Best fighting style for real-life situations
say you are in a war and really wanna kill or disabilitate someone 1vs1, both unarmed, wich style is the best to know?
I've seen a LOT of people say that Brasilian Jiu Jitsu is best because it wins alot at UFC and all, also some people say Muay thai is good, but It's hard to believe all those fancy bruce-lee kung fu/shaolin styles are not at all effective. and If jiujitsu is best is that what they teach in the military? |

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
Don't know if it's the best, but I'll throw Krav Maga out there.
From the Wikipedia site: "In Krav Maga, there are no hard-and-fast rules. It is not a sport, and there are no competitions. All the techniques focus on maximum efficiency in real-life conditions. Krav Maga generally assumes a no quarter situation; the attacks and defenses are intended to inflict the most pain possible on the opponent in the least amount of time. Groin strikes, headbutts, and other efficient and potentially brutal attacks are emphasized." |

It would be way more fun to see him fight in his own way. No gloves, no grappling. I don't give a damn who wins in an MMA for or what's more practical, but you could see some really awesome fun fights with just pure striking no gloves, no stupid points like boxing, scoring like Pride. |

what do the elite of the military use?

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
Not to give a crappy answer, but it is all relative...
Fights normally go to the ground..So BJJ is normally the best for ending a fight quickly on the ground.. However..You dont wanna go for an arm bar and have someone friends kick you in the face..So maybe ending it quicker is better.. For standing Muay Thai or straight boxing might be best.. Course these arent great for weapons..So maybe Krav or Kali or something.. Honestly though..I would say Muay Thai and running. In most real life situations Ive been in, the keys are quickly hurting or otherwise getting away from attacker(s). Then getting as far away as possible.. |

what do the elite of the military use? [/ QUOTE ] combination of a number of different techniques. ground-fighting, joint manipulation, target areas on the body, weapons of opportunity, weapon disarmament, certain strikes. It's not as complex and "awesome" as people would think, considering it's taught to be effective when you're wearing a combat load. Krav Maga, in its description, sounds badass but is mostly a type of exercise fad in America, unless you know someone who will make it more like how the Israelis teach it. |

if you read some of bruce lee's old self defense books, they mainly consist of attacking the groin, throat, and eyes. |

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
The stuff Bruce Lee did was far from fancy. The whole point of what he did was getting rid of all the fancy stuff and just doing what worked, and tailoring it further to what worked best for each individual.

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
While MMA is awesome to watch, and even more fun to practice, almost anything will work in real-life situations if you know the proper technique. With the proper pressure applied to a nerve in the arm, a 300lb+ MMA fighter is no match for a 100lb girl. Its all in the technique.
Even in MMA there are rules. There are many parts in the body that, when properly "stimulated", have devestating effects on someone. In MMA, these techniques are not allowed. |
Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
If you are being attacked in a fight for your life then screw all the martial arts stuff.
1) Get in close 2) Grab a hold of enemy's ear 3) Pull down really hard 4) Wet willy where ear used to be 5) Profit. |

[/ QUOTE ] Krav Maga is built up in a spooky way, but it's basically karate plus simple techniques from other styles. Which doesn't make it bad, but the spooky "deadlier than deadly" aura built up around it here in America is pretty silly. |

Something with strong take down skills. But really, the goal is to not be in unarmed combat in a war. ldo. [/ QUOTE ] This is true, because if you manage to end up unarmed, the enemy soldier you encounter will most likely have an AK47, and put about 20 rounds in you long before you get close enough to use your Brazilian jujitsu or other martial arts techniques. |
Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
Anything involving kicks and knees to the nuts, eye gouging, and fish hooking.
It's a streetfight. Do what you can to inflict pain on the other guy (assuming they start it) then run. If you're the guy starting it, let's hope you get fish hooked. |

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
Any style that does not include groin kicks, eye-gouging, biting and choking is not properly adapted to a real-life fight for your life. With my life on the line, decency is out the window and I'm killing villain in any way possible.

Re: Best fighting style for real-life situations
In an unarmed situation, i like my style of karate.
We trained American Boxing style with hands, and added all the kicks from typical karate, with huge emphasis on the "power" kick techniques. We also added extensive blocking and redirection training. In the first video link, the guy in yellow is definitely fighting soft. The guy in white is aggressive, but you can see that he's always going for the "home run" shot which is fairly easy to defend. His moves are way too telegraphed; you can see what he's trying to do from a mile away... He's too small and weak and unless he coldcocks you in the head, he's going to lose, and especially a jui-jitsu guy would eat him up. Both guys would probably lose to a jui-jitsu guy. Against either one, I like my odds. SYNOPSIS: For the average Joe to survive in the military, I like the traditional American fighing: boxing and for ground fighting once both guys get tangled up, throw in the Brazilian jui-jitsu choke and submission holds. ( Think Mike Tyson and Rorion Gracie ) On a terrain, in army boots, I doubt anyone will be doing much kicking. You're asking to fall down. Once you've taught these guys these basics, add in the joint locks of Dai To Yu ( Think some of the cooler Steven Segal things ). A friend of mine is the highest American teacher of this style. If he gets a hold of a limb, he can snap it in two with scarey ease. He once demonstrated a simple arm lock on me, and pushed it to the point where I could definitely feel things starting to pop, and he was barely exerting any pressure. But in a street fight, on concrete, I still like my odds against any of these styles; height being equal. Of course, the taller and stronger an opponent, the more difficult to win. But a sidekick to the knee stops just about anyone. |
