50 cent makes $400 mill on sale of vitamin water

I just heard this.

Is it true?

Supposely coca-cola bought vitamin water for $4.1 billion in cash, and he had 10% of the company.

It's pretty interesting for the fact that it (probably) makes him the richest man in hip-hop (the list is from August '06):

1. P. Diddy -- $346 Million
2. Jay-Z -- $340 Million
3. Russell Simmons -- $325 Million
4. Damon Dash -- $200 Million
5. Neptunes -- $155 Million
6 Dr. Dre -- $150 Million
7. Ice Cube -- $145 Million
8. Eminem -- $110 Million
9. 50 Cent -- $100 Million
10. Nelly -- $60 Million
10. (Tie) Jermaine Dupri -- $60 Million

I heard on Chicago sports radio Brian Urlacher had 1% of the company and made something like 40 million of this. Apparently, VW didn't pay for endorsements, but instead gave them stock options.

Sorry, you are right, I should have included the facts in the original post.

I am in the investment business and looked briefly at the company several years ago so I was aware of who the owners were. This was after the 50 Cent deal was done, so I know that he owned no where near 10%.

There are a bunch of places now reporting it was wrong, the 10% figure was fiction.

He probably got like 10% of the sales of his flavor or something.

That's what I hear, too. I really like one of the Vitamin Water products, called Dragonfruit. I like it because it isn't really sweet and it is thirst-quenching, not like soda or those sickly-sweet flavored waters.

Once people realize that the only reason 50 cent survived the barrage of gunshots was vitamin water their sales will explode!

Apparently in the his vitamin water commercial people are shooting at 50 cent and he finds his "happy place" in a bottle of vitamin water, where his wounds magically heal.

Thats $300mil in sales not earnings. Reminds me when Quaker oats bought Snapple for $1.5 bil and ended up dumping it a few years later for under $500mil.

Ability to make inroads in other markets? Coke's worldwide distribution network is ridiculous. Before today I've never even heard of this drink.

Vitamin Water is an awesome story. Guy was basically just going from bodega to bodega to try and get it on the shelves. Eventually it got really popular and stores started looking for him.

Crazy that he cracked the flavored water market and coke + pepsi couldnt.
