I can't wrap my head around what kind of degen sicko would play this event.

What makes this an event for degens? Is this a high variance game?

1)It's 5 card draw (one draw) NL, worst hand wins. Straights and flushs count against you, and aces are always high. 2-3-4-5-7 is the best hand
2)It's a rebuy event, so even higher var.

May be getting leveled, but this might be the highest variance poker game ever invented.

Chris Fargis describes limit triple draw as a carnival game, I have never played NL single draw but I imagine it is sickening.

"The Last Preliminary Event

This event should be a lot of fun. An elite field will assemble today at Noon for the $5,000 Deuce to Seven triple draw (with rebuys) event. This is a great format, and the players should be prepared to gamble. We'll see you at Noon to kick things off."

Pokernews says its triple draw. The WSOP site justs says World Championship No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball w/Re-Buys

Itīs single draw NL. Greenstein won that event in ī04, was a fun table to see. Obv with espn it was highly edited but Barry, Jesus, Lederer, Zolotow, Chau and Lyle Berman at the same table sure made for a fun watch.

Cards Back in the Air

The controversy that spurred the 10 minute break is as follows. Berry Johnston bought in late to this event, and as he was seated, he was given a stack of 9,000 chips. Some of the players that had pre-registered for the event and absent were blinded off, and showed up to stacks less than 9,000.

Several players at Berry’s table (most notably Steve Z) refused to keep playing until the issue was resolved. The tournament directors ordered players to complete the hand they were on, and take a 10 minute break, while tournament directors could make a decision.

Td Jimmy Sommerfeld came back quoting TDA rule # 81, which states that if a player registers late, he is penalized a one time chip penalty of up to three rounds of blinds and antes. The decision was made that Berry should be assessed three rounds of blinds and antes, which is 1,800 chips.

Many of the players who pre bought in, but showed up late to their stacks started with significantly less than that. This is going to continue to develop, and we will keep you updated on all related issues."

Re: ** Event 54: $5,000 +rebuys World Champ. NL 2-7 Draw Lowball **

Just to be clear folks...because this whole thing had unfolded really quickly. Its the players who signed up late, but not quite as late as Berry that are at issue...not the preregistered players as I had originally written. I changed the post, but 'twas nabbed before it was changed.

I believe I've seen everything from every WSOP ever broadcast, plus lots and lots of other poker TV, and I think this final table ranks as the most interesting thing I ever saw in that regard. And I don't even play 2-7 Draw.

Favourite moment: when Chau Giang raises an odd amount from UTG (IIRC), and Steve Zolotow just from that can put him on an approximate hand (remember, we're talking *5* hidden cards here). Now, Giang tries to be sneaky and pretend that he placed the wrong size bet by mistake. Lederer then butts in and puts Giang on pretty much his *exact* hand.

Lederer wakes up with a strong hand himself, and opts to play. And from his action, Giang then puts Lederer on *his* exact hand!

It's downright scary to watch.

Lots of other good stuff from that episode aswell, like e.g. seeing Greenstein run over the table with some ballsy big-stack poker.

I believe this episode has never been broadcast, but it was included as extra material on the ESPN DVD(s?) from the 2004 WSOP.

If I could pick *one* event to watch from WSOP 2007, this one would be it. I'd prefer it over the Main Event, HORSE, and the $10k PLO, but sadly it is not part of ESPN's broadcast schedule -- not surprisingly.

Rule 1 of the Poker TDA rules:

[ QUOTE ]
Floor People: Floor people are to consider the best interest of the game and fairness as the top priority in the decision-making process. Unusual circumstances can on occasion dictate that decisions in the interest of fairness take priority over the technical rules.

Seems some of the WSOP tournament staff need to read this one again.

Ban for looking into souls

Bonyadi Takes Another

Farzad Bonyadi, Michael Binger, and Chad Brown were all involved in an interesting hand. Binger made it 6,000 to go and Brown and Bonyadi called. Brown drew one, Binger drew two, and Bonyadi drew one. Brown made it 10,000 to go and Bonyadi made the call after Binger folded. "I paired," Brown announced as he mucked. Bonyadi turned over an ace-high low as he scooped up the chips.

If you look at the pokerdb, it's amazing how succesful the big game guys like Reese, Brunson, Baldwin etc are in this game.

Right now, reese is among the chip leaders, T. Brunson is chip leader, Greenstein is in, Berman, Grey. Is this game the main focus during the big game?

Not the main focus by any means, but it's probably one of the few venues on the planet where this game is played regularly anymore.

Some tourney donks have experienced a lot of success in this event, too (Ferguson, Williams, etc.)

Also, how often is this spread in the big game?

Lisandro Loses Chunk of His Stack

Sean "Sheiky" Sheikhan made it 25,000 to go and Jeffrey Lisandro raised it to 85,000. Sheikhan moved all-in for 142,000 total and Lisandro called. Sheikhan showed a 9 low and Lisandro showed a 10 low. After the hand, Lisandro is down to 209,000 and Sheikhan is up to 290,000.

After the hand, and for the second time this evening, Sheikhan slammed the table and yelled, "YEAH BABY! THAT'S HOW REAL (EXPLETIVE DELETED) DO IT!"

God ESPN coverage is horrible. Pretty much the regular all-in fest, but it is interesting to watch a non-HE game. But, FFS, do they really need to take a quarter of the broadcast to let us know Barry donates his winnings to charity and Ferguson can chop veggies with cards, and have Annie Duke explain how to catch a bluff.

Anyway, you may be able to find it on pokertube later today.
