sigh, yves

link

without reading the whole thing, i saw in this thread the "suspected" yves account

1) posting a picture of a monkey in a thread HE started called "please post all lebron james pics in here

2) and this lovely quote "look how stupid u are, u think i would suck up to a mod, u have no idea who i am haha"

for me, because it's yves, i think this is the end of the line for that account.

but i'm just the substitute teacher here, and i don't want to go permabanning people without discussion.

confirmed yves sighting again

link

I told him if he wants to retard up msnl that is fine but please to be staying out of bbv/bbv4l. That seems ok with him so I am fine with looking the other way at this point.

I guess you can call it an 'unofficial exile' for now because Ryan has said he's not going to do software exiles from bbv, but it doesn't look like yves is going away...ever. And I am getting tired of the whole issue.

He can be msnl's problem now.

Re: sigh, yves

I know very little about Yves except that he is close in real life with a few of my friends like Vanessa, Prevaricator, etc. Have any of you talked with Yves directly, or one of his friends that you happen to be close with to see if you can reason with him? Everyone says he is the coolest guy in real life, if he is really that cool then surly he must be able to come to a reasonable middle ground if he gets some outside input? He is looking for attention, maybe we should give him some?

of course I could also be wrong... but all could work out just fine with a simple phone call to make amends. This worked with Dan Bright, didnt it?

TT,

My impression is that people love Yves for exactly the reasons that make him so consistantly banned. Fun guy, but horrible fit for a moderated message board run by a publishing company.

I am told the same, that his online persona is NOTHING like him IRL.

Re: sigh, yves

His online persona was not always that way. Back when I regged he was a very solid strategy poster and didn't make any waves outside of what was SSNL/MSNL. Obviously, college or something else has changed him. Ed, have you asked any of those guys to just talk to him and try to get him to at least attempt to reform?

Um, wasn't this the dude who had pics posted of him doing lines of coke off a naked whore or something?

If so, seems like his RL persona matches his online one perfectly!

bingo

he is v funny but basically his style of funniness (HEY LET'S BUMP EVERY THREAD EVER MADE BY THIS GUY and LET'S SEE HOW CLOSE I CAN GET TO SAYING THE WORD N***ER IN EVERY THREAD WITHOUT GETTING BANNED) makes it v difficult to control the masses effectively.

El d,

I am told he is acutally pretty smart and sane and normal, outside of that incident, which was in part contrived by his online persona.

42it,

I tried talking to Baluga about it once or twice, but its hte summer and hence they arent really in contact. Once school starts again I can try again.

Ed - we obviously hear the same about Yves - which makes me think that reaching out to him might be the best solution so Gild doesn't have to deal with his shenanigans anymore. Lets try to make a short list of people who can help reach Yves, intermediary friends of his who we trust, who can arrange a phone call with one of us (Ryan?) to help break down the walls of miscommunication. Gild needs help here, as a team if we try I think we can reign Yves in.

citanul 08-02-2007 09:09 AM

Re: sigh, yves

Honestly guys, Yves' behavior off of these boards is totally unimportant. If/when someone "reaches out" to him (though to my knowledge he's been contacted by basically all the mods in level headed, concise manners), he's going to be told exactly what he's been told countless times - that he needs to shape up or ship out. He obviously gets that message and doesn't care because he knows there's no effective way of making sure he doesn't come back. He wants the attention, he can get attention, and there's virtually nothing we can do about it. Whenever the accounts become clearly yves, we can nuke them, and that's about it.

That said, I'm all for trying to talk some sense in to him, because fewer headaches long run is better. I just don't think that will be the end result.

I'm also certain there's a group of mods that have Yves' AIM contact info, and to my knowledge, which is sparse, he spends time in one of the 2p2 chat rooms, I think MSNL, so one could contact him initially that way.

someone gave him a custom title of yves saint?????? Thats a bad decision IMHO, it only encourages the situation as well as others to follow in his footsteps.

Re: sigh, yves

I'm sorry, i forgot to note that. TT, I gave him that title so Gild/Adanthar could ban him, although Adanthar basically gave him a pass when I pointed it out. Admittedly I was pissed because I was life tilting, posted hands where I was tilting hard, and Yves rubbed it in in his first post so I did my best to out him. I don't know why Adanthar didnt immediately ban him even when 'stay vein' responded when I called him yves.

Also, imo it is totally irrelevant what he does outside of 2p2. We are not RL policeman and our interests are only regarding behaviour on the 2p2 boards (and even then, only the interests within our subforums). I don't really care what he does outside of 2p2 or what he's like irl; his only relevant actions are how he acts on 2p2.

Dan Bright is different...he has actually apologized and recognized that his behaviour was unacceptable, which is something yves never has and probably never will do. Dan Bright is also not a problem at ALL anymore in bbv, not even close to a problem. Every time yves comes back he is always a huge problem.

Ryan Beal 08-03-2007 10:37 AM

Re: sigh, yves

I think you guys made this way too complicated. If he's banned from BBV, he's banned from 2+2.

From what I've read and seen everyone should consider him ban on sight now. I'll block the IP.

Although it doesn't matter now that the ban on sight status has been added, the goal was to get Yves to recognize his behavior was unacceptable through real world channels since we couldn't reach him through online, of course the ultimate goal was an apology like Dan's. Oh well, it was worth trying.... Yves hung himself each time he was given the rope though

Re: sigh, yves

ryan,

we're not allowed to do "ban from bbv" and we wanted him to post in strat, where he historically has been an OK poster. so "we" gave him a shot (the 10th or so) to do good, and he pooped on us. i don't think it's fair to say we made it more complicated than it has to be, since we're in general not supposed to be removing good strat posters for being meh to bad at off topic forums, and the admins have said we can't block people just from bbv forums. in fact, "we" tried to make it as simple as possible, without doing anything silly to a decent strat poster.

meh on the whole thing, i've never even thought his strategy posts were that good, so whatever. i'm just saying that "we tried to let the guy have an account and post strategy without being in bbv or 'outing himself'" i don't think was complicated or dumb in any way, and, if yves wasn't such a [censored] douchebag, it would have worked out fine and everyone would be happy.

on top of never thinking he's been that good at strategy or poker or whatever, he's obviously just way too stupid/racist/whatever to play nice, so whatever, [censored] him.

Ryan Beal 08-03-2007 02:54 PM

Re: sigh, yves

Making it as simple as possible for me is this:

If you do something bad enough to get banned in BBV, you don't get to keep the privilege of posting in other forums.

BBV allows more than any other forum on 2+2. That's fine. But when a poster proves they can't follow rules there it tells me they shouldn't be on the site at all. People shouldn't see being a good strat poster as a pass to do whatever they want.

BBV is obviously not OOT, and I don't think they should become closer by allowing exiles. Also, BBV is still meant to be for anyone who wants to whine about gambling. I don't see it as an OT forum.

BBV4Life is different, but I still prefer the choice we give people by not allowing exiles there.

nation 08-03-2007 05:37 PM

Re: sigh, yves

Adanthar,

Why didn't you take any action on Yves when I pointed it out? You said you wanted proof or something, but he responded several times when I addressed him as Yves. I thought at the time he wasn't supposed to post in BBV at all?

Big_Jim 08-03-2007 06:37 PM

Re: sigh, yves

Honestly, he hasn't even been contributing to MSNL at all since he came back, so I don't even really want him back, anymore.

Apparently, being a troll is more important to him than keeping his bridges unburned.
