30inch or 2 20 inch ?

what is the best to play 8 tables a 30inch or 2 20inch ?

2 20 inch ones are probably cheaper and give you more space...I think.

Can also play 9 (or 12 at a decent size) on just one 24" with 1920x1600 resolution. Thats assuming you are playing somewhere with resizable tables.

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

I have a 30" and a 1600x1200 20" secondary monitor in portrait mode. You can fit 9 tables on the 30" easily or even 12 at a reasonable size. That leave the second monitor for 2p2, chat, PT etc.

Seems like 2 30s would be overkill.

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

I use a 20.1" and it works well for 9-tabling (resizable tables on Stars). At first I thought the tables were too small, but now that I'm used to it, I would never go back to large tables.

Hi, I was thinking about buying 2 20inch monitors. How do they work as one? What do I need?

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

You need a video card that has two inputs (see image below). Alternatively, I think you can use 2 video cards as well. I'm starting to get behind the times with some of the new PC hardware (like PCI Express) so someone may have a more intelligent answer.

I used 2 22" before. then My wife just bought me Dell 30" last week for my birthday it's awesome. Now I used 30" and 22". 30" fit great for 12 tables while 22" I just used for other stuff like PT and ect.
30" will be your best choice there.

How is that possible?

With 2x 20" you have 3200x1200
With 1x 30" you have 2580x1600

This is more 220 pixels with the 2x 20".

Physical space:
Samsung 204b: w444 x h344 = h888 x w344 (2x 20" side by side)
Samsung 305T: w690 x h449

More 200mm wide with the 2x20" but more 105mm high with the 30".

In my mind i have more space with the 2x 20", you can fit 8 tables without any overlap and cheaper. For non-poker i guess the 30" are much better but for poker ONLY? I hope someone who have them both can answer because i don't know what to buy yet.

PS: The dimensions are from samsung.com

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

I got a 20 and a 17 and 8 tabling is good with 2 20s ok with the 17 with resizes but I wanna 12 table and a 30 would make it a lot easier as the tables on the 20 are smallish while playing 12

Obv 2 20. 20x2=40 30x1=30

Therefore, 40inch is more space them 30. Tada.

Assuming those resolutions are correct, and without resizing a typical 800 x 600 table, they will indeed both take 8 tables and no more. I'm not sure where you get 220 pixels from; you will actually have an extra 288,000 pixels with the 30" table, in a rather useless (at least for poker tables) 180 x 1600 strip when you turn the 30" sideways.

Of course, I'm sure many people instead resize or overlap and get more tables on there.

But, to answer the OP's question, it really depends on what you prefer, as the screen real estate is only 7.5% different.

How can they both take 8 tables whithout resizing? Only the 2x 20" can.

2x 20"
1600x1200 = 2 row of 2 tables = 4 tables (800x600 table)
1600x1200 = 2 row of 2 tables = 4 tables (800x600 table)

1x 30"
2580x1600 = 2 rows of 3 tables = 6 tables

To someone who only want the monitor to play poker, 6/8 tables, what's the best option? Im incline to say 2x 20", but i don't know... yet. But overall (DVD, internet, games,etc) i guess 30" is better.

And btw, how can you have more pixels in 1x 30"?

30" = 2580x1600 max resolution
20" = 1600x1200
2x 20" side by side = 3200x1200

I believe you can turn the 30" ninety degrees to make it a 1600x2580 = 4 rows of 2 tables = 8 tables.

I could explain this two different ways.

1) Put the 20" monitors on top of each other = 1600x2400 which is less than 2580x1600 (or 1600x2580 if you prefer).

2) 2580x1600=4,128,00 > 3200x1200=3,840,000

But of course, none of this is all that relevant to the OP. Again, the pixel count is very similar...I think it all comes down to personal preference.

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

Bobo Fett, this discussion is funny. Obv your are right about the pixels count. I did the math thinking about poker/tables only.

I discard the 400 pixels height difference between the 2 monitors (20" and 30") because you can't put another row of tables without overlap, and its not physically possible for my eyes and neck to play with a vertical 30" monitor.

In theory, for poker only, i prefer the 2x 20" because they have more pixel wide (and thats what matters, 1200 height is enough).

I don't know the prices in the USA but here in Europe, 2x 20" are half the price of 1 30" monitor... for the (almost) same pixel count.

English is not my first language, but i hope you understand what im trying to say.

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

I don't play a lot of poker at the moment, or a lot of tables. However, I <3 two monitors. It makes working with two windows at once easier, provides clearer separation of windows / programs, and generally is the way I like to roll.

But then I've never tried a 30", just 1x 24 or something so maybe I just love the extra real estate.

Yeah, I didn't want to be a nit about the math, but I thought maybe I wasn't being clear.

If you don't like the vertical monitor idea, you definitely would want 2 - 20s. You also make a good point about the price - I had the same thought. Not only that, but two monitors is something people ease into. I upgraded my single 17" to a 20" Samsung. I liked it so much that when I saw a deal on the same monitor, I picked up another one...even though I never play more than 4 tables. I never would have picked up a 30" to add to my 20", unless I got real serious about multitabling in a hurry.

As far as your English goes, it's better than my...well, any language other than English.

Re: 30inch or 2 20 inch ?

This thread would be much more helpful if people would post pictures of their setups where you can see the table count with the info if they are resized + monitor models + other info. There is the dell 30" thread that has many pictures but most of them only include the dell 30" model. I'm sure many of us like me have two samsung 204b's or similar and if requested I and many others can post a picture of my/their setup if it helps someone to choose

Currently I 12 table on 2 21" monitors, I have 9 tables on screen A and 3 tables on screen B. There is no overlap on the tables.

My setup looks like this:
XXX X

Can I fit 12 tables on one 30" monitor with no overlap?
I play on Stars so I can rezize them. Would the tables end up being a lot smaller or the same size as I have now?

Could my setup look like this?

Is division really that hard? You can use windows calc.

So, anyone have dual 30"? I'm not such such a rig is even possible, but maybe a motherboard with two PCI-E X16 slots and two gfx cards with dual-link DVI could do it?

i prefer the 30". i've had both setups, and though the 30 inch is much more expensive, if you can afford it, it is well worth it.

also, when you are doing something other than playing poker, the 30 inch is way cooler =)

it doesn't look like you can fit 12 tables on without any overlap. There's just a bit of overlap but enough of an annoyance for me. I'm going with the 30"in, but still a very nice monitor.
