How much $$ do you need in your bankroll to play .25/.50?
 

A friend and I were discussing this and I was just wondering what you guys would suggest for .25/.50NL tables

Sounds about right, I keep $1000 and am a .10-.25 regular.

You can get away with less if you are a solid player, if not I suggest starting lower and working up.

Most guidelines I've seen are in the range of 20-30 maximum buyins, which probably works out to $1000-$1500 depending where you play. Keep in mind, that's a general guideline, and also a minimum. There's nothing wrong with having more, especially if you play a loose style that's likely to produce bigger swings in your bankroll.

1000-1600, if you hit 1600 you can take a shot at nl 100, if you lose the move back down and start grind again.

I'd start playing 50nl at 2k. but then again im so tight with my bankroll

if you are decent, 20BI's is fine to start with, then drop down if you go below 15 or so

I like the number 22700. However, this has nothing to do with bankroll management, and neither do most of the fixed numbers of buy-ins people mention in discussions like this.

As Stigen points out, the bankroll you need depends on your win rate. The risk of ruin figures assume you would never change levels or withdraw money, but they are a good guideline.

As SmokeyRidesAgain points out, NL $50 is relatively soft. For some people, it is easy to win at a substantial rate, much higher than what is sustainable in tougher games. This decreases the size of downswings, and decreases the bankroll you need to achieve a low risk of ruin. Don't apply the number of buy-ins you hear someone talk about for NL $1000. If NL $50 is very hard for you, though, you need a larger bankroll to be safe. If you aren't beating the game (which takes play significantly above average), then you need a budget not a bankroll, as you will burn through any amount eventually.

so, i play 25NL .1/.25 with 200 bankroll
is that too dangerous?
i usually play 2 table, and if there is table general big pots, i'll play 3.
so far, in 6000hand. 0.54/bb100, not making much. but make money on RB.......
i don't really want to play 10NL because i'm not a lucky guy, i will have best hand on the flop and usually 2nd best hand on the river....
10NL with 16000 hand, 0.11/BB100
winrate at SD in 10NL is 54%
in 25NL is 56%
win with out SD in 10NL is 20%
in 25NL is 62%
PT rate me TAA at the start, now i'm TAP
should i went back down to 10NL or stay at 25NL. i did much better at 25NL

I'm waiting until I have $1750 before I play $50 NL. I always increase my BR requirements by 5 before I move up.

When I hit $1650 last month, I went on a big downswing and now I'm back to $1500. If that happened to me at $50 NL I'd only have $1200 and that would tilt me.

If you can go through an ugly downswing without really hurting your bankroll or your game, then that is good. Bankroll requirements should be different for everybody.

If u break it down, to play any no limit game comfortably you want to buy in for 100x(BB+SB). so in your case
100x(.50=.25)= $75. But keep in mind u want your bank roll around 20 buy in's. So thats why your lookin at $1,500! Crazy to think about when your average player walks in to a live 2/5 at a casino with there whole bank roll. That means they are already over matched.

comfort = bankroll * win rate / standard deviation ^ 2.

Most people are happy with a comfort level between 2 and 4. If your standard deviation is 80 big blinds per 100 hands, then to have a comfort level of 2 (aggressive) with a bankroll of $200 = 800 big blinds, you need a win rate of 16 big blinds per 100 hands, or 8 PTBB/100. That's quite doable...

However, it appears that you aren't winning at a solid rate. It's not even clear whether you are beating the game. So, for you, $200 is not a safe bankroll level.

If you would have no trouble reloading, $200 might be ok to have as your balance.

You are ahead less than one buy-in after 16,000 hands? This suggests that you really ought to work on your game. The casual players at NL $10 are not very attached to their money. You should be taking a lot more of it. Worry about a bankroll only after you establish that you are a winning player.

By the way, you can add the rakeback to your win rate in the bankroll calculations.
