Ridiculous 600 BB pot at the Bellagio 5/10 NL

I was playing at the Bellagio 5/10 game yesterday, and I saw the most ridiculous hand I've ever seen live. Ok, so I don't play live that much and I'm sure you've all seen worse. Sue me.

I don't remember the exact action, but I'll relate it as best I can.

Donk in EP limps. He has a huge stack, probably like 4-5k which he made by luckboxing. Another player raises to 50. Some young guy who's one of the only TAGs at the table and probably the best guy there 3-bets to 200. Donk calls.

Flop is 953, two hearts. TAG leads for 200, donk instaraises to 600 = he has jack [censored]. TAG thinks for another and says "800 more". Donk calls.

Turn is an offsuit 2. TAG says, "well, I'm pot committed now" and shoves for I think his last 1400. Donk calls.

River is another offsuit 2. TAG shows KK and the donk mucks. At this point, the table is all going on about "wow, heart draw?" And I'm like, [censored] that, this guy didn't even have something as good as a heart draw. So I say, "dealer, I want to see that hand". Donk looks pissed as the dealer turns over AKo, no [censored] draw.

He then proceeds to try to justify it by saying, "I didn't know he was that strong". I think this the first case I've seen of "I put him on AQ".

Michael Davis, normally I am never one to tap the glass and during the whole hand even after I asked to see the cards, I made no criticizing comments on his play. The reason why I did it is because he had been raising me on every low flop when I was the PFR and I wanted to know if he range there was any pair/any draw, or if it was ATC. I had no intention of making him look like a complete monkey, though that's what happened in the end. But it's over now and all that's left is a story.

so basically what you're saying is that this complete donk repeatedly outplayed you earlier in the night, and you had to resort to a breach in etiquette to even figure out how he was playing.

hahahahaha

Ok, if you guys want to look at it that way, it's fine. I'm an online player, so I like having access to information that's available to me, even if etiquette dictates otherwise. I'm sure to you live players this is atrocious, and maybe it's something I should change. But this donk wasn't one of those friendly, tourist type donks who would get scared away by something like this. He was obviously a regular, just a really poor one, and I guarantee he'll be back at the tables playing tomorrow.

You do understand that rule exists to expose cheats.... you should not abuse it unless you think the person is cheating. It is not there for you to get "free-information" about the player. Being an "online-player" doesn't justify being a dick.

This may change the direction of the flame-fest a little, but whatever. I changed the story to make it a little more of a story. I did not actually ask to see his hand because I said to myself, "he has [censored]". I did do it for the information purposes.

That being said, the rule exists and people are allowed to use it. You're no different than the 2+2ers who think short-stacking is "wrong" or TuffFish saying that we shouldn't use PT/PAHUD because that's not how poker was meant to be played. Do I dislike short-stackers? Yes. Is what I did considered bad etiquette? Apparently so. Are any of the above against the rules? No.

When I'm playing in a game, I will use all of my available actions allowed within the game to maximize my edge over my opponents. Don't take this as some statement that I'm an angle shooter as well. To me angle shooting seems more like breaking the rules while avoiding getting caught. There are a number of angle shots that are specifically disallowed. On the other hand, it is clearly stated that I am allowed to ask to see his hand. I'm not saying, "I'm an online player, I get to be a dick". I'm saying, "I'm an online player, I like to use all information available to me even if the other live players don't".

I'm not certain it's still the rule at the Venetian, but their rule is/was that only the players still in the hand at showdown can ask to see the losing hand. I wasn't a fan of that house rule, but I guess it's there to guard against inappropriate dicks like you. I hope/expect that everyone asked to see your hand at each showdown after this.

Abusing a rule that is specifically in place to detect collusion to gain information because Villain is owning you is pathetic. Especially in a pot that you're not even in. You're a grade A tool.

"By sticking to the rules, you're just trying to use access to all the information possible". Does the weight of having more information on certain players outweigh the possibility of getting in more hands/hours against those same fish if they take it personally?

You should not have to showdown your if you think you are beat and should not be obligated to show even when asked by another player or even dealer. I think that's how it should be everywhere.
