Hilton Las Vegas - Hilton no more?

I just saw this quote from the Las Vegas Review Journal. Does this mean the Hilton's right to the name expires next year?

[ QUOTE ]
The $18.5 billion buyout of the Hilton Hotels Corp. by the Blackstone Group does not affect the Las Vegas Hilton, which is owned by a joint-venture partnership led by Los Angeles-based Colony Capital.

Colony Capital signed a licensing agreement to continue using the Hilton brand until 2008.

It seems that Paris Hilton has so sullied the Hilton brand name that they will now be known as the Barry Bonds Hotel chain.

Does anyone really care about the Hilton? I know I don't. Last time I was there was 1987 for the two Tyson title fights.

The modern day poker rule book which is used by most Vegas casinos was created for the Hilton, its till called the "Hilton rulebook" to this day.

This is a standard thing in franchising; Strictly means that his operating agreement is expiring and a new deal needs to be struck. That being said, it is possible they could go with a different operator...but highly unlikely.

IIRC, I read a few years back when the LVH was sold that this was the agreement.

That sign originally was much taller, then a big wind storm
knocked about 100 feet off the top and they just fixed it up at its current shorter height.

We stayed at the Hilton last year because that's where my GF's convention was.
Man what a boring place that is.

But for women who prefer to go topless, pools at the Wynn Las Vegas, Stratosphere, Manadalay Bay, The Mirage, the Flamingo and Caesars Palace still offer the European experience.

I prefer this part of the article. I had no idea so many women were going topless at Vegas pools. Is this true?

There are a number of hotels that are not actually owned by Hilton that are marketed as Hiltons. Colony Capital has to pay a fee to Hilton for the use of the name as well as the use of their reservation systems. The Atlantic City Hilton is also operated under a similar system.

A few years ago, Park Place owned Caesar's, Paris, Bally's, Flamingo and the Hilton. They had a marketing deal with Hilton for all of those properties, which was cool because I've got high status with Hilton and used to get comped to suites at Paris every time I stayed there. They sold the Hilton to the current owners and ended their deal with Hilton for the other properties at about the same time (2003). No one knows if Colony will extend the deal with Hilton when it expires, but the rumor is that they will.

More than that. At one time the Hilton corporation owned all those casinos. But as is the way of corporate America, they spun those off into a separate company (Park Place, as you mentioned), and took it public. That eventually got swallowed up by Harrah's.

As some point the LV Hilton got sold off. I forgot if that was before or after the Harrah's buyout. The didn't think it could compete with the major strip properties.
