Official IwannatalkaboutdaBull 2007/2008 Season Thread

This is a hugely important offesason for Da Bull.

Noccioni a RFA. Gap to fill in the middle.

The draft was ok. Took best player available in Noah. Got some decent fliers in the 2nd round with big man Aaron Gray and sharpshooter JamesOn Curry.

This leaves us with lots of good depth and role players heading into next year, with the obvious need for a scoring low block player.

Clearly Paxson's biggest task this year is to fill that need. He's got a proven track record of quality drafting (Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, Thomas, Sefalosha, Duhon) and now needs to show he can make a quality trade with someone other than Isaiah Thomas.

For those who may have forgotten, 2.5 years ago I had an open wager taking Da Bull to go further in the 2007/2008 playoffs than the team of one's choice, for $100.

The takers all selected the Spurs.

Right now I think I'm in good shape. Da Bull should improve and will have a decent shot at getting to the ECF. Meanwhile the Spurs will have a similar situation to last year in all likelihood, namely a road series against Dallas or PHX to get that far. The bet is really close heading into this year.

Good start to the offseason so far in the draft, time for some good trades/signings.

Kind of weird that nobody went for or even mentioned the Mavericks in that old thread.

jesus christ trade for gasol or garnett and you own the east through the next 4-5 years.

are you guys gonna extend deng this offseason?

IMO he's much better than rashard lewis who just got 5/75.

Deng >> Lewis in the long run. He just turned 22.

I'm a Durant skeptic, but it's hard to think that he doesn't have a higher ceiling than Deng. I'd trade Deng for Durant.

A better way to look at it is which player is the better asset to have. In that regard, it's obviously Deng.

Re: Official IwannatalkaboutdaBull 2007/2008 Season Thread

I think the best case "realistic" scenario is like Deng and a future first for Gasol, provided we re-sign Noccioni. Then we could start Hinrich/Gordon/Tyrus/Gasol/Ben with Noccioni/Noah/Sefalosha as a pretty damn flexible bench. I'd love to keep Deng, but this is the type of deal that really makes Da Bull a legit threat.

That leaves us just as big a hole at guard though.

Gordon will be really awesome when there's an actual post game and he doesn't just have to play super out of control all the time. He's an ungodly 3-pt shooter. Getting a post threat like Gasol who can also pass is a godsend for Ben.

Whenever Memphis talks to Chicago it appears Deng must be a part of this deal. Now that there's a new GM and coach in memphis that might change. I'd be pretty surprised though.

How much would the future first be as counted in salaries? Does it even come in as part of the equasion? I see Deng makes like 3.5 mil but Gasol makes 13.7

I wouldn't worry about salaries. Between Redoing Deng's deal, Noccioni, PJ Brown and other table scraps it can get done.

How do they work that in though? I mean if you trade a player who makes 10 mil a year for a player who makes 5 mil and a first rounder do they count what the avg first rounder makes or do they count anything at all for a pick?

They can renegotiate Deng, include a re-signed and overpaid Noccioni, give PJ Brown a one year present equal to the value they need, include a variety of scrubs or Duhons.

Any word on contract negotiations for Deng and Ben Gordon? A lot of the 2004 draft guys are getting re-upped.

The idiots down in Dallas gave Devin Harris 5/$43.

Gordon is clearly a better player. Is he looking at Kevin Martin type money (5/55?)

Deng is a max guy IMO.

Neither signed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Agreed re Deng, at least long term.

Two bad losses to start the year. Shoulda had the Nets game. This one simply was more of the same with no real post game. Lots of motion and effort, as always, but we just have to work real hard to get good looks right now.

At least Tyrus looked good, and he even got some minutes at center. Ben seemed engaged. Deng seemed out of sorts.

Tupacia 11-02-2007 11:47 PM

Re: Official IwannatalkaboutdaBull 2007/2008 Season Thread

Tyrus looked really good tonight, but it just seems like such a struggle to score points every possession.

It also sucks losing to a 76ers team that doesn't have much talent.

kidcolin 11-02-2007 11:51 PM

Re: Official IwannatalkaboutdaBull 2007/2008 Season Thread

well the Bulls are clearly the more talented team, but people are really sleeping on the 76ers. I'm not saying playoffs or anything, but they're not that bad. They'll probably end up in the 10-12 range and piss off a lot of teams along the way.
