September Atlantic City Trip

Post here if you are interested so I can PM and talk to you. So far I have vocal interest from Aragorn, Scary_Tiger, and Babar.
Even if you aren't going, any advice/leads/good deals would be nice.

Timeline:
Attached is Borgata's Tourney Schedule:
http://www.theborgata.com/Main.cfm?Categ...02CEB8EF66E9813

There are two possible weekends(Fri-Sun), 9/7-9/9 and 9/14-9/16(Start of Main Event).

The second weekend probably will give us the best action/most excitement, but the first weekend probably works best for me in terms of personal schedule. It is likely that we will do something like a Friday-Tuesday or something along those lines. Please respond with which dates are good for you.

Housing:
I'm working on finding us the best deal possible in terms of housing/distance and cost to Borgata. We will be sharing rooms and beds unless you specifically don't want to. If last weekend at FW was any indication, chances are I'll be sleeping when other people aren't anyways. It's possible that someone in our group will have a car, but no guarantee.

LOL DONKAMENTS:
If anyone is actually interested in playing in it, the only Limit Event is a 2-day event from Sunday, Sept. 9th - Monday, Sept. 10th. The structure looks reasonable. Here are the details:

Update(8/16/07):
Most people seem to be interested in the first weekend so we'll try to do something like Friday or Saturday-mid of next week(Tuesday/Wednesday) so we still get some of the good action that proceeds the main event.

I'm going to start calling places in the next day or two, starting with places where people have given me recommendations. So far I haven't gotten any so list them here for discussion.

People interested:

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

I will most likely be there as well... have not made it down to Borg in a while and it seems like a good weekend to go south instead of north to FW. As far as hotels go, I have stayed in quite a few in the area. Most were pretty much slums, but there are plenty of places within a short cab ride/Jitney bus ride (the cheap way to get from Borgata to other casinos) away. I'll post some info later.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Ben, PM me your phone #. My wife is probably gonna come with me, so we'll get our own room, but I definitely want to meet up with all 2 + 2'ers who will be there. I'll probably go from the 5th to 9th, and play the limit event.

scoresman 08-16-2007 12:12 PM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Stay in absecon. It's five minutes from the Borgata and usually pretty cheap. The knights Inn is pretty good and cheap. There is a comfort Inn and a Fairfield Inn that are both pretty nice, but they are priced a little higher then the knights Inn.

scoresman 08-16-2007 12:17 PM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Just did a search on expedia. Knights Inn average rate for fri 9/7 to tues 9/11 $ 68.85 a night. Comfort Inn north $ 97.50 per night. If you have any questions about other hotels in the area just ask me. I'm pretty familiar with most of them.

AragornX151 08-16-2007 01:14 PM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

I will be there from the 5th to 9th, staying at Borgata. Will play limit event for sure. If you call them and tell them you're playing in the tourneys, they give you a good rate.

Are you guys all friends in real life or is this open to any 2+2er? I am going to be there and would prefer to share a room as to defray cost.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

I've met a couple of these guys in real life, heard of others through other members, seen a few post, and don't know some too.

Yeah, I plan to meet anyone there who I don't know. Part of the fun.

I might be in AC that weekend...I think the games are going to be tougher than usual if all of you are there though! Not sure it will be a +EV time for me to play...

I might pop up during the first w/end. Would love to meet everybody.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Games won't be tougher; yes we'll be there but so will all the fishy tourney morons...there will be 9 20-40 games going

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

8/17/07 Update:
We're defintiely going to be doing the first weekend and part of the 2nd week(weekday rooms are cheap). I'm thinking something like Thursday 9/9-Wednesday 9/15 depending on what other people want to do.

I looked around at a bunch of hotels. The Borgata ones will probably breakdown to being around ~$300 a night on average so we're going to pass on them. This seems to be less of a problem because all the ballers and people with women will be staying on their own. I found some decent deals and need to book sometime early next week.

I need to know 2 things:
1. What days you need lodging.
2. Whether or not you can drive.

Please respond to my PM. Also If I don't send you one, just PM me.

IMO, missing a Bay Area September for AC is a bad trade.

ProfessorBen 08-18-2007 12:52 AM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

If you're talking to me, I'm currently on the East Coast anyways. I return to the Bay Area in late Sept. What am I missing?

Best time, weather-wise, in San Francisco all year.

How many places generally cash in a limit event like this?

edit: wait 9/9 is opening day; that sucks.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Update(8/22/07):
There are about 6-7 of us that are going to be there this weekend. However, half of you have your own rooms or are going to be driving from home, so at this point I'm just going to book a single room. I've gotten an offer or two from people to pick us up or drive so we're likely going to be looking for the best possible deal that's in the area. I want to have a room booked for that Friday-Sunday nights by the beginning of next week.

At this point, I'm still looking for someone to stay with during the days of the 2nd week (Sept. 10th-12th Monday-Wednesday) to split room costs, because it looks like most people are leaving Sunday. I know most of you have work/school/w/e, but if you don't, let me know.

I apologize for being vague here, but I think it's for the best for safety reasons. PM me or AIM me if you want to talk details.

ProfessorBen 08-22-2007 06:25 PM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

2nd Update(8/22/07)
I've looked through prices and my own schedule and I'm going to book a room for Friday night - Tuesday morning. Lodging rate looks like it will be between $30 and $45/night(cheaper if you're staying Sunday/Monday) depending on how well I can fill the room. I'll try to update this once people let me know if they're coming.

A few things that I may need help with:
I'm coming in on Greyhound Friday afternoon. I need someone to pick me up from the station and take me to the hotel to check in.

If anyone is staying until Tuesday or is in the area, it'd be nice if someone could take me to the airport Tuesday morning.

ProfessorBen 08-23-2007 11:08 AM

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Whether you're staying with us or not, it's probably a good idea to PM me your phone # or AIM. Once I'm there all I'll want to do is grind, grind, and grind so if you want to meet up we should exchange contact info before I get there.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Limit Donkament:
At least a couple of us that I've talked to are interested in playing the limit donkament on Sunday from 12pm-10pmish with Monday as day 2.

2p2 Meeting:
Most of the people will be there from Friday-Sunday so it seems like Friday or Saturday would be the best time to arrange a dinner because the donkament has Sunday booked. I know people will want to grind through the games during the evening so we're going to shoot for an early dinner on Saturday at around 5pm-6pmish.

We may also do a 2p2 live micro FLIPPAMENT or a game of 2/4 HORSE if we can get that arranged.

I'll be there both weekends probably. I'm a filthy degenerate so I will not be joining in on the lodging arrangements since I get free rooms but it would be cool to meet some of you guys while I'm down there.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

I've been chatting with Ben on IM, we both dig the idea of a drunken low limit HORSE game! I'll be there from Wed 5th to at least Sunday the 9th, staying at Borgata. PM me if anyone wants to swap IM info/plan dinner/games/etc.

Re: September Atlantic City Trip

Goals:
Play 40+ hours of 20/40 or higher(50+ if I bust on day 1 of donkament).
Sit through at least one 15+ hour session.
Have a plan for how much action I want bought for the limit donkament and any 40/80 I play.
Pay attention to every single hand played in the donkament.
Play the donkament to win.
Go to work late Thursday(last day so who cares) so I can play all night Thursday until check-in Friday afternoon.
Make sure to play during primetime(Friday/Saturday nights).
Start taking more precise notes on live tells.
Take jkamowitz on a ride to value town.
Run gooooooood.
