when i'm not at school, from time to time i help my parents out at their store. sometimes people come by to do western union transactions (for those who don't know, it's a way to send money to people in like, 10 minutes-slightly quicker than a PS transfer, infinitely more expensive).

anyway, someone comes in to send 4k to nigeria. since it's a busy day so far i don't really put too much thought into it.

i have him sign the reciept after i send it and he starts talking about how this investment is gonna make him a millionaire.

"oh yeah?"
"yeah, this guy needs to move out a few million from nigeria but can't, so i'm sending him this money as a token of good faith or some [censored], and he's gonna send me back a couple of million."
".....................you realize this is a scam, right?"
"no it isn't"
"yes it is"
"[censored], you're just jealous that you didn't think of this first."
"no i'm not, seriously, i should cancel this transaction for you."

"DON'T YOU [censored] DARE! IF YOU BLOW THIS FOR ME I'LL COME BACK HERE AND HURT YOU!"

sigh "ok, fine."


i keep forgetting scams like this persist because there are people whose brains have been replaced by cornuts

i should also add that this was done on thursday because on friday, all nigerian western union workers (hilariously enough) were on strike, and transactions to and from nigeria were not allowed.

a week or so from now when he gets no money he's gonna call western union suspecting i [censored] it up somehow. western union is gonna tell him the money was picked up a week ago in nigeria. he'll realize he was scammed.

now if i had cancelled it:

a week or so from now when he gets no money he's gonna call western union suspecting i [censored] it up somehow. western union is gonna tell him an agent (me) cancelled his transaction a week ago. i'll be charged with and convicted of felony robbery. THX BBV!

I seriously can't believe people fall for these type of things.

But I guess if people never fell for it, the scammers would of probably given up a long time ago.

side note: I watched a 20/20 (or dateline can't remember exactly) about these nigerian scams, appartently one of their popular music videos is about ripping off the stupid americans....anyone watch it and able to utube me the vid?
