To Show or Not to Show

I was just wondering what the general consensus is for showing your cards in Limit hold'em when you have a monster and some donkey sucks out on the river and/or plays cards he shouldn't and flops lucky.

Do most people show their cards, to let the donkey know how lucky they were, and how when you raise preflop, you have a hand? Or do most people not show and let the donkey think they're playing winning poker?

The worst part is that this barely makes the top 10 for most moronic threads I've seen in Medium Steaks limit the past few days.

Re: To Show or Not to Show

You need to move up in limits. That way people will respect your raises and won't suck out on you as much. Then you can show the donkeys what real poker strategy is.

Your EV should go up by like 10x at least. Maybe 20x if you start wearing sunglasses and listening to your iPod.

Throw your cards face up right at them or, if it's a crazy beat, hold them up, try to rip them in half, when you can't, eat them. I've seen this before, it works. (seriously)

Re: To Show or Not to Show

For the most part when I take a beat I rarely throw cards.

Instead, I sit there and wait. I stare at him while he scoops my chips. When the dealer starts asking for my cards I ignore him or her and continue to stare. Eventually it'll make your bad beater uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that he'll rack up and leave. One time he didn't leave but the rest of the table got fed up waiting 20 minutes from me to toss in my cards that they left. So I got to play him headsup.

Two hours and three hands later, he had all the money.

Tell him --

"You dumb fack! I raised under the gun. Didn't you read Hold 'em For Advanced Players? You need a Group 2 hand to call there, that's a Group 18 hand!"

Then when he starts laughing at you, tell him "Fack you, I'm going to go play no-limit. Then you donkeys can't outdraw me when I raise 10x the pot."

Don't show hands to good players because it helps them read you.
Don't show hands to bad players because they'll pay just to see what you have and might be more inclined to fold if they think they might get closeure for free.

on a side note, instead of showing, ask the table to guess ur hand. giggly and grin, announcing they will never guess it. then after the first person guesses any hand, quietly muck ur hand and stop giggling.

Re: To Show or Not to Show

Always show

Show the donkey you cards and glare at him for a full minute without mucking. Stand the cards on end and smash them with you fists. Use several hard blows so you knock down at least two players chip stacks. Now maybe you get a time penality for destroying cards (if not take a break) so go play pia gow at $500 per hand. Come back and stand directly over donkey and scream "are you still here!!!, you should be embarrassed and leave". Rack up and go home because you don't want to play in a game with loose unpredictable players. Tight games are more profitable

The only time I was ever sent home (barred for 24 hours) from CAZ was for biting my cards in half. I'd had my flopped set of Kings beaten in a ridiculous way. Even so, I would've just mucked them if the guy who beat me hadn't started laughing, giggling and needling me. That wouldn't bother me now but it did then. As the cards were headed to my mouth the dealer said not to do it but I did. Floorman sent me home and I tipped him $5 for his trouble. Actually, he did me a favor because I was on mega-tilt right then and he sent me home $800 winner.

Someone around here ought to give OP a serious answer, though. He's got to be wondering what is going on.

Next hand, move on, on a suck out. Its just part of making a living.

I like to show my cards when I lose, so that the other players think I am a moron, especially when I play a hand like an idiot. Otherwise, I never show, ever.

Maybe it's my fault. Do I suck as a mod?

This would be a good time to ask people if there's anything I can do to improve things. I actually disagree that MSLHE sucks; it seems like pretty awesome strat talk to me, but then again I am biased.

So let me know how I'm doing and what can be improved, and if you don't feel comfortable posting it, please PM me.
