BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

so im in the process of buying a new car. well not brand new, but new to me.
ive owned an original vw rabbit gti, a heavily modified vw corrado VR6, and now an E36 M3.
i want something with 4 doors, factory turbo, manual tranny, and fun to drive. looking to spend $20-23K. the candidates are below.

heres my current ride:
95 M3

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...P1010009sm.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...P1010013sm.jpg
brag:
- 3.5" maf, big injectors, software, exhaust, coilovers, sways bars etc
- one of teh best handling cars ive driven
- ~230 hp to the wheels
- still one of the hottest looking cars on the road

beat:
-only 230 whp, aftermarket FI start at 8k
-130K miles
-stupid coolant leak/overheating problem that NOBODY can seem to figure out
-2 doors is getting to be a pain
-parts and labor are stupid expensive

variance:
on separate occasions have had a mirror, grill, and side skirt stolen or failed attempt to steal

candidate #1
'03-'05 Subaru STi

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../sti_tein4.jpg
brag:
-rediculously fast
-capable of making huge power
-capable chassis

beat
-fugly. bugeyed, ricer wing

candidate #2
'01-'02 audi S4

http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data...di_S4004sm.jpg
http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data...01CIMG2454.jpg
brag:
-dead sexy looks, "grown up"
-cheapest car of the 3
-comfortable
-300hp is only a chip away
-can make really big power, good after market
-im pretty familair with the VAG aftermarket, have lots of connections/friends with vw's and audi's

beat
-handles like a pig. i'd have to have coilovers ordered before i even bought the car
-sluggish stock, really heavy
-$$$$for parts, $$$$$$for labor, a bitch to work on
-will have way more miles on average than the sti or evo

variance
-completely walked one of these on the highway in the M3. he was prob stock. got spanked by one in the corrado

candidate #3
'03-'05 MitsubishiEvo VIII

http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/1...ishi-evo-8.jpg

brag
- best handling car you can buy for the money. only car of the group that can turn faster lap times completely stock than my M3
- already quick with big aftermarket, cheap and easy to tune with huge potential
- engine has been around for a long time and has proven to be bullet proof
-awesome brakes
-cheap parts/labor compared to my current car

beat
-boy racer looks, ricer wing
-cheap interior

variance
- had a bone stock evo pull away from me by ~2 carlengths in a 65-120mph highway roll on

so what you think?

I think they are all pretty fugly to be honest.. I'd rather get a Lexus if I had to have something with 4 doors

Subaru FTW...blew the doors off an 04 S4 in an 04 STi

#2 - Evo
#3 - S4
#4 - old M3

btw...If you dont like the spoiler on the Sti/Evo, they make really good looking lip spoilers and just smaller wings in general

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

Geez the Evo is so sick. Did you consider an Evo 9? All 3 cars are awesome, but i am partial towards the Evo.

JoeKing 07-01-2007 08:19 PM

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

Wait are you considering a used Evo/STi? ppl tend to drive those really hard and then trade them in.

i think all these cars are pretty plain. try this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_ZX-14
twice as fast as any of those cars, and half the price. 0-60 in 2.4 FTW

ya, most cars that are 3-4 years old have been used. looking for something with under 40K miles, under 60k if its an S4

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

also i dont really need to impress anyone with the car... im 27 and have a long term gf so not like im gonna be picking up highschool chicks cuz they think my car is hot.

howeeeeeeeeeeever, you can clearly see what my taste preferences are by how i modded my current car - clean and understated

which is why this is tough... all out performance but meh looks/comfort with the evo/sti or god comfort/looks but only okish performance with the S4

I hear the factory paint really sucks on the Evo's

Plus insurance really sucks for both the STI and the Evo.

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

Out of your choices, it's the Evo and it's not even close. I've done a ton of research on both the Evo and the STi, and the Evo just has better aftermarket and better handling. The STi is more "family oriented, daily driving" and the Evo is more "A rally car for the street".

I wouldn't pick it though.

I'd buy a Lexus IS300MT, a Porsche Carrera or a BMW M3 E46.

Evo can't be touched for pure performance

What nation said though, late model Legacy GTs are awesome.

'03 - '04 evos go for 20-24K and have anywhere from 30K - 60K miles. a silver '03 one that i test drove yesterday had 55K miles adn the dealership was asking $21,980

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

Mitsu just doesn't seem to have the reliability that the subarus do, however they are cheaper to mod. but adding a good exhaust and engine management to the STi could cost you about $1100 if you get good deals on the stuff, and yeild you about 30hp or better.

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

Evo VIII and it's not even close.

STI is heavy and the EVO handles better & smokes it and looks better

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

evo for the win imo, but looked a bit for what nation said about the subaru legagy gt. damn that's a freaking sexy car with huge power. id look into it if i were you

a decent set of 18" wheels/tires will run $1200-2000. the higher end stuff goes up from there.

Re: BEAT: totally undecided on what my next car will be

I can't imagine ever regretting this purchase, I know everyday I get in my car on the way to work it make sthe day a little easier to get through. Good luck, look up some local AutoX, get out on the track a little, it gives you a great chance to REALLY learn what your car can do.

let me give you some advice, I know it's hard, but wait a year before you start modding it. you'll greatly appreciate the improved performance more, and it will give you ample time to learn what YOU really want for YOUR car.

ohh, and don't be afraid to be nice to us STi guys, we don't hate you, we are all in this together against the crappy civics and the like!
