Philadelphia Home Game

First post here so pardon me if I breach an etiquette rule. I'm trying to gather some momentum for my home game in Center City Philly. This game's being going for about a month. I have about 4-5 regular serious players with 8 more that are completely unreliable. I'm looking to phase out these unreliable people and get about 5 more players that are serious about the game and really want to learn about poker and improve their games.

The game is non-rotating and I have a nice table, chips, adequate chairs, etc. Right now, I'm interested strictly in no-limit hold 'em. We'd be willing to play at either $.10-$.20 ($20 Max) or $.25-$50 ($50 Max) blinds for cash games and also play an occasional $10 or $20 buy in tourney. We've been playing every other Thursday, but every Thursday is not out of the question.

I'm not sure how to communicate directly with people on 2 + 2, but if you're interested and you know, holla.

BigNads- I have a weekly Tuesday night game that I run in Center City, .25/.50 NL hold 'em.

I'd be down for your game as I'm sure some of the people at my own game would be.

Do you have AIM?

Hey, what part of center city, and what time of day do you play? I mostly play online but I would be very interested in a live game, preferably the .10/.20 game or the tournies. I'm always looking to improve, and I think this would be a good chance for me to meet new people, improve my live play, and just learn in general.

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

just throwing this out there.

if there is a PM or AIM interest list going for your (or anyone else's) philly home game with dates/times etc... i'd like to be on that list.

I live in manayunk and would be into joining a regular cash home game. any stakes 0.5/1 and below are fine.

i sometimes get a game together with friends but the #s are low and its just for fun. for example, last night we had a little 0.05/0.1c PLO game going (2 pots over $40).

*** Taso, i sent you a PM... just wondering if you got it.

cheers
buck

Give us a trip report if you can get this started up.

And post here regardless.

buck, I added you to my buddy list back when you first PM'd me, havn't seen you online though? I'm basically always on, whether there or with an away message, so give me a shout sometime. My game won't be starting until the fall, I'm in NY for the summer, and from what I understand, my brother has not taken on the responsibility of running the game in my absence :P but IM me anyways just so I don't forget to call you in the fall.

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

well, alright....

Saturday September 1st 6PM- cash .5/1 -will have NLHE for sure, some players have expressed interest in a mixed game, if we have enough interested at a 2nd table then Ill do that. I refuse to have wild card and crazy games like guts and baseball, so the mixed game if it occurs will be HORSE games only.

No rake. I have copaq cards, chips marked with the denominations and tables. I also have a kegerator but I wont serve underaged players and 18 and over only to play. PM if interested.

Depending on the limits, I might be interested in the HORSE. I can probably find you some of my players for either game, if you'd want them.

When you're more locked in for that Saturday game, let me know what you need and I'll see what I can do (and if I can make it myself)

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

Sorry, bunch of regulars showed up so only had room for one 2+2'r, despite interest from 3.

I discovered that having 10 people at a home game is difficult... with that many, people tend to get distracted and not focus on the game. This results in such annoyances as horrible play, people acting out of turn, people not paying attention when it's their turn to act, people having loud conversations when they are out of a hand, but someone else is and is in the tank, etc.

I think 7-8 is the magic number for a typical home game. With that many, there are usually enough people involved in the hand to keep the rest of the people respectful.

Can anyone comment on larger or multitable home games and how they kept things in order?

Invite players who are competitive with each other. My home tournies are almost always multitable and they run rather smoothly because when it comes to the game we all treat it fairly seriously.

(except that one time a drunk guy showed and almost ruined the game- at elast we got his money)

in a game like this with 9-10 people it is wise to have/hire someone to deal and keep the game running smoothly and have the dealer do the reminding

Hire a dealer? That would crush my profit margin... maybe I'll teach my girlfriend to deal and have her do it in exchange for hanging out with her mother.

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

Nah all you need is one or two table captains that keep the action moving- theyre annoying but they do get the job done.

There's a group of us that usually run a 1/2nl game out of Penn's campus, and I know of a few other local games and a suburban club that usually runs 2/5nl. PM me for details.

and yet, a PM would have been much better.

In the future, rook, don't post those kinds of details, even in a semi-safe state such as ours

I'm going to be at this game and I think it's set for 1/2. I think that should be alright, it will be a fun time out to play some games that most people don't usually get to play live(razz for one).

Hope you come

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

I thought 1/2 horse is what we agreed on- did I miss something?

BrianBigNFun 08-31-2007 10:28 PM

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

honestly- if it appears 1/2 isnt high enough Im sure you could all agree to raise to 2/4 if you want-

let people get their feet wet and such..

pacino 08-31-2007 10:29 PM

Re: Philadelphia Home Game

I hadn't planned on bringing more than 150, you think that's enough with this group if it goes to 2/4?
