First trip to Vegas

Hey, I'm an internet newb that's turning 21 next week and I'm making a trip down to Vegas. I'll be staying at the Bellagio Sunday the 22nd through Thursday the 26th.

I'm bringing 6k in cash and am a good limit hold'em player, I have less than 24 hours of live poker experience though. My plan was to play 15 at the Bellagio, and maybe 30 if I'm feeling gambooly. Any other poker rooms/games around that size that I should be checking out? (I won't have a car FWIW.)

Any sights I should be sure to hit within the city limits? What chips are the 15 and 30 played with, red (5) and green (25)?

The 15-30 is played with red $5 chips. The 30-60 is played with blue $10 chips. Both are 2-3 blinds.

Probably the only other rooms consistently spreading limit games around those levels would be Wynn and Mirage.

Seriously? I really have to deal with chips that small? Will people look at me funny if I bring 20$ or 25$ chips into the game?

Otherwise I'd be buying in for like three racks, blah.

Bring more money. Play higher. If u've hit a bad run or something, then i think u'd be fine to start at 30/60. Just drop down if u lose 50 bb. Is the 6k ur spending money too?

Dude, playing with lots of chips = the nutz. Play 8/16 at Wynn, with 2 dollar chips at some point (or really any 4 chip game), so so so much fun.

scary tiger, lol! You are going to have a blast playing live. Lots of people are just there to show off how tough they are with their big stacks of chips and long staring contests.

My advice: bring more than 6k and play as high as you can. If I knew you better I'd offer to take half of you cuz you will probably have 3+ bb/100 edge even in 60/120.

Also, you will probably find that vegas is a bit of a miserable place, particulalry when all ur doing is hanging out around bellagio poker room. Try and get off strip for a while--donk around in a craps game in downtown, go swimming in lake mead, and/or go eat thai food at a local restaurant.

if you brought those chips to the table most likely the first thing that would happen is that the dealer calls for a chip runner to get you the proper chips

and slight hijack, the $10 chips are not blue, their $1 chips are blue

I agree with this 100%. 100-200 live is easy compaired to 30-60 online as long as you can deal with 30 hands / hour and aren't a giant tell box.

You won't just get strange looks, but even vocal complaint from the nits at the table. Last month at the Bellagio they managed to run out of $10 chips at the poker cage (had to get more from the main cage) so the floor gave me 1 rack of blue and offered to get me gree or black chips for the remainder. Two regular guys at the table made a giant stink about not mixing chip denominations at the table, I of course just got my chips anyways, but it was like they were personly offended by it.

$100 bills play though, and its not uncommon for people to use them in addition to the main chip for the game. Seriously though if you want a lot of BB at the table I don't see why you don't want to just buy in for four racks to start a solid base for your inevetable tower of chips. Chips are half the fun of live poker!

I was thinking of the wynn chips.

Too many colors to keep track of, and its even worse since I normally play in CA.

Holy crap you are a newb. Remember to see the sights, go into all the cool casinos (Venetian, Wynn, Mirage, Bellagio, Paris, MGM, NYNY, Caesar's. Eat some good meals, even if you are Bellagio and playing poker order Fix at the table (easier the higher stakes you are playing - get the adult mac and cheese and a steak, thank me later). Take cabs everywhere, drink too much, play at least one table game (texas hold'em bonus is awesome).

Then come to LA and Commerce for a poker only trip.
