Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

That was covered in Bluff's subject line.

Re: Happy Birthday to the United States (and screw the wannabes and ha

stabn,

ATF regulars are a community, and one composed mostly of americans, which is why I think it is an appropriate place to celebrate the 4th of July. And should any posters who are citizens of other countries wish to make a thread in the future celebrating their independance/national days, I think that would be appropriate as well. For instance, Bastille Day is coming up in 10 days. And while I won't celebrate anything to do with France, I won't begrudge French posters doing so, nor will I feel it necessary to make a negative post in such a thread.

I suspect you are one of those american self-loathers who can't distinguish between the country and the patriotism due it, and the current political administration in charge. If that is true of you, then a short drive northward to establish a new residence and citizenship will solve that dilemma. But if that isn't the case, and since it's not like threads such as this are drowning out what is a quiet forum anyway, you could merely have not chosen to post, especially with subsequent replies.

I'm a proud Canadian, and although I couldn't be bothered to make a thread about Canada Day 3 days ago, I don't begrudge anyone else's desire to make a thread like this.

Is ATF the appropriate place? Meh...maybe not, but I don't much care. Nicely breaks up the threads bashing NT! and the ones made by those nutty Politics posters. If this thread is considered out of line, MH's a big boy...he'll handle it.

Happy 4th, neighbors! I'll be able to enjoy the fireworks in Blaine, WA from my back yard.

Special thanks to our first and most beneficial ally.

Without you we'd give flavor an extra letter and aluminum an extra letter and syllable (or at least it would have taken a lot longer).

I hope the original American flag messes up the small monitors of all the wannabes and haters. Real Americans I'm sure all have appropriately large enough monitors to view her in all her glory.

God Bless America!

British spellings: Flavour, Aluminium. The latter pronounced 'al-you-min-yum'

Isn't it even worse than that, as in 'al-you-min-e-um'?

As a Canadian, I go along with most of those happily - flavour, colour, cheque, zed not zee, etc...but that aluminum thing has always driven me nuts.

Since we've already started derailing this thread, and the Fourth of July is over already for most Americans (I can just hear a few fireworks starting here), I have another totally unrelated question.

Seeing Nath's avatar reminds me...is Nate not free yet? It's bad enough seeing Elway's annoying smirk once in a while, but having to see it all over now...ugh. Even behind bars doesn't help. Please free Nate, I'm tired of Elway's mug!

I may have heard it pronounced with the extra bit (minny-um rather than min-yum) but most here pronounce it the shorter way. Here being southern England, there might be regional variations.

I like all the extra letters in the British spellings. They're fun.

However, saying "shhed-ule" instead of "sked-ule" just sounds dumb.

I was in Amsterdam and then the police had made a roadblock and stopped every car and searched through them, they had even blocked the side streets so it was impossible to escape into the side streets. I got so curious about what they were looking for that I asked the taxi driver and he told me they were looking for fireworks. "Is there maybe some fireworks hidden inside that box labeled Cocaine?
