Dear Jack Cust

You are not of this earth. I was giddy that the fortune of the Detroit Tigers might have turned their entire season around by coming back from an 8-1 deficit in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 9-8 in a game they sorely needed. But a hit batsman and two walks later, you hit a towering shot over one of the deepest center field walls in major league baseball, and crushed all hope I had of the Tigers turning things around. I know they're going to be 5+ games out of the playoffs in a week, and you're to blame. There's no way this team has the guts (or the pitching) to bounce back from that slam.

So, in conclusion, you just unofficially ended the 2007 season for the Detroit Tigers. Like a lightning bolt from the heavens, your glorious slam smited all of our hopes in dreams. Maggs giveth, and Cust taketh away.

KK,

After he showers and logs onto the forums you may hear from Jack himself as he posts here regularly!

Like many other SABRs, Cust has sort of been my man-crush for the better part of this decade, and it's so fitting to see him finally mashing as a member of the A's. I hope to be in attendance when he hits his 1000th career homer next July.

If you look closely, Jack Cust actually keeps his eyes closed until he hears the ball come off the pitcher's fingertips.

Question: With the bases loaded and one out in a one run game and Cust at the plate, (like tonight) the sabermetrically correct play was to walk him, right?

Re: Dear Jack Cust

actually the correct play is to forfeit. he's going to hit a home run no matter what you do, so it's best avoid the whiplash your pitcher might suffer trying to follow the ball leaving the state.

Depending on how many cars I buy today, I might pick myself up one these.

A custom made green one would be better, but it's about $180.

Question: How many home runs will Cust hit next season?
or: What will Cust's BA be next season?

Re: Dear Jack Cust

was watching a mets game against the As earlier this year, they said Custs dad said if you wanna make it to the majors u might as well just use a wooden bat always. so cust never used an aluminum bat ever. Then he drilled holes in a wood bat and filled it with lead to make the bat super heavy cuz hes just a monster like that. as a result he was hitting bombs by high school

Holy [censored]. Go ahead and throw that one in the "random shocking stats" thread. I knew the kid struck out a lot, but wow. Over 40% of the time? He makes Adam Dunn look like George Brett.

Dear Jack Cust,

SWING HARDER!

Fun fact: The MLB record for strikeout % is Melvin Nieves, with 43.7% in 1997. Cust has a real chance at this, I think.

Who effing cares? For a team like the A's with a decent OBP and suck power, the last thing we need is another GIDP hitter.

Re: Dear Jack Cust

also, keep in mind that with all crazy numbers he racks up, cust also secretly intentionally pads his stats downward to avoid drawing too much attention to himself. subtle things like being 0-3 lifetime stealing, etc.
