Well, if you took the time to read the Imod link you'd know, but I'm sure you're busy watching Jenna Haze.... work. (me too it's ok)
Basically I bought a new Ipod. It's my 5th Ipod in 2 years, and I've never owned an MP3 player before this. I sold most of them and broke one. They're a decent product. They sound like those really nasty protein farts that hurt coming out. So. You could buy an older Ipod and let RedWineAudio "imod" it. They just came out with an Imod for the 5th gen so obviously I bought it.(today) --- Even if you use the very best iPod cable with your stock iPod, you are still not avoiding the serious degradation of sound quality that occurs after the internal DAC. This degradation from the cumulative effects of the following stock components that are directly in the line-out signal path and that were NOT optimized for audiophile use: * The low quality stock SMT coupling caps after the internal Wolfson (before the stock opamp) * Opamp output stage * The low quality stock SMT coupling caps after the opamp output stage * The minuscule circuit board traces that carries the analog line-out signal * SMD resistors and inductors directly in the signal path * The signal path inside the stock iPod dock, which contains: the dock connector plug, a very cheap ribbon cable, more minuscule pcb traces, SMD resistors, and finally the line out jack. iMod Details The goal of the Red Wine iMod is to significantly minimize the analog signal path that follows the output of the internal Wolfson Microelectronics DAC chip. iMod for 5th Generation iPods (all 5G/5.5G models) NEW! We take the analog output (line out) signal off of the Wolfson DAC chip and sent it directly to the dock connector pins. This completely bypasses all the components listed above that degrade the sound quality of the line-out of the Wolfson DAC. However, unlike the 4th Generation iMod, we are not able to fit the high-end Black Gate Non-Polorized NX-Hi-Q coupling capacitors inside of the5G/5.5G models. Luckily, we found a solution! We have teamed up with ALO Audio, a highly-regarded cable manufacturer, to introduce the iMod Dock Cable. ALO has found a way to install the capacitors in the dock plug of the cable itself, thus it is required for use with the new iMod. You must purchase the cable separately from ALO Audio's website. ------- Basically they cut all the crap out of the Ipod and give you a good clean signal, and they cut out the [censored] internal amp used in them. So you need an Amp which is what step four is. This would be like trading in your Sony boombox for a good cd player and a good receiver. Now to connect them you need step 3 which in this particular case is pretty special because it has some blah blah blah stuff built in. Basically I'm about to own one of the best sounding portable setups possible. |

why dont you just attach a car battery to it and drop that S.O.B. in a motorized cart you could just wheel up to the table? that would look so cool! and by cool, i mean gay |

Those shure earphones are sick. Good job getting CD's and not dealing with ghey low-quality iTunes music. Although they do have a bunch of new 1.29$ songs that are higher quality.

My dad subscribes to Audiophile magazine and has a jillion dollar set of speakers. I have had a lot of ear training as a classical and jazz musician so I can hear a significant difference between that system and your $300 set of speakers from Best Buy. But I still cannot tell the difference between a performance of Brahms' 4th on a top-notch system that costs a jillion dollars and a 2nd-tier system that costs half a jillion dollars that most audophiles wouldn't be caught dead listening to.
In sum, audiophiles are annoying. |
