Poker in Seattle?

Hi all,

I'm going to Seattle to visit my wife's family from Thursday-Monday. Any good poker rooms there? I'd probably only go once if it's worth it, but I'd love the option...

It's funny how often we get these threads...

If you are staying in seattle proper, then basically you can drive 20 minutes north or south to one of our many "mini casinos", or you can drive 1.5ish hours north of south to a full-on tribal casino.

If you tell us where you are staying, what limits you are looking to play, and if you want to go to a small cardroom or a full-on casino, we can probably tell you exactly where to go.

What games do you play? For the best Spread limit games (3-5 or 5-10), either hit muckleshoot or Tulalip. Tulalip is better since you don't have to wait forever to get a seat. Mucklehoot is the worst run poker room i've ever been to

I guess the bottem line is that there are many "mini casinos" up and down I5 and Hwy 99. Most of the players are pretty bad and it is difficult to find stakes higher than 6/12. They are mostly 3/6, 4/8 & 6/12.

Couple things:

I'll be staying about 20 mins south of Seattle the end of Aug. Where are the best places to find a good 1/2 or 2/5 NL game?

Also, what is the legal gambling age in WA?

Re: Poker in Seattle?

No Limit is illegal in WA state. The closest we have is a spread limit up to $500. The tribal casinos have 3/5 and 5/10 which play more or less like NL, except you cannot bet more than $500 at a time.

If you're going to be on the south end, you would probably want to go to the Muckleshoot. As a previous poster pointed out, the Tulalip Casino (north end) has a better 'spread limit' game with more available seating.

Is there anything near Ellensburg?

I understand that the Wild Goose in Ellensburg has a poker room, but I know nothing about it. Based on my experiences with the Moses Lake 'poker scene' I would not set my expectations too high for central/eastern WA poker.

Funny- I say the exact same thing about Tulalip every time I go there. Been awhile now, so they may have improved, but I was NOT impressed.

Muck is run like pretty much any other room I have played in. Some nights things run smoothly, some nights they [censored] things up.

Parker's in shoreline pretty much always has 8/16 and 12/24 (sometimes long waits for the 12 game). Diamond Lil's in renton has 8/16 and 20/40 consistently (no idea about waits).

I like parker's and they actually run a 15-30 or 20-40 sometimes.

Chips in lakewood tacoma area has a juicy 8/16
Well they did 6 months ago before I shipped off

Both Parkers and Diamond Lil's have hideous waits for the bigger games--more than 3 hours, typically.

So parkers is the place to be if I'm looking for 6/12 or higher?

I'm telling you guys, the 2-40 spread at Hollywood/Drift is a lot of fun, and still full of "action"

They are, unfortunately. They also ditched the monte carlo hands and went to high hand payouts instead. I think it's $300 (or $400, i can't remember) every 2.5 hours. The extra drop sucks, but I've been a fan of high hand payouts ever since the hideaway days.

Crane 07-19-2007 05:12 PM

Re: Poker in Seattle?

I played in Seattle recently, and they have the highest "effective" rake of anywhere I've played. $5 per hand (most hands) including a $2 jackpot rake. This is even the case in their bigger games, where in most locations, jackpots and high hands aren't played.

Higher stakes players don't usually want high hands or jackpots, but Seattle seems to be the exception or it's just a case of the house making it mandatory.

What's the point of a $300 high hand every two hours in a 20-40 game? Every hand in that game is a "high hand."

Re: Poker in Seattle?

I thought I'd bump this thread to let the seattle area people know what parker's is planning. Apparently they listened to the complaints of people like Crane.

Starting sep. 1st, they will no longer be dropping for the bad beat in the 12-24 game, so it'll be a $3 effective drop but will not be eligible for bad beat or high hand payouts.

They are also going to start spreading 20-40 again, on friday and saturday nights. This game will also have no BB drop, and they are going to lower the rake to just $2 for the 20 game.

I normally wouldn't try to infest my usual game with 2p2ers, but I'm hoping that the 20 game reaches critical volume to run regularly. As long as nothing scares off the regular parker's donators, there should be plenty to go around.

Re: Poker in Seattle?

Hi Seattle folks; I'll be playing next Thursday night (9/28)in your area. I play mostly spread limit games here in Montana, we have a $300 max pot limit here. My favorite game is a 2-10 game with single $2 blind. I was thinking that the Red Dragon 2-20 might just be the ticket for me. Would I better to try the 2-40 at Drift/Hollywood instead? I'm a bit concerned that a 2-40 may be bit out of my comfort zone for limit. Thoughts????
Thanks for any replies!!

Where are you going to be in Seattle? If North go to Drift/Hollywood if south go to Muck in Auburn. If you want a good game selction go to Tulaliup farther up north. We have a $500 cap per bet here in the state but there is plenty of action. Good luck.

Re: Poker in Seattle?

I ended up playing at the Red Dragon, They only had a single table going or 3-6 and after a long time of urging I got them to change to 2-20 which is why I went to the Red Dragon to begin with. I guess it was a "slow night". I also played 3-6 at Goldies. I was doing okay at 3-6 at the Red Dragon then lost what I was willing to play with in one place on a couple of heart breaker suck outs. At goldies I won about half my lost money back. All in all I had a good time. I did feel I was a bit misled by the folks at the Dragon cause I was told they had a 2-20 game every night. One of the regulars said they only have had a 2-20 game a few times.
