I am leaning towards the Infiniti and will likely test drive all three and purchase one tomorrow, anyone have any horror stories or info on repair costs I should know about any of the 3?

All have about 15-20k miles on them and all are within the same price ballpark as well.

I love the outside of TL's, but I think their leather is so cheap feeling.

Re: Inifniti G35x or Lexus ES330 or Mercedes E Class

Really? I enjoy riding in my friend's TL.

I've been a passenger as well as driven all of the cars except for E-class (although for a short period of time but definitely longer than test drive). I recall you being 23~24 so I wouldn't buy an old E class anyways. The new one looks really really good, though.

G35X: I think this is the best looking car out of them all. My friend just bought a new red one and put a set of new rims on it and I thought it looked great. It's easily the funnest to drive out of them four as well.

ES330: Meh. I like this car but it always gives me the feeling of a girly car. (Maybe this is because all of my friends who drive ES330 are girls in high school). However, from what I've heard it has a long life and doesn't break down and doesn't require high maintenance.

Acura TL: My best friend drives this and I kinda don't like the experience in the backseat. It's spacious but the feeling just isn't great. It is very spacious, though. Many that have driven Acura have told me that the driver seat isn't all that comfy either.

E-class: Benz is a really good brand but it just seems so...fatherly.

Conclusion: I am going to agree with ZBT and advocate G35. Have you considered a brand new Prius? Environment matters!

Re: Inifniti G35x or Lexus ES330 or Mercedes E Class

I'll be more detailed:

The E-Class looks like something a soccer mom would drive. It's not that fast, or sporty, and your in your early 20's like me. So it just doesn't feel right. Also, it's German, so it is fairly reliable..but if something does go wrong the repair is going to be very expensive.

I like a lot of Lexus vehicles, and obviously they are very reliable. I don't like this one though. The newest body styles of ES and GS are very sporty, but your going to pay a high price for that. I still also think they are mainly made for a higher age bracket.

The G35 is exactly what I think a pro poker player our age should be driving(which is why I have one). They have a 50K warranty, so your probably going to be covered for a while. Its faster than you think it is, and best of all, it's AWD and you live in Boston.

The TL is a really nice car, and in no way want to say otherwise. Some people may really like the interior, but for some reason it bothers me. When I get out of a Nissan, and into an Infiniti, I feel a class difference. For whatever reason, I feel like Acura's are Honda's. The leather feels exactly the same. *shrug*

I'm very happy with my TL, and feel that the TL is the best value compared to the others. With that being said I just test drove the new redesigned 2007 G35 and would chose that over my car pretty easily. Although I have no experience with the pre 2007 g35's.

If you want a transportation appliance that gets you here and there and doesn't break, get a Lexus.

If you appreciate engineering and innovation, get the Benz.

If you like driving and take pride in your driving skill, get a BMW.

Re: Inifniti G35x or Lexus ES330 or Mercedes E Class

The E-class is just such a pleasure to drive that you will be hooked. You can buy old Mercedes'es, because basically they had the same comfort in mid 90s as most other brands have gotten recently and they stay so well, so I would look in the upper price range of models from around 2000 (above E-class). At least in Europe you can find great value for money there. This is all of course if you want a car that is nice to drive, they look old fashioned in the interior etc.., i.e. something like this:

http://cache.finn.no/mmo/5/101/034/15_1757211448.jpg

Link

It is about 90k here (47,000kms, built 2000), but probably much less in the US and I would guess around the price of your other options.

f all those cars, get a subaru legacy 05+ gt. the cars look sweet and are pretty fast with 250 hp plus a turbo. awd is standard in subarus too.

I was hoping that your response in the other thread was a joke and that you were not going to spend 25% of your new found money on a depreciable asset and another 25% learning how to day trade. I guess you were serious. Oh well.

edit: I guess the day trading was a joke.

justin,

my dad has an infiniti g35 and my mom has an acura tl. I HATE driving the infiniti. It has a TON of power but feels like youre driving around in a big concrete slab in terms of quickness and maneuvering. The acura is actually fun to drive and whatnot. Why are you going so big? Something like an rsx-s would be pretty sweet. Also, my friend just bought a lexus ls350 and it is way better than the infiniti or the acura imo.

Don't really like any of those choices. Have you looked at an A4/S4? What about any BMWs? The new 3 series is hot, but I'd go for Audi over BMW.

Acura's are typically really soft, so is lexus, I don't like that, do you? I like feeling the road, bumps, it helps me feel like I'm in control. If you want to hum along on a cloud get the lexus/acura - pretty quiet and smooth, too yuppy for me though. If you want to feel like you are driving quicksand get the infiniti.

this is a very good post. I would get an m3/m5/a4/a6 over any of the cars you gave as initial choices. driving quicksand is a good description of the g35. my dad just put his up for sale today.

Also fwiw, I'd go for a fully loaded IS over the Lexus ES, but I've driven that and it's much sportier than the ES and I like the design better...

I have an '05 G35 and absolutely love it.

Great handling and lots of get up and go. Very comfortable to drive as well.

If you shop around you should be able to get it for well under $25k. I got mine back in November with 18k miles on it for $22k with the premium package and spoiler and perfect condition.

Get the manual transmission too - it has almost 300hp and you get better rims standard.

You are wise to buy a used car.

I love my TL, but I would recommend buying the Lexus(sans spoiler). They have great feel and are super dependable.

Audi S4 is a very refined, powerful car. There are some reliability issues there, but if you get it with warranty shouldn't be a problem.

Mercedes just feels "older crowd" to me. BMW's generally "snobby". Audi is "smart". Audi S class = "smart and badass-kickyouintheface-but-withaniceshoe" style.

Even more fierce, the new A5-S5. Don't think it's out yet though.

Variance: Least will be up in two years!

E350 is ok. Doesn't feel as comfortable as GS350. Also don't like the interior of the E350. Navigation system sucks without touch screen.

Uhh, why?

Also, those Japanese cars if they were well cared for will last many years. Find a trustworthy mechanic, this helped me dig through motorcycles and find errors an untrained eye would experience down the road to the tune of expensive repairs.

Why? Because the quality of materials in a Mercedes is much higher. Find a 1995 Mercedes and a 1995 Lexus with 150k miles and compare them and you'll see what I mean.
