Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

Ho Chunk finally started a 1/2 NL game on Sunday and Monday. Sunday was $5 per half hour timed rake, Monday was 10% of the pot, $4 max (I think).

Both times they opened it up tables filled quickly and they claim to be willing to run it Sun-Thurs from now on. Not sure where they'll settle on rake, though.

This is nice to hear for me. The 5/10 PLHE game seemed to be drying up and the 10/20 limit is very sporatic. This could be a nice steady game that still offers a decent return.

what is the normal NL game that runs there all week. I will be heading up there for about 4-5 days in late june and was planning nothing but 1/2NL. Do they off 2/5NL regualry.

Re: Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

Until now there was only one NL game per week, 3/5 on Sundays. They also had a 5/10 PLHE game on Mondays. The rest was limit.

So pretty exciting news that they seem to be willing to offer NL most of the time now.

They offer 3/5 NL only on Sundays. Looks like 1/2 NL will be the regular NL game. They also took away the timed rake.

$100 min $300 max.

100-300

This game is soft, people making tons and tons of bad calls. This game is as long as I dont get unlucky I am good to go. unless I make a blunderous error with 2 pair Vs and obvious set. Oh well. Game has spread everday Sund-Thur, but of course on Friday at 1pm we were playing. They didnt do it on Saturday. They are worried that there limit games will dry up faster than..... I think its here to stay, and will be offered everyday.

Incidentally, it appears this game has killed the weekly Sunday 3/5NL game. Sigh.

I'm moving to Madison in a month, and this is the best news I've heard in a LONG time.

Awesome.

What kind of comps do they give to poker players?

With a players' club card you get roughly a buck an hour to use at the in-house restaurants and buffet. You can also use them for stuff (hoodies, golf bags, I think they have a couple home theater systems) rooms and I think concert tickets.

Looking forward to seeing you there Keys. Just stay outta my pots. Especially when I'm bluffing.

would you say this is the only game it's killed or do you think the daily 6/12 limit game is going the way of the ho chunk dinosaur (aka the limit 10/20) as well?

The 6/12 appears to be healthy as the highest daily limit game. They still spread 10/20 on weekends too.

Let me know if they start spreading the bigger games again. I have no interest in driving 45mins for a 1/2 NL game with 10% rake. Ill stick to PokerStars thank you.

Re: Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

I don't blame you, though the 1/2 NL games have been traditionally (predictibly?) soft and pretty beatable. I don't have any experience with Stars so I don't know how they stack up skill-wise.

Re: Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

Mini Ho-Chunk trip report:

I went there a few weeks ago on a Wednesday - arrived 3pm. Started playing 2/4 and hit nothing so I dropped about $60.

Jumped into the $6/12 game at about 4pm when it started. Several very good players, a few loose/passives, and 1 or 2 poor players. Luckily I caught some hands and made about $180...

The $1/2 NL game got going at about 6pm. It seemed as though 3 or 4 of the players knew each other and played in home games together. I started off hot hitting some nice hands, then things went to [censored] after I lost a $300 coinflip with Q8 diamonds on a 668 board (2 hearts) vs. AJ hearts. Left -$150. The game just moved way too slowly for me - I was getting impatient waiting for big hands. But I suck at cash games anyways.

I'm really starting to think the 6/12 is dying. was there on Mon. second weekday in two weeks that it doesn't go. Was there on saturday though and the room was hopping. Weekday tourism doesn't really hit its stride in the dells til july and i'm curious to see what happens then.

Re: Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

Well with no limit around good luck keeping any type of decent mid limit game going. This is the big reason why no limit and limit have a hard time coexisting in the same room - The no limit tables take all of the people that would be playing mid and higher limit games.

DrMega 06-06-2007 08:34 PM

Re: Ho Chunk -- 1/2 NL begins...

You guys are probably right. It looks like Mon-Wed the 6/12 game is in danger, though Thu-Sun most games are still being spread, with 10/20 on Fridays and Saturdays most weeks (NL is not being spread Fri/Sat).

To be fair, though, Mondays and Tuesdays are low-volume nights at this room and often only two tables are running whether it was before or after NL.

Personally I have mixed feelings about 1/2 NL but I'll play where the players are. I just wish they'd get a regular 10/20 game running.

Let's hope the tourists bring lots of moneys!

Does anyone know if they run NLHE tournaments during the summer? They had them on their website a while ago but I haven't seen anything lately

Pokerdemic - I'm told tourneys are in the works, maybe as early as July (apparently there is a whole lot of paperwork involved).

GBL - Ho-Chunk is between Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells.

QFT, they are trying to get tourneys running ASAP, they just need to get the legal papers signed.
Does anyone know if they will ever have 2/5 again? Also, what is juicer 1/2 NL or 10/20?
