live poker/online poker

Just wanted to no some of your views about the difference's between live and online poker. There are obvious differences but i cant understand how some player's like daniel negreanu can suck at online poker (which he even admitted in his blog) but be one of the best live!!!

to my point i can play good live poker with decent success in various tourny's/cash games....... how ever with online play its totally different. I find tht even tho i have been losing money online i go back to it due to the amount of money that can be won in a single session online which i suppose wiht hinesight its a really dumb thing to do.

I would just like to see some peoples views on, online poker and live poker! an if there is anyway of converting decent live play to decent online play??

There are the obvious differences such as getting over around 750 hands/hr online compared to 25-35 live, then there is the fact that with online play you have to make generalizations.

With online play, you almost always get it in with a boat/set and a lot of hands just because it's that much harder to narrow your opponent's range. However when you sit at a table with someone for hours, and really get a feel for their play it's possible to fold hands such as the 2nd nuts, correctly.

Could it be that the aggression level is much higher online?

This is harder to say, because the upswings and subsequent downswings are just that much more pronounced live.

PT/PAHUD ftw? these programs offer much more insight about a player's style than you can get in many hours of live play.

Online poker is rigged and live poker is not rigged. That is the main difference between the two.

online is much harder because aswell as playing against real people there are also poker bots and being able to tell the difference is an important skill not required live. people using pattern mappers are another peril particular to online play

Its much easier to lie to yourself about how much you are up or down in live poker. In online poker there is the cashiers box and if u deposited 600 and now it says 0..... it becomes very tricky to tell yourself your "about even".

people who act like they are awesome at live poker and suck at online poker are donks. The same concepts apply to both. If you are good at one you should be good at the other.

Just do whatever floats your boat. Some people like playing live casinos better and some like the online arena. Just do what you like the best and you'll probably come out on top..

The biggest difference is that online play requires a computer.

I'd disagree with that. I'm not a "Great" live player by any means, at all, but I am a winning live player. I keep a log of every session I play, so I'm not just lying to myself. But online, I'm a losing player. Why? I don't know, for some reason, I found myself going on tilt when I played online - something that I don't do much playing live. I don't know if it's because there is no one to talk to when you play online, or the fact that I felt like I was losing my money to internet dorks, but something puts me on tilt. Actually, even when I was winning online, I'd still be grumpy after I stopped playing. Whereas live play, I'm happy and relaxed, I enjoy it.

a decent possibility is that your skill level is enough to beat the average live game but not online one...just a thought

err, no, I'm talking about tilting. Online, I'm grumpy even when winning. Live, I'm not even when losing. When I lose online I tilt a lot, when I lose live, I don't tilt at all. I also didn't find the games to be any harder playing 1/2 online than I did playing 1/2 at the Taj Mahal. Play tight and all the bad players will still donate.

tis' a horse of a different color. Online you may get 2-9 outtered on the river 10 big pot within 15 minutes, whereas online this process would take a couple days.

= mucho tilto

online your +ev comes mostly from small edge to other players at the table. Live your +ev comes from rich fishes.
