saddest movie you\'ve ever seen

To hop on the saddest tv show you've seen thread what are the saddest movies you've ever seen? May not be the most popular, but My Dog Skip ranks right up there for me, same reason that Jurassic Bark episode of Futurama gets to me. Everyone had that childhood dog who grew old with us.

Yeah. For me, it's either one of these two or else Schindler's List.

That part in American Beauty when Annette Benning hugs Kevin Spacey's clothes gets me every time.

My girlfriend made me watch Terms of Endearment once, though. That was terribly depressing.

I don't actually think "The Namesake" was that sad of an ending. Good film, and certainly got a little dusty in the theatre at times(and who knew that Kal Penn could like act and stuff?)

The Sweet Hereafter gets my vote

I thought then ending of Castaway was about the saddest thing I've ever seen.

I hated that part so much, I didn't even bother watching the rest of the parts. The Commandment being violated (thou shalt have no Gods before me) isn't even vaguely related to the story of an atheist's kid who falls through the ice. The point was that the scientist trusted his calculations (he calculated that his son wouldn't fall through the ice) more than he trusted God. But you're trusting some scientist's calculations every time you cross a bridge, ride an elevator, or even sit in a chair.

Really? I watched the first half before the DVD died and it was one of those movies where I was thinking "I don't really like this but I hear it's good so I'll force myself to finish it just so I can say I've seen it."

well, no, not as such - but the notion of God was there in the story even without such an obvious connection. I don't think Kieslowski was looking to be so literal or ham-handed. The stories don't necessarily link up 1 with 1 Commandment, either.

I suggest giving the other 9 parts a chance.

It doesn't have "Bambi's mom getting shot" moments, it's just after you are done watching the entire movie you'll sooner or later think about it and be overcome by profound grief.

I'm [censored] tearing up just thinking about it.
