there's a general agreement among pro poker players that Scotty is a super nice guy. i heard of stories where helped out matasow and sexton when they were at their lowest. and continues to help others...
he's chipping up slowly and poised to take it. he needs the score to feed all of this 15 children. |

I bumped into him at Casino Arizona about six months ago and he was super cool. He came around to some of the tables and chatted it up with some of us. It's awesome that he is still in this, along with 2 other world champions. I tried to figure out the odds of 5 champions making it to the top 250 but gave up after running into some huge factorials.
Anyway, good luck to Scotty Nguyen, I hope he makes some history in the next few days. |

Many fans seek out the 1998 WSOP Main Event champion looking for an autograph or a photo, and he can quickly make total strangers feel like friends, referring to everyone as "Baby" -- whether he knows their name or not. Speaking of "baby," Nguyen has one of the greatest quotes in poker history. On the final hand of the 1998 WSOP Main Event, he was heads up against Kevin McBride, and there was a full house showing on the board (eights full of nines). Nguyen moved all in, and while his opponent considered the call, Nguyen taunted him with, "You call, gonna be all over, baby." McBride called, playing the board, and it was all over, baby. Nguyen showed a nine to win the hand -- and the championship -- with a higher full house (nines full of eights). Scotty Nguyen is in this event to win it, baby, and he has eyes for nothing but first place. Everyone seems to be rooting for him, as he is a favorite of fans and fellow pros alike. ESPN's best-case scenario has a famous player with his charisma at the final table. Only four players have won the Main Event more than once -- Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson, and Stu Ungar. Sven Heinecker Eliminated by Stig Tap Rasmussen
Sven Heinecker open-pushed for 258,000 from UTG and Stig Tap Rasmussen called from the big blind. Heinecker turned up 3c, 3d and was in bad shape against Rasmussen's 7h,7s. The flop was 9d,6h,2h. Rasmussen couldn't bear to watch and started pacing away from the table. As the 6d fell on the turn, Scotty Nguyen exclaimed "Oh my God, a three!" and Rasmussen whirled around to see the bad news, only to find that Nguyen was just messing with him. He chopped a bracelet to Elezra? I didn't hear about that. I think the posting about 81 players taking nearly half a million would make a lot of sense, but given high number of Pros left, I don't think it's about the money now. Money is nice, though....
