Re: NSFW
I guess some people have various blockers enabled so they don't seem any NSFW material. I don't see anything bad.
Anyway that video was awesome. Here's a SFW YouTube version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0dzZ...p;mode=related |

Weird, it totally looks like he's just lip-syncing to me. I thought this was some fake-cut trailer. Then I realized it's actually what happened on the show and I don't understand why everyone loves the guy who lip-synced. Oh well, I guess he wasn't. Sure sounded like a recording, though -- I'd need to hear it without the backing orchestra.

The audience breaking into random whistling / applause really ruined it for me.

Re: I got goosebumps listening to this voice:
Not a complete shocker though:
(from Bath opera house web site) Paul Potts (Don Carlos) is a relative new comer to Grand Opera after an apprenticeship in Gilbert and Sullivan in Bristol.. His claim to fame is his 1999 appearance on Michael Barrymore's My Kind of Music. This was followed by singing for Bath Opera in Turandot as Prince of Persia and Herald. He has since performed with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and spent three months touring Northern Italy as a soloist, training under top teachers Mario Melani and Svetlana Sidrova. He has been invited back for a concert to be recorded and also for a masterclass with Luciano Pavarotti. Future plans include a summer tour with the RPO. |

I can't edit my OP to make it SFW. Maybe a mod can help? |

One of the reasons I found that clip amazing was based on the idea that a complete unknown nobody could sing this wonderful. Seeing all the training he had takes a lot away from that. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but he's not making a living at it. Also, even though it lacked the technical skill, I preferred his version to Pavarotti's. He packs a lot of emotion in his voice. |

OK, maybe not, but you see my point. My wife was watching the American version of this show tonight. All contestants sang a capella, with a very unforgiving mic that caught every sharp inhale. Let's see Brit Boy try his hand at that. |

For all those that seem to think Paul is a pro in disguise, please realise the following. (or maybe just unfamiliar with what an opera singer or opera company is). - Bath Opera is an amateur opera company staging a small number of productions a few times each year. - Paul has performed in just 4 four productions with this company - Paul has attended some masterclasses in Italy. These courses are designed for talented amateurs. All of these are paid for by those attending. - A few masterclasses, even one with the great man do not constitute "a formal opera training" by any stretch of the imagination. - Professional opera singers earn their living by treading the boards night after night week-in week-out, year after year with professional opera companies. - Paul, has never earned a single penny from opera performance, other than winning a tv talent show in 1999 - the winnings funding masterclasses. - Paul has not performed since 2003. - He is not a professional opera singer pretending to be a mobile phone sales man, but rather he is a mobile phone salesman aspiring to be an opera singer. That's a great story for that guy.
Forget that though, I think I'm in love with the woman on the middle of the judging panel. Who is she? If that's Britain's version of Paula Abdul then the Brits have us crushed on this one. |
