OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

List your PR and current max.

PR: 310
Current max: 310

Should have 330 by end of summer.

I have no idea what I could max at right now. My PR is 265 at a bodyweight of 170.

Re: OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

Since I hurt my back I haven't returned to my normal workout, so instead of bench I have been using

http://www.roadrunners-inc.com/HS_Chest_Press.jpg

How does the weight translate? For example, if I am doing 230 lbs. in plates, what % of a flat bench press might that be. I know its not too important for now, but I'd like to know if I'm getting my strength back to where it was.

i can't remember the last time i did a flat barbell bench...been doing db bench for a long time now...and i've never gone for a pr, don't really see a point to it...

I would think 300 is doable for me right now. 295 at the very worst

Wussy question, when do you guys go for your PR - on an off day, at the end or beginning of your workout session? I haven't actively tried to find my PR for anything in awhile since I'm generally familiar with everything I do in my circuits.

Re: OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

Funny benching story. Was in the gym monday and some guys were doing a "chest" workout. Lets just say the benching they were doing would probably be called 8 board pressing with assistance. Really amazing how much you can bench if all you do is bend your arms about 30 degrees!

dethgrind that isn't bad considering your height/weight.

PR - 245 (6 yrs ago)
Current - Probably 205-215

I'm 6'2" 180-185. My focus is on endurance training so poor upper body strength isn't unexpected but it still can be frustrating.

Re: OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

The real question should be "how much can you bench with proper form." The answer to that for most people is about 25% less than whatever they say their max is.

PR 205
Current max 195
Workout = 135x4x8

I have a feeling it's going to keep going down as I'm doing my first ever cut and I'm down 30lbs of fat. Still have another 30lbs to go.

pr = 265 about 3 years ago, i dont use barbell benches anymore because of recurring shoulder problems, my last DB bench set is @ 110 lbs

5' 8". 131 lb.

And I dumbbell bench 80 lb, and that's 80 lb TOTAL The good news is I've been increasing the weight every week.

I have no idea but I'll see if I'm up for it tomorrow. I'll be happy if I can bench my bodyweight 168, 5'9.

Mike Vegas, 5'10 185lbs, lost 30 lbs and still want to lose 30lbs more? what?

Soh, we all have to start somewhere. Keep it up

Re: OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

I just started lifting again after dropping ~85 lbs. I lost the weight by running my ass off and not eating, so I got down to about 145 with hardly any muscle. I started lifting again, could hardly rep out 135. Somehow or another I managed to get to lifting way more than even when I weighed more. I havent maxed yet, but I do 275x2 in my last set. That's after my whole bench workout, so I think 290-300 is pretty doable. I also have really strict form (no arch or anything), and since im not really looking to be a powerlifter I think im doing okay.

UptownExpress 07-19-2007 03:32 AM

Re: OFFICIAL How Much Can You Bench Thread

pr is like 230 or so.

honestly i don't bench any more because i'm not sure why anyone would do it when pushups are almost as effective (until a certain point) and there's not all that risk of injury.

Soh, You're just getting started. Worry about learning the movements, not PRs. Your bench is probably a bit higher using a barbell rather than dumbells if that's encouraging at all. Keep up the good work!

285 best. No idea now due to injuries.

I was once benching next to Chris Hovan, formally of the MN Vikings. Hovan loaded the bar with 415 and did 10 reps without a spotter and it looked about as easy for him as warming up with only the bar.

The strange thing is that, at 215, I dont feel either big, or terribly strong. It's all a contrast I suppose. If I was 180 six months ago, I'd feel gigantic and superman-ish. My last 1RM session was 4 weeks ago, and I haven't lifted much since, due to the WSOP. On the plus side, I'm really close to having abs again, so all is well, and skinny Tex gets much more tail then bulky Tex.

I digress. What I wanted to say is

benching 2x your body weight w/o a shirt is SO [censored] HARD. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO DO THIS FOR YEARS. DAMNIT, I WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
