Live 5-5 game AK fops top pair against mega-donk and solid player.

Megadonk is something like 80/50 and has 3bet with 57o, J4s, etc. Postflop he overplays his weak hands, and makes big hopeless bluffs. Solid player and I have a lot of history with each other and we both respect each others games. Both of us know that both of us are each after megadonks money.

I have 600, Donk has 2500, solid player has 450.

Megadonk raises 35 UTG. I make it 90 in MP with AKo. Solid player calls in SB, Megadonk calls.

Flop AQ8r ($180)

Solid player checks, Megadonk checks, I check

Is checking here correct?

Turn 3r ($180)

Now I have 2 questions.

1. What do you do if Solid player makes it $120 and donk folds.

2. What do you do if solid player makes it $250 and donk folds?

Why do you check behind on the flop? I think I bet hoping to isolate on the donk.

LOL at you guys being 'after the donk's money' and he's got you covered 4x ... what is this a 5/5 capped at 500?

no reason at all to check this flop, i bet 225ish and call a push

Despite your sarcasm, if this is the Bike, then yes. California games suck.

I wouldn't check here. If you bet and take it down, there will be a better time to get to the donk's money.

How good is this TAG when he is calling off 1/5 of his stack?

Re: Live 5-5 game AK fops top pair against mega-donk and solid player.

bet flop, you want to play this for stacks, that is best achieved with a flop bet, and your HH says 180 in the pot but there is more like 275 i think...

anyway, def bet this flop and id prolly need more info to proceed properly vs the reg but i think id call either bet size given what i know now

You have to find out something on the flop here, bet 200 and get the rest in on that turn.

Why are we checking this flop exactly with two others in hand?

if its a megadonk raising, why dont you just make it 150 or 200 pf???? Now you made it 90 and let a strong player in and you dont know what to do...

no reason to make it only 55 more when you can't put him on any range/hand and he can get wacky postflop. Make it at least 110 or 125.

maybe online, but i rarely check this live vs. two players. so many donks call with TT on this flop it's not even funny.

I want to know what everyone puts the solid player on when he calls preflop.

Someone calling a raise and then a reraise from a good player out of position? And then for those of you saying I should call the turn bet, you must put him on AJ, KK, or JJ. And that, my friends, is stupid.

jfish 06-08-2007 04:47 AM

Re: Live 5-5 game AK fops top pair against mega-donk and solid player.

you could obviously fold to the turn bet. that is the better play if you think he is so predictable. im not saying you should look to get it in, but calling 1 street is not unreasonable.

daveT 06-08-2007 02:41 PM

Re: Live 5-5 game AK fops top pair against mega-donk and solid player.

Assuming that the solid player is very good. I can't think of him calling anything other than AA or KK pf, in the hopes of pushing all of his money in on the flop.

Its too perfect for him. If he actually has Aces, he has a slowplay, of he has kings, he has an easy fold.

Seems like OP is tied up either way, but you have to bet on this flop and be weary of a call.

PhatPots 06-08-2007 03:28 PM

Re: Live 5-5 game AK fops top pair against mega-donk and solid player.

Bet that flop, you have TPTK and you are 3 handed. This was a huge mistake. When you bet that flop, sb has to realize that crazy donk is behind him and that even if he tries to make a move, Crazy Donk might call.

If Sb makes it $120 I call and if he checks to me on a blank river I bet.

If he makes it $250 I probably shove unless Donk calls, in which case I would need to try and make a read, otherwise probably lay it down.

I just don't see what else we can do.

The only reasonable hands he can have that beat you are AQ, AA or QQ. I don't know if he will call of 1/5 of his stack preflop with AQ. He might be slowplaying AA or QQ on you, but not much you can do.

yes...in upsidedown land.

your bet would give solid-head two options fold or shove and you know where you stand with him. donk may get irritated and bluff his chips to you. any turn card is dangerous with donks range, so a bet seems correct.

i love when people give the wrong advice but sound arrogant and cocky like its right. that was for the people shouting zomg tptk u cant check this ever. big_jim im curious how you continue with the hand. i think id call 120 and probably let it go for 240 from the solid player. it does suck to fold this live though.

Good fold here. This player is not that good.

I see how you could condone the check on the flop, and it was well-timed here, sometimes you do things in a live game you can't explain, ie, you act oddly because something smells bad.
