Re: Games get tougher the higher you play 100 Stud 8
This isn't nearly as bad as it looks assuming seat 4 had enough of a draw to keep him involved on 5th. He had to bet through the river to fold out busted A-high low hands. When the guy raises he's getting 4.3-1 for the high end, which is more than enough considering the other guy's board and the action. The other guy will have Q high with a random low way more than 1 out 5 times here.

It looks typical for games that are getting heads up on third street. It appears that seat4 is betting seat1's board. I'm hoping that seat4 showed down 77 for his half--if he had JJ, I'll be gravely dissapointed in him.

Seat 4 called the raise with KQ high and the other guy scooped with his 7 low and A high. |
Re: Games get tougher the higher you play 100 Stud 8
What were Seat 4's hole cards? If he had 68 or spades then I could see continuing on 5th but it's pretty hard to justify calling 5th and just pure bluffing both 6th and 7th street.

Re: Games get tougher the higher you play 100 Stud 8
ive played regularly anywhere from .50/1 to 5/10 and a few times 10/20 or 30/60 on stars, and i gotta say, from 5/10 up the games where alot more raising and seemilingy easier to beat...everytime i played at 5/10 i won and 6/7 times i won at 10/20. People will reraise on the river with 2 pairs and stuff like that when u board has 4 to a low straight. Seems like they are just richer donks. The 3/6 games to me seem the most fundamentally sound

Looks pretty standard, except seat 4's ridiculous call on the end not beating ace high.

Re: Games get tougher the higher you play 100 Stud 8
I found this hand sort of interesting looking at it later and decided to crunch a few numbers to evaluate the EV of Seat 4's river call.
If we assume Seat 1 has a random 4-card low on 6th then he has an A in the hole 43.7% of the time. This might seem really high but there are three big factors increasing the probability: -There are several dead little cards already, namely 8,3,2,2 on 3rd -Seat 4 presumably has 2 little cards in the hole himself. -Neither the 6 nor 5 that Seat 1 has up has paired him. This greatly increases the probability of an A in the hole. Seat 1 will river any low (A or not) 31.6% of the time and a low without an A 12.3% of the time. Unfortunately for Seat 4, the fact that Seat 1 has connected cards showing means that he will river a straight and a low 4.1% of the time, so on about 8.2% of all possible rivers Seat 1 will have Q high with a random low. So ... IF you assume the river raise means a made low and only a made low you will win 1/2 the pot with your K high 8.2/31.6 = 26% of the time. Under these assumptions you could call the river getting 3:1 or better for the high 1/2. However, he could show up with various high hands as well, e.g. 56789, flush, trips, aces up. And he could throw out a bluff raise with Q high (or think he's bluffing with A high). Just thought I'd post it since I did it anyway. I still think this river play is dubious but you can plausibly argue for it. And it might give you a reference to make a decision from if you decide to make your own heroic K high calls |
Re: Games get tougher the higher you play 100 Stud 8
I called a river C/R with Q high once. That was a $300 pot IIRC. I won and proceeded to fist pump the air for a good 10 seconds.
