C/R on a 4-Flush Board: $2/$5 Live

$2/$5 $200 buy in at Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, CA

Villain has been pretty bad and predictable. Will usually bluff when checked to. He's made a few bad calls with top pair no kicker kind of hands, pretty standard live semi-agro donk.

I've been playing quite a few hands, but nothing crazy. Winning a lot of pots without showdown, but showing down winners in the big pots.

Villain raises to $20 in LP with $300 behind, folds to me in the BB with AJo and I call.

Flop: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (~40)
I check, Villain bets $30, I call.

Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (~100)
I check in rhythm, villain checks right back

River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (~100)
I look at my cards again, and check, Villain quickly bets $70, I think for a few seconds and raise all in ($180 to call)

How is this line with the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]? Without?

Thoughts on looking at my cards?

if you've been c/r a lot, i'd so much rather c/r the flop

this line is great w/ the A of diamonds and pretty bad without it i think.

actually, i prefer c/r the flop without the A of diamonds.

the looking at your cards and checking is hot, especially against this guy given your reads. he probably won't be able to resist betting anything.

his turn check could mean he has a big diamond and doesn't want to get c/r off his draw....or it could mean he has nothing or a weak showdownable hand, quite frequently.

i like this a lot.

Definitely considered it, but thought there was more value to be made from letting him bluff.

I hadn't been check/raising hardly at all, either, since I was rarely playing pots OOP, without initiative.

Also, how, if at all, does having the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] affect your line?

I like c/c the flop and leading any turn with the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

then, if the river came as it did, i'd c/r as you did.

Not sure I understand why you'd want to lead a blank with the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] but not without. Seems backwards, to me.

without it I am c/r the flop

I'd cr the flop and depending on how wide his range is on the turn I'd bet again or cr ai, I'm guessing hes the sort of guy to stack off w/ Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Jo in this spot right?

when he checks through I think it doesn't matter if you have the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or not, checking is clearly the best play, I sorta hate cr'ing ai here as a bluff against aggro donktards, but cr ai w/ the nuts is a beautiful play here.

Jim, since he checked the turn, this is only good with the Ad imo, and bad as a bluff.

Re: sults

I think the double check of my cards on the river is great with the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], or any time I want to increase his betting range, in this spot. I probably lose value/gain fold "equity" for the raise part, but I definitely gain a ton with the check part.

In the actual hand, I had the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], and thought to myself "his range should be so wide, here, that he almost never has a hand that can call a raise here," this would probably a good push right now with ATC.

One flaw in this logic, obviously, is that when I have the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], I don't have to fear the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], which is pretty consistent with his line. I feel like it was pretty obvious that he was FOS on his river bet (this is live), but obviously it's easy to say that when I have the nuts.

He folded before my chips crossed the line.

I like your line in both cases. The fact that he didn't be the turn decreases the chance he has the K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. And I don't think he can call w/o those. From his position he should be betting practically everything given how you played the hand and the fake tell.

The diamond check thing on the river probably works best against stronger players but this player could have picked it up as weakness.
