LC: Things you do while playing?
 

Ok, everyone is going to say porn so let's get that out of the way.


Anyways, what do you guys do when playing?

I generally listen to music, chat on AIM, and surf 2+2 while 11-12 tabling. The main reason for this is because I get bored and find things to do..

Does anyone have something that is somewhat constructive that they do while playing? I would love if I could find something auditory other than music because that is obv. best for my/your game?

I tried an audiobook once but those don't really work unless you have already read the book because you get lost when you have a big rush or something..

And I obv don't read so I can't read it and then listen to it..plus that is kinda not all that exciting anyways..

Soo anyone do anything that can keep your eyes on the game and actually not get boring as well? Also, just share what you do as well!

Stern/music + baseball games on mute + 5-8 tables

Only music but I try not to get bored by adding tourney tables to the 12 Stars cash tables I got going.

drink mountain dew, listen to rage against the machine and make rude gestures at players saying things like "Yea, get that up ya! [censored] [censored]" when i stack them

Watching TV.
Good program -> Bad poker
Boring program -> Good poker
(I take a break more often if I really want to watch something today)

Whats the secret to this?
Whenever i have tried it, a poker table becomes active and what i type goes into the table chat box rather than AIM.

While playing i like to surf and search for torrents to download overnight.

Pokerstars updated and it fixed the auto typing into stars thing...it still does it some but mostly doesn't

Do you do this simply because you are multi tabling and its not possible to watch how your opponents play?
Would it be more +EV to watch a few of your opponents play (on 1 or 2 tables) and thereby improve your reads on them?

Yes, but I get bored so I do other things instead.

This is why I started this thread, to find things to make me actually just listen to something and keep my eyes focused on tables.

I guess that what i'm getting at is that to play optimal poker you shouldn't be listening to music, watching tv, jerking off (as Renton suggested [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]) etc. You should be concentrating on your opponents.
Its obviously harder but its more +EV in my book.

I also to as you TheProdigy; surf the web, chat on AIM/MSN/IRC, listen to music. Also for the same reason, I get bored.

I've gotten better at staying focused at the tables, but it usually goes something like this:
First ~15-20 mins to get all tables running: Poker+other
30 min of focused playing
30 min of poker + other
30 min of poker ... etc
My concentration goes up and down.

I take the same approach usually. Its impossible to concentrate fully for hours on end. So i do it in bursts. Concentrate for half hour, drift to other things for 10/15 mins, then concentrate for another half hour, rinse repeat.

I only follow the game, but I'm new to poker so its a bit different for me of course, although I still loose my focus often.

I would warmly recommend courses from The Teaching Company (http://www.teach12.com/ ) They have university lectures from selected professors, I have learned a lot from them and for the most part they are very easy to listen too. I use them for instance when I'm out walking, or on my bike. They should be fine even though you might miss a few things when the poker game distracts you [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
