Microbob scammed posts

I moved those posts to the mod forum for discussion. I would prefer those types of posts not remain in the public forums. We don't need copycats and contests to see who can scam the most money. I also suspended the user for 48 hours but this may be adjusted after the mod forum discussion. I would personally prefer these types of posters be banned from 2+2.

I sent Microbob a pm and also an email to the address registered with 2+2 requesting he check his poker accounts. He responded that his accounts were not hacked. I just wanted to provide an FYI for those wondering what happened to those posts and concerned about Microbob's accounts.

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

There have been several people hacked/scammed in the past couple of years from these forums. I think the fact the poster was on here bragging about it diminishes the chance it was legitimate.

yes, all is well.

was multi-tabling on stars so didn't see the thread. I got Jim's e-mail about the thread WHILE playing on Stars with everything fine which I thought was kind of funny.

Only a very select few know my Stars handle anyway.

Since I didn't see the thread I don't know the name of the poster who did this.
I would think this almost definitely has to be a perma-ban though.

Some guy brags about hacking my acct abnd stealing my money and it's only a 2-day suspension?

If he's allowed to stay on 2+2 I would like to know who he is. I think that's fair.
I also believe I deserve to know what the final decision is regarding his ban/suspension.

Was it a poster with more than 100 posts who I would actually recognize?

posters name was "broke rounder"

Had about 125 posts over 2 years.

yes, I've seen him.
He didn't seem like a bad guy to me although I think he might have ticked a couple people off.
Obviously now he's kind of ticked me off a tad.
I don't think I had done anything to him.

Seriously. 2 days for bragging about hacking someone's account?!?! What if he had actually stolen the money -- banned for 5 days, perhaps?

I also think 2+2 should disclose this guy's identity (if they know it), if not to everyone, at least to Microbob.

Re: Microbob scammed posts

It's an unusual one.

The guy invented a dumb story for some obscure reason. Maybe he thought it was funny. Maybe he was drunk. Maybe he thought we'd all think twice about our own passwords. Who knows? Maybe he'll tell us later.

I'm sure that quite a few others, mentioning no names, have invented a few stories in the past. This one was about scamming someone, but it wasn't true; it couldn't hold up as being true; it didn't hurt anyone. I don't think it broke too many formal rules.

He's been warned not to do anything similar in the future, by way of a two-days ban.

I can't see a permanent ban being justified. Perhaps there are some arguments for a longer ban, but a three-days or a five-days ban would be absolute tops for such a first offence in my book, and in reality there isn't a whole lot of difference - if a two-days ban doesn't do its "job", I doubt if a five-days ban would, either.

Individual mods generally decide on the punishment to fit the crime, and I'm happy to back Jim's call on this one.

anyone else think the law courts need more people like Mike in residence? I don't think i've ever seen an unfair call in his existence.

Thank you, Peter. Judging from the content of some of the pm's I've received, unfortunately you might be in a small group there!

I was also thinking, wouldn't it be ironic if the guy's Twoplustwo account had been hacked?

It's an invariable law that anyone in a position of responsibility hears more negative comments, as people will always tell you when something goes wrong, but rarely when everything goes off without a hitch.

I've been naughty on this forum too, so i can say from an observer and an offender's pov that you do a great job

Of course I disagree with you. A few days ban? Is that even a punishment at all? Seriously, that's not even a slap on the wrist. If he does it again, perma-ban him next time. Or will it also be a few days ban?

Re: Microbob scammed posts

this is obv the school of no second chances. The guy has been reprimanded and is on parole, why be draconian?

I think Jim made the right call and Mike was an excellent arbitrator, and it's much easier to criticise. If the op is stupid enough to do it again, then yes i think a harsher ban is appropriate.

Re: Microbob scammed posts

I didn't see any of the posts in question but banning a guy for making up a story which ultimately doesn't hurt anyone seems pretty ridiculous. If he caused anyone any inconvenience or stress then give him a warning and a temp ban, seems fine to me.

Re: Microbob scammed posts

I think a two day ban is pretty lame. Sorry. Just MHO. How about 2 days and a nice nasty custom title for a couple of months. Something like "lying idiot". Suggestions?

Re: Microbob scammed posts

I've always enjoyed Microbob's posts but I don't think this was bad at all. Yes, it needs stopped to prevent others from following up but anything more than a 2-day ban is ridiculous over a lie.

Save some lengthy bans for when he really does it.

Re: Microbob scammed posts

Well okay then.
If so many think I'm over the top in my opinion on this then I'm willing to reconsider.

Obviously this is a bit more personal to me but I wasn't trying to be all 'drama-bomb' about it.
And I do think this is more significant than just some sort of an 'untrue story' he told.

People get 2 day bans for making crappy posts even when they had good intentions or for going a bit too far when they get in some sort of flame-war in a heated-argument.

I think his intentions were a bit worse than stuff like that but I'm willing to be open-minded about it.

FWIW I agree. The dude may not even log on for two days anyway. Ya ya ya...[censored] drama but this has to be two weeks min. If he had done it on OTT he would have been given a really cool title (*) along with the ban.

Bob - what do you think his intentions were? I can only think of one reason for him to make that post. I don't think anyone has ever been handed a suspension in the Zoo for a crappy post, have they?

He had no prior history in his notes. If he acts up again he will get a harsher sentence that could include being banned and/or blocking his ip. The biggest harm in this situation is that I spent about two hours dealing with the situation when I could have been working, playing poker or spending time with my family.

Thank you,

I have to agree that a 2-day suspension is a bit on the lenient side. This stuff is way to serious.

MicroBob 04-20-2007 04:58 PM

Re: Microbob scammed posts

soah - ha ha ha. I suspected he might do something similar to this upon his return but I thought over Jim and Mike's position and realized they had some reasonable points.
I don't think it was entirely unreasonable for me to think that someone who does something like this does NOT deserve a second chance.
But yes, ultimately it didn't really hurt anybody. It was just bad judgement and silly. Maybe he was drunk or something whatever.

terrellk - scan down a few threads to see what we are talking about now.
Upon his return from his suspension he had a bunch of different threads which ended up getting him banned.

Re: Microbob scammed posts

As you know, Bob, but for the benefit of others who missed Broke Rounder's flurry of activity upon his return, he didn't want to have his second chance and he showed us quickly that he was, after all, just another unfunny internet troll, so he was banned accordingly. This time, permanently.
