I've just switched my MP3 player to Silverchair.
The new song is alright. Their first album was pretty damn good and a couple good songs on the second. |

Re: Silverchair
people still listen to this band?

Re: Silverchair
[ QUOTE ]
people still listen to this band? [/ QUOTE ] 1) They just came out with a new album 2) Their last album was in 2002 So, only someone really hardcore is "still listening" to them after a 5 year hiatus, but some people may be coming back to listening to them. I personally only have their 1st two albums in MP3 and probably give them a listen once or twice a year when I stumble upon it in my collection. It reminds me of high school and all the music I love from the 90's. |

people still listen to this band? [/ QUOTE ] this is exactly what i thought. i just checked and have 3 songs on my ipod: tomorrow, pure massacre, and suicidal dream. other than that i kind of forgot they ever existed. |

Re: Silverchair
Silverchair is interesting. In the early '90s when they were 14 years old, they were a crappy grunge band with one hit.
Then they went away and came back with two pretty kick-ass records, and Daniel Johns has turned himself into an electrifying rock star. He's young, handsome, extremely talented, and charismatic as hell. (And the lucky bastard married Natalie Imbruglia). He did a side project called The Dissociatives that is the best thing he's created, and the recent incarnation of Silverchair is a completely different band -- good ol' rock and roll with an experimental side, and they deserve to have a totally new reputation. |

Re: Silverchair
Went to a local festival headlined by Tragically Hip (legends in Canada), Sheryl Crow, and Los Lobos about 10 years ago.
Two of the "preliminary" acts were Wilco and Silverchair. LOL Had never heard of either of them at that point, and was blown away by both. (Silverchair more than Wilco) |
Re: Silverchair
If you listen to the Chair's album before this new one, "Diorama", some of the songwriting is pretty amazing. They aren't a junky alternative band. Their new music is not for everyone but Daniel Johns has got bucketfulls of talent. The guy that did all the instrumentation on the Beach Boys album worked on Diorama (Dick Van Dyke) and really rated Daniel as a songwriter.

You gonna wait too, fat boy, Fat boy, wait til tomorrow, You gonna wait too, fat boy, Fat boy, wait til tomorrow, [/ QUOTE ] I always thought the lyrics were "Black boy". Man I really suck at lyrics. I thought Tuq's joke was funny because it was, like, the complete opposite of the pigmentally-challenged Dids. |
Re: Silverchair
Diorama and Neon Ballroom were both pretty good.
|
Re: Silverchair
I just got back. They didn't play a single song from Frogstomp and they didn't play Anthem For the Year 2000. wtf.
The 9:30 is a great venue tho. |

[ QUOTE ] The 9:30 is a great venue [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I had a great time today worrying some coworkers who were going about parking too far away, just be careful, etc etc. By the end of the day the "see you tomorrow...i hope!" jokes were said with just a tinge of "but no, really" |
Re: Silverchair
Silverchair are still huge in Australia, and they've been kept in focus on Australian radio because Daniel Johns has had a few side projects which were fairly popular.
|
Re: Silverchair
Also I think the first album was good never really listened to the others though you couldn't help but hear them played all the time on the radio.
|
Re: Silverchair
pj: "(And the lucky bastard married Natalie Imbruglia)." OMG. I love her so much.
phb: "Black boy" Me too. |
Re: Silverchair
I saw them at the start of the year at a large music festival - very dissapointing, but I am a much bigger fan of their earlier stuff. Of course they are too pretentious now to lower themselves to playing some crowd-pleasing old favourites so most of the festival crowd went home feeling like they didnt get their moneys worth. Their new stuff just leaves me cold, and evidently I am not alone.
|
Re: Silverchair
Awesome. I used to love Silverchair, last I had heard they were pretty much done and I hadn't heard anything about this album coming out.
Now to go find it. |
Re: Silverchair
How could they play nothing from Frogstomp? Were people upset after?
Also, The 9:30 is a great venue |

How could they play nothing from Frogstomp? Were people upset after? Also, The 9:30 is a great venue [/ QUOTE ] As with basically all Australians who achieve any sort of international recognition, silverchair are portrayed as creative geniuses in the AU media - especially Daniel Johns who has been through public bouts of anorexia, agoraphobia, etc. Nowadays he is basically considered a slightly insane but charming ruffian with a Kurt Cobain past who maybe takes himself too seriously but is a pretty talented and decent dude. Really though, aside from mainstream media most silverchair fans in AU nowadays are fat chicks and 30-40 year old men, people who were into Frogstomp all those years ago are long gone. Random Daniel Johns story - One night I was in Sydney on a holiday and was having dinner/drinking in a pretty trendy vegan restaraunt, I was pretty trashed at the time when in walks Daniel with Natalie Imbruglia... I have never been a fan but he is one of the biggest stars in AU so I thought it was amusing, so I said a little too loudly to the people I was with "OMG check out who just walked in wtf!", Daniel overheard and turned to his gf wincing and shaking his head like "[censored] I KNEW WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME!!". She comforted him and led him over to a table in the corner, I really felt like going up and saying btw man, I'm not even a fan and no-one really cares, sry! |
Re: Silverchair
They're playing this friday at Roseland in NYC i believe.
But the Old 97's are in town! |
