Avatars

Can something be done about sexual avatars? I cruise the site at work and I often have to quickly scroll down a page so that someone isn't offended. Is it really necessary to have softcore porn as an avatar on a poker site?

Re: Avatars

Go to your user preferences and select "don't show avatars"

I checked for clarity, the option you want is "View other user's pictures in their profile and user list?" (no) and "View user's pictures with their posts?" (no)

But then I would be denied the hilarity of people who have reasonable avatars.

I just think it's funny that a heavily moderated, heavily censored site allows porn to be randomly broadcast in people's avatars.

If you see an avatar you think crosses the link, PM somebody. Mat's given us carte blanche to remove offensive avatars as we see fit.

So you're saying the rules are in place but only enforced if someone complains?

Why not just be proactive?

Why not take it upon yourself to make them a list of all the terrible avatars?

I looked at one thread in BBV and Python49 has a good example of an avatar that is NSFW.

The problem is that the policy Dids outlined isn't clear. Also, if they have been given authority to remove inappropriate avatars then that also carries an implied responsiblity to do so.

I'm making the pretty simple point that users have a responsibility to report things they deem inappropriate if they want the moderators to do their jobs.

The point was that we're not judging by our sensibilities, but other people's. Something might not phase me, but if it bothers you and you PM me I'll probably do something (fact: that is a lie, I will delete your PM and then laugh at you).

Re: Avatars

I'd still like to know why the "roll of film" avatar seems to belong to every second new poster. If there is a default now to give new users a stock avatar rather than none, please change it back. I'd rather see some NSFW avatars than that stupid roll of film again.

Happy b-day Tuq!

No, no, no. You're supposed to say "why do you hurt so much" or "you didn't get hugged a lot as a child did you" if you want to try and get all up inside someone's head. But really, what do you expect to happen in response to a comment like this?

Hey OP ive just had my avatar removed due to a complaint, even though Ive been using it for months and have had several PMs complimenting it.

Just to ensure this doesn't happen again, can you tell me if my new one is ok?

^^didn't u used to have amp's avatar, mag?? though i'm guessing u switched off that and that's not the one sam deleted...

Re: Avatars

Not sure if Amp was his name but my original avatar was used by someone else from OOT so I changed it to the one I had up until about an hour ago.

Daft thing is it was no worse than my original avatar and certainly not as bad as many others on these forums but I suppose it was just spotted at the wrong time by the wrong nit.

Just hope theres no one out there thats offended by cute babies in bunny outfits

He seems happy enough in person. I mean, sure, sometimes we're playing poker and he just stops and cries for while. But, whatever, it isn't that big a deal and usually we don't have to stop the game for more than half an hour at a time.

I have this set up this way, but I still see all avatars. I have had to wind up using Adblock to block all images from photobucket, imageshack, etc., which is a horrible way to have to do it, because I miss all images in posts, too.

I hate all the animated avatars. Not only does it hurt my eyes to have 8 different things animated all at once, so many of tha avatars are offensive. MasterLJ's avatar, for instance, shows a man runing up to a woman and smacking her in the head and knocking her off a chair. WTF. Violence against women is hilarious. I am glad 2+2 allows this in people's avatars.

It's ok Mick, you made a very good point. OP will have us burning books next.
We still have rights and freedoms last I checked. OP, you surf at work and get caught, that's your own problem. Are you stupid or just dumb? Glad your company is getting their money worth out of you. I bet you for for the government right?
Seriously OP, you are not the only one with rights and freedoms. If i see something that I don't like then i skip over it. Wow, pretty simple and amazing huh?
Why should the rights of one supersede everyones else's? If you don't like the site - don't surf it - you can go somewhere else...kindly, if you please. You always have a choice as does everyone else here. 2+2 is very unique...may it never change.
If all else fails Mods - put it to a vote. We live in a democracy.
