Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/play...=r&n=52461
This young phenom burst on the live tourney scene after years of online cash game and tourney domination. In 2005, he finished 27th in a WPT. In 2006 he had his first WPT final table, finishing in a heartbreaking 2nd place for $650k. He followed that incredible performance with a string of cashes and final tables in the 2006 WSOP. Only bad beats were able to keep him from multiple bracelets. Feeling robbed not winning a bracelet after multiple dominating WSOP performances, Alex took a few days off to really work on sharpening his game. With renewed focus, he attacked the WPT again in October 2006 with a 1st place finish for almost $900k, his first major title. He followed that up with yet another money finish in a WPT a mere two weeks later. 2007 has been another banner year for him, already winning a $10k tourney, the Ultimate Poker Challenge Championship. With a victory in hand already this year, he heads into the 2007 WSOP with unprecedented momentum. He currently is massive chipleader at the final table in event 3, having sliced through a field of almost 3,000, now vying for a first place prize of over $700k and a coveted World Series poker. I don't think the poker world has ever seen such a dominating and consistent tournament performer in its history. Most pros in the know are already talking about Alex Jacob as the best of all time, and in this case, they are unlikely to be wrong. |

i thought we already established that TECHNOLOGIC is obv the best of all time. |
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
also, youre really gonna omit him winning the uspc?
|
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?

Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
but how much did he lose?
|
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
i think he's probably pretty damn good, and there were probably only one or two hands that he played in the uspc on tv that i thought were bad
|
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
There is no question that he's capable of winning multiple bracelets this year. I've been reading his blog religiously. Linkage.

Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
i am 1-0 against alex in heads up freeze-outs. does that make me the best?
from playing with alex and talking to him a fair amount about poker, i wouldn't hesitate to say he could be the GOAT. |

Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
Jeff Madsen will disappear from the tourney circuit within a year. He'll be next year's Layne Flack.
|
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
PITTM,
technologic is def not currently the best of all time. He is a guy with real talent who (unlike his student Strassa) has shown real tournament closer skills down the stretch in major events, but he hasn't been around long enough to say whether or not he's one of the greats. Definitely has huge potential, though. |
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
Nick,
Thanks for the catch, easy to get a little mixed up with the never-ending roster of major tourney finishes Alex has to his credit already. |
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
Reassuringly he appears to also have the best etiquette amongst most top tourney players. For example, I remember when he said "gg bro" in the uspc and the guy was very rude back to him and he kept quite despite the guy being a jerk.

Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
All,
Alex takes home $282,367 for a 3rd place finish out of about 3,000 players to start off his 2007 WSOP. |
Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
El D, You need to contribute to NVG more.
We are berated with moronic threads here on an hourly basis, it is good to see some fresh stuff that actually is not stupid. |

Re: Alex Jacob, best tourney player of all time?
aul Evans has the button in seat 5, O'Leary limps from the small blind for 120,000, and Jacob checks his option. O'Leary checks in the dark as the flop comes {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Jacob bets 150,000, O'Leary raises to 600,000, and Jacob thinks for over a minute before calling.
The turn card is the {K-Spades}. O'Leary moves all in, and then gets up to walk around the final table arena while Alex Jacob thinks things over. Jacob is in the tank for several long minutes, and O'Leary might be getting tired from all the pacing he's doing around the stage. Jacob eventually calls after a full five minutes with {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} -- a pair of fours. O'Leary shows {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and he's in the lead here. Jacob needs to catch a nine or a four to survive. The river card is the {6-Hearts}, and Alex Jacob is eliminated in third place, earning $282,367. |
