whose line is it anyway?

40-80 i have red 87o in the sb. the hijack, the cutoff, and the button all exceptionally loose passive bad players limp, i complete, and the bb checks.

the flop comes 843 with two clubs. i bet, cutoff raises, button calls two cold, i call.

the turn is Tc. i....?

check the back of your cards then
realize what a pretty design they have

and contemplate wow even
in this desolate card room
you can still find beauty in life

then immediately come back to reality
and realize oh wait im still in a hand

and prepare to fold

Re: whose line is it anyway?

Somebody better than me at poker once said to me "the small blind..that there is check raising territory." Oh wait, that was you.

I know your read is that they are loose and passive and bad but will the CO or button bet this for you? They will all peel this flop with overs and so many cards will make the turn tough to play that I would usually check and hope to raise and isolate.

On the turn I think you have to muck. You beat very little and if you happen to be lucky enough to be ahead there has to be so many ways for them to draw out. The pot is pretty small.

One question: where you shorthanded and pounding them to the point that they were sick of you? That may change things a bit but probably not so much.

Hey I'm not bitter at all, in fact I was cheering you on to do better. Just don't be the Louie who comes in every thread to dip his balls in it.

I agree with you and surfdoc, though, that a check-fold is correct.

(But I don't think mike would be so results-oriented as to discover that his hand was good and then make a post questioning the turn play because of that.)

Even good and experienced players can begin to question some seemingly simple decisions after prolonged periods of running bad. As many hands as we have all played it can still be tough to "just make good decisions and let the results follow" when you are seemingly playing well and still getting your ass handed to you.

Everyone is entitled to a check up now and then. Especially Mike.

Re: whose line is it anyway?

I'd say that if you folded and it turned out you had the best hand here then the villains are all awful, but the fact they are awful is already part of the OP so it doesn't really add anything.

Honestly, I don't see how you can call here. If I called here I would probably berate myself for the next hour for how [censored] horrible it was. If I miraculously won I'd probably tell myself I'm a genius instead.

Well you did just call out of the small blind with JJ when I was playing with you.

"you did just call out of the small blind with JJ"

yeah and i really screwed that hand up. although i think in that game it was the best play because id rather see the flop for 2 bets 6 handed than for 3 bets 4 handed or however it mightve worked out.

DeathDonkey 05-02-2007 09:56 PM

Re: whose line is it anyway?

Haha Mike tried telling me the JJ hand in the car and when he realized how bad it was he made me promise not to tell anyone about it ever again. Oops.

JJ is certainly better 4 ways for 3 bets than 6 ways for 2.

mike l. 05-03-2007 01:28 PM

Re: whose line is it anyway?

JJ esp. oop plays like crap in a game like that 4 ways when an overcard comes on the flop. in a game like that the best play if an AK or Q comes is almost always c/f. it's better to get it heads up or 3 ways max or play it for set value primarily in a multiway pot. if i 3 bet and shut bb and possibly utg limper out that wouldve been worse than seeing the flop 6 handed for two bets. please dont give me twodimes stuff either, it's how the hand plays.

Re: whose line is it anyway?

As multiway post go, this one is pretty small. It's way too likely you are drawing to 3 outs here. Check-fold.

good luck.
