Identify your leaks

Just thought this would be a productive thread for all of us to put out there areas of our game we think could use some work. Mods if you think this thread is lame/useless feel free to lock. I will begin:

I call to much pre flop - need to get better at raising or folding, esp against laggy opponents with a wide open range.

I don't double barrel enough, I cbet and then check fold turn way too often.

I'm too results oriented.

I don't notice quick enough when I'm tilting/playing bad in general.

Flame away on yourselves.

Re: Identify your leaks

I sometimes 3barrel bluff, when it`s obvious that oponent is not folding.
I talk myself into calling
I play pretty bad on 4th street
I call down to much with marginal hands
I play SCs out of position every once in a while
I tilt to much
I tilt to much
I tilt to much
I tilt to much
then I go to 100NL HU and got rapped in 1 day ... the pain
It sucks when you dig yourselve into a 1700$ hole the 1st day of the month.

I also fold out of turn too much.

I'm too confident that my marginal hands are good, so I make marginal decisions and lose lots of money because I tend to be wrong.

Re: Identify your leaks

I give too much credit to my opponents and get bluffed a lot
then I go on tilt and don't give my opponents enough credit and pay them off. stupid cycle

Re: Identify your leaks

1. I do not value bet enough (both quantity and size).

2. I do not fire the second barrel enough when my table image is strong.

3. I fire the second barrel way too much when my table image is weak.

4. I go on tilt if I have an extended run of really bad cards (i.e., the fold-a-thon), because I begin to panic if I see my stack slowly melting away at a table.

5. I am too results oriented.

6. I bluff at 10NL, which works like never.

7. If I am running poorly I am so paranoid I am going to lose more than I start folding way too much.

8. If I am running well, I fear that a big loss is going to take it all away so I start playing weak-tight.

9. I have a hard time stopping or getting up from a losing session (i.e., I want to win it all back) - see "Results Oriented" above.

10. While I do a good job evaluating tables before I sit down, I do not do a good job re-evaluating them to determine when the game has gotten too tight/tough.

11. I try to setmine with small pocket pairs UTG.

I sometimes can't lay down AA or KK when it's obvious some donk calling station who made the error of calling my 4 or 5x preflop raise with his SC or Axs then calls my pot sized bets on the flop and turn and has hit his miracle turn and river to make his runner runner str8 or flush, SIGH, I hate that siht gets me angry

Re: Identify your leaks

-Ive been trying to improve my game on the blinds.
-Its horribly hard for me to quit, no matter how good or bad I am doing, or how tired or tilted I might be.
-I get some trouble with flop texture, whenever I am going to c-bet (working on it also)
-I think I might have some trouble value betting the river, on spots that its pretty much standard to do so. I check down some good hands that could get much more value.

i act too quickly
i fold for bets that are too small sometimes (instead of re-bluffing)
i watch too much porn while playing
i bluff alot when induced
i bet the turn when i should check it too much
i check the river when i should bet it sometimes
i act too quickly
i don't use my reads enough
i don't get enough reads yet
i don't know multistreet ai percentages well yet
etc

Re: Identify your leaks

Cashing out too often to prevent myself from ever moving up to a level where I could get seriously pwned.
Also fiddling with Winamp too much and obsessing over the size of the tables on my screen (if they aren't 100% uniform and even 1 pixel overlaps another table it costs me 2bb/100).
Also playing too fancy against unsophisticaed opponents.

traz 08-22-2007 12:14 AM

Re: Identify your leaks

I let hands be taken away from me on the turn a little too often.

At 100NL and lower, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but I"m worried that later I won't be quite sure how to get to showdowns with more marginal hands. I'm also unsure if I even WANT to in generale. But I'm sure it's exploitable

Re: Identify your leaks

1. I tilt FAR TOO MUCH
2. I play too loose for the level i play.
3. My BR management is [censored]
4. I suck at HU poker and waste weeks of grinding being an aggrospewmonkey.
5. I suspect I over-value big draws on the turn and over-estimate my FE but I've go to look into that when I get home.
6. I don't leave tables when they become too tight and/or when I'm outclassed soon enough.
7. I play when tired leading to 1. far quicker
8. I VB too thin but thats cool because a month ago I didn't VB enough so I'm working on that now.
9. I don't take enough notes.
10.I need to started thinking in +EV rather than +$, that would prevent a lot of 1.

Re: Identify your leaks

-When I'm playing as few as two tables, my reads don't get detailed enough and I rely too much on PAHUD numbers (which are often based on <100 hands)

-I spent forever playing MTTs and STTs, so my table selection skills are non-existant.

-I attack weakness too much and fall into some traps (or my read is right but they still don't fold)

-I don't always balance well between checking for pot size control and betting for hand protection.

1. I don't know how to punish the limp min bet king who attacks my BB every hand.

2. I second guess my instincts.

3. I play too many tables to get good reads in villians.

4. I do't 2nd barrell floaters because I haven't got a read on them.

5. I think my raising requirments when folded to me in the sb might be too conservative.

6. I don't bet at nothing pots when no one is showing strength.

7. I don't have an experts knowledge of NL cash.

8. I haven't used PokerStove as much as I need to.

9. I play too many forms of poker, and can't decide on which to play.

10. After running bad, I second guess and might change my strategy. This is also my biggest strength because I am always refining and trying to study the game.

QFT...my bb/100 is so much sexier when I play 4 tables instead of 8. Here is my prob..typical session:

Sit down at 4 juicy tables..pwn..get bored...notice a table with 2 55/3's sitting...OMG I have to sit I'm gonna make so much moneys off these donks ship it crucial!!!!!!111 Continue to pwn...notice 3 more tables with uber-donks - sit down at 3 more tables...convince myself I can pwn at 8 tables as easily as 4...time out with AA UTG...curse

Re: Identify your leaks

- I'm pretty weak tight. (misses valuebets, calls with the best hand quite often, probably too often)

- I think i overthink some(many) situations, sorta MUBS but not really. Usually my analysis ends with "hmm i think i'm ahead but if i bet he can put me exactly on XY and play perfect against me"

- Way too short-term result-oriented. I get irritated if im down 5bb after 30 hands. I also obsess about my stats at each table and really feel stressed out if i'm running 9/4 or so at a table. im a moran.

so, to get creative... which ones of these leaks (not mine specifically, im thinking about all leaks mentioned so far) is the easiest one to fix, and how would you go about doing it?

also, i would suspect that many of these leaks are just different symptoms of a few underlying problems. how do we identify them?
(ie i think my root cause is lack of self-confidence and confidence in my abilities. hence the constant "fear" of getting outplayed)
