen

Sitting in that order. LOL The dealer would probably go insane.

TheCount212 08-27-2007 05:04 PM

Re: most watchable pros

My table would include:
Matusow
Hellmuth
Hansen
Deeb
Harrington (his decision-making trumps the placid demeanor and the stupid Celtics hat. So classy he never even fist pumps after winning a hand for fear of showing up the loser.)
Scotty
Mike Caro (come on, his hair alone is worth the price of admission)
Humberto Brenes (just to see him get sucked out on while doing his annoying shark routine)
Esfandiari

Too annoying to watch:
Negreanu (self-proclaimed genius)
Jennifer Tilly (loses a hand and says "good thing I have my day job" to someone who isn't a millionaire Hollywood star)
Gavin Smith (sorry, he's just not terribly bright)
Humberto Brenes (unless of course he's getting sucked out on while in the midst of his shark routine.. in which case he's priceless)

with laak and farha rotating through

Tony G & John J at same table? It's probably happened and I don't remember. If it's possible to sprain an eyeball, this would be the moment though.
