Peavy K\'s 9 in row... and counting

Filthy. Through 4. One more and ties Seaver. Already broke Padre record.

Plus he K'd the first batter of the game, so 10 for the game.

Re: Peavy K\'s 9 in row... and counting

I saw his last start here in San Diego vs. same D-backs. He struck out a bunch early, like 7 out of first 9. Then they got to him, but he still got the win. He helped his cause then with a double and a triple. He just got a hit now. 25 year old stud just like...Philip Rivers!!!! (not 6'5'', cannon arm though...accurate)

Check swing...no strike. It looked close. Walked him. Man.

14 through 6, he may get 20 if he goes the distance.

This is frustrating to watch... ump has been pretty loose with the zone for him.

105 pitches. He's about done. My fantasy team thanks him.

Kinda comes with the territory when you are striking out everyone.

How many did pitches did all the 20k pitchers throw in their games?

mixed emotions here. my fantasy team is filled with the Nate Silver all stars (aka Chris Young, Chad Tracy, Stephen Drew)...and Jake Peavy

fortunately I'm already punting K's!

Re: Peavy K\'s 9 in row... and counting

He got a few calls, possibly squeezed a bit on the record failing 10th in a row walk, but he also got an inordinate amount of swings and misses. Almost all the K's were swinging on the slider. Those low strike calls looked like strikes, the ball just breaks so much, it looks low, but from the side, at least that one that they showed the side view, broke right over the knee. I know the D-back coach got ejected for arguing.

That's 16 ties the Padre record, but he's should be done. Maybe. I think they should protect his arm this early, just hand it over to the bully, as much as I'd like to see him get more K's. He isn't that big of a guy, I am not going to say fragile, but he was not right last year, still pitched okay, but not like this. So they are saying he's probably done.

I think it'd be really dumb to throw him another inning. I don't think there's a reasonable chance he K's another 4-5 guys.

FWIW It ties his own record he set last year vs. the Braves.

Yeah I gotta agree with you guys. It would great to see him try to get to 20, but you gotta think of his future first. I'm sure with his stuff he'll have another chance sometime in his career, especially every time he faces us.

BTW, overlooked in all of this is ole' hooknoses effort tonight. 8 IP, 6 H, 2R, 6k

Oh good lord, I think I'm gonna be sick.

Hoffman gives up walk-off 2R HR in bottom of 9th with 2 outs. Peavy gets ND, Pads lose.

Randy Johnson threw 131 in his.

Kerry Wood threw 122.

Roger Clemens threw 151 in his 2nd one in 1996. His 1st one in 1986 there isn't pitch count data I could find, although it's quite likely it was fewer than 151.

And of course Tom Cheney's 21K game has no record of pitch counts, either. At 16IP, I'm sure it's up there, whatever it is.

That game by Wood was arguably the best single game pitching performance ever.
20 K, 0 BB and gave up 1 infield hit that could have reasonably been ruled an error.
Its sad to think of what might have been had he been able to stay healthy.

In other news, [censored] ex-met Heath Bell has been entirely unhittable all season and has shown an insane amount of improved control. Chances that he, Linebrink, or Meredith get the closing role before the all-star break?

Wood's 20K game was the highest nine-inning game score yet recorded: 105.

For comparison's sake, both of Clemens' 20K games and RJ's 20K game were all at 97. RJ's perfect game was 100.
