Overused Movie Lines
There are few things I hate more than watching a scene of an unseen movie, where a fairly generic situation happens, and I say to myself "please don't use x line that I've heard in 50 other films", and of course the line is used.
What lines do you hear repeatedly in film, that shows no creativity by the screenwriter? I'll start.. "I don't pay you to think!" or "You're job isn't to think!" |
Re: Overused Movie Lines
"Very niiiiiiiiiiiiice"
|
Re: Overused Movie Lines
When someone says something dramatic and then repeats it. Who the F does this in real life?
Like: "I'll never let go, Jack. I'll never let go." So cheesy and predictable. |
Re: Overused Movie Lines
"Don't you die on me, goddamit! Don't you die on me!"
|
Re: Overused Movie Lines
That's not a threat..................(omg don't do it, pls, pls, i like this movie, don't go there, i beg you)................that's a promise. (sigh)

Re: Overused Movie Lines

Re: Overused Movie Lines
"Only 10% of the human brain is being utilized"
This line turned me off of heroes in the first episode. |

"How long have you been standing there?" (no please, don't say it... don't say it...) "Long enough." [/ QUOTE ] When referencing lenght in real life i often say "long enough mikey. Long enough." (mikey being mikey from the goonies) |
Re: Overused Movie Lines
[ QUOTE ]
"Don't you die on me, goddamit! Don't you die on me!" [/ QUOTE ] Excellent...it combines an overused line along with FFK's hatred of repeating cheesy lines. |

high five [/ QUOTE ] Great post, traz. You're sooo right, I hear this in movies all the time. It really shows a lack of creativity on the part of the writers... I mean, damn how often are we gonna have to hear someone say "high five" in a movie? Quality contribution, man. |

In a courtroom... "This is highly unorthodox. YOU BETTER BE GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS!" [/ QUOTE ] This reminds me of Law and Order. In every single episode of that show, for the last twenty years, there's a scene where they want to obtain records from a doctor's office/lawyer's office/dentist. When the person says, "Don't you need a warrant?," one of the cops says something to the effect of, "Well, we could get a subpoena for all your records and take a few days to scour through them, or you could just give us the file we're looking for." |

I read all the responses, and most of them are about as off as I was. Ok fine i'll think of a real one :P |

Re: Overused Movie Lines
In the event of an extended misunderstanding, the person who has the wrong idea starts overzealously explaining the wrong thing to the person who knows what's going on, and the person that knows what's going on tries to interrupt them, only to be stifled with - "Shh, let me finish"
I hate that every time. |

But speaking of movie quotes that are used too much in real life: any line from Office Space. I seriously might pistol whip the next person that "has a case of the Mondays". Show me some of that hate, pj. |

Re: Overused Movie Lines
Said to hero: No one's ever attempted [insert seemingly impossible situation] and survived.
Fast forward 30 minutes to hero standing triumphant. |
Re: Overused Movie Lines
Not a line per se, but a scene that has become very standard for heist/spy movies (the Ocean's flicks and the MI series, Entrapment, and so on).
When they're planning how to break into their destination and they go through each way in which its impossible, and how many levels of retinal scans and randomly-moving security cameras there are. And then TOM CRUISE says something like - "and that's the easy part!" That being said, I really love these scenes, lol. |

Re: Overused Movie Lines
not exactly a line, but most sex scenes in movies are all the same and serve no purpose
to give a counterexample, i was pleasantly surprised that the sex scenes in "knocked up" were original and relevant to the story |
