"How has it taken this long for somone to target LV???"

This is

1- making a lot of bad assumptions
2- just a flat weird question.

Dids...I just meant in general. We see lots of people pop off in malls, schools, etc. It would seem to me that there is an even higher % of people who are depressed for various reasons in town like LV (or AC for that matter). I didn't mean to imply a particular group/type of person.

January 2002: A student who had been dismissed from the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia, kills the dean, a professor and a student, and wounds three others.

April 2003: A teenager shoots dead the head-teacher at a Pennsylvania school, then kills himself.

May 2004: Four people are injured in a shooting at a school in Maryland.

March 2005: Jeffrey Weise, a 16-year-old high school student guns down five students, a teacher and a security guard at Red Lake High School in northern Minnesota before killing himself. He also killed his grandfather and his grandfather’s girlfriend elsewhere on the Chippewa Indian reservation.

November 2005: A student in Tennessee shoots dead an assistant principal and wounds two other administrators.

September 2006: Duane Morrison, a 53-year-old drifter, takes six female high school students hostage in Bailey, Colorado, after entering Platte Canyon High School, claiming to be carrying a bomb. He sexually assaulted them and then shot one, fatally, before killing himself when police arrived.

September 2006: Two days after the Bailey killing, a 15-year-old student kills his school’s principal in western Wisconsin after telling another student “you better run".

October 2006: Charles Roberts, a 32-year-old milk truck driver takes hostages and eventually shoots 10 girls girls aged seven to 13, killing five, before shooting himself. Roberts had indicated to his wife over the phone that he had dreams about molesting children.

April 2007: A gunman kills at least 31 people in a dormitory and classroom at Virginia Tech university before being shot dead himself

Dids...I'm not looking to argue here but if you consider 1-2 per year 'very infrequent' then I think we just have a difference of opinion on what constitutes 'frequent'.

Most people consider events that happen 1-2 times a year infrequent.

You seem to think that this information somehow supports your point, but it actually supports Dids' "infrequent" point, so I'm confused. Once a year is very infrequent.

Even though you waive the white flag, I'll throw in, at 1-2 a year in the US, you would expect one in Nevada - not necessarily Vegas, but Nevada about once every 37 years or so.

Obviously that's not exactly right as you'd have to weigh for population density and other factors, but as very rough calculation, it gives you the idea that this just ain't very frequent...

--Zetack

Edit: Ok I just read the link, (which says it was updated 3 minutes ago) and they said it was a murder and the dead person was the intentional target. So it wasn't somebody just going off, it was your garden variety (except for the incredily unusual weapon) murder. And I would put those in the category of relatively frequent. I'm sure vegas doesn't go 37 years between murders.

I was staying 62nd floor of THE hotel and helicopters were circling all morning from 5am on (it was pretty ironic since all day my wife was commenting on how quiet the room was). When we left the entire road behind the tower buildings at the Luxor was closed.

Im sure people here can elaborate a lot more, but it's pretty common knowledge that Las Vegas tries to keep all the murders undercover as to not affect tourism, etc.

My ex girlfriend and her family got a free full stay at a major theme park type place because their hotel had a hostage incident involving a family and an employee of the park. They signed full non-disclosures and it never made the papers. They got a super expensive vacation package for it and basically all that happened to them was they couldn't use their room one night. I wonder what the family involved received?

Tourist places covering up incidents is standard.

Re: Man killed as backpack explodes in Las Vegas hotel parking garage

First off WTF is this even doing in General Poker Discussion? Are we going to get the crime report for every killing in every city with a poker table?

Second, Dids is correct. You list roughly 30 people dead in a handful of acts over a five year period (incl. assailants) before the VA Tech shooting which adds 31. There are over 300,000,000 people in the United States alone. This is tragic for sure but to hyperinflate this as some kind of 'frequent' event is just nonsense.

In the old days when you thought about vegas casinos you thought about gambling, glitz, glamour, fun, drinks etc etc. Now adays when you think about vegas casinos, well the actual word is worried. You are worried about not getting stabbed or shot, and now you are also worried about not being blown up. It is like going into the hood now adays.
