Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

It's clear that with only about 10 games left, there are only 3 frontrunners, but hell, I'll throw Bron in there just for kicks.

FWIW I think this should be locked and and re-opened at the end of the season.

I'd also like to have threads going over contract discussion for the class of 2004 (i.e. Is Al Jefferson a max guy?)

But all of those are best off waiting til the 2006-2007 season is over IMO

Should be this guy, but he wont get it. Lakeshow wouldnt be above .500 without him and they wouldnt make the playoffs. I think Kobe>Dirk>Nash for the mvp. Both Suns and Mavs most likely make the playoffs if Dirk and Nash werent there. If Bynum pans out, which I think he will, watch out!

EDIT: Suns could easily still win their division with Barbosa as a starter.

LOL Michael Ol-a-wa-candy is out for the year. In the article about him, they said his season highlight was 8 points and 5 rebounds in a win over the Spurs. <3 <3 <3 Celtics and the Kandi Man.

Suns have done horribly this year without Nash even though they played a soft schedule when he was hurt. And they lost in convincing fashion to boot in several of the games.

I think it's Dirk.
I also think Tim Duncan should be mentioned in the poll.
I don't feel like rehashing the 32437832 reasons why Nash shouldn't be MVP.

Pacific Division as of now.

PHX 53-17
LAL 38-32
LAC 34-36
GS 33-39
SAC 30-40

You honestly believe that they wouldnt be ahead of LA with Barbosa running the show???

Assani,

While I think Nash is the MVP of the Suns for the first time in 3 years, I think you really have to not put so mcuh stock in 6 games.

My list:

1. Dirk
2. Kobe
3. Duncan
4. Nash
5. KG

This is a convincing argument against Nash's MVP case. Anyway, Dirky Dirk Dirk. Duncan #2. A tangle at the pretty distant three between Kobe, Lebron, et al.

Assani Fisher 03-28-2007 12:15 AM

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

Dirk will win it this year. If Nash hadn't won it two years in a row, the vote would be closer, but Dirk will run away with it as is.

Kobe is clearly picking up steam lately. I think he is the odds on favorite to win it next year, as Bynum should improve, Odom may finally stay healthy, and the Lakers will turn in a great season.

Lebron shouldn't be in the discussion really, but he'll get his before its all said and done.

This is almost certainly true, but to be fair the lakers are not that far above .500. they probably would also fall under .500 with no odom for the entire year.

Wow, random. Who do you think was the "MVP of the Suns" the previous two years? Amare two years ago and ??? last year? I'm really not trying to debate, that's just a weird thing to say.

If Dirk wins that's fine, at least I like the guy. The poll running at ESPN.com today asks this very question (without LBJ though, who really doesn't belong in the conversation). Predictably CA, AZ, and TX are homer picks but the rest of the nation is pretty divided. It was Kobe 36%, Dirk and Nash 32% each at the time I voted, with the apparent difference being that pretty much every state on the east coast prefers Kobe over the other two.

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

Last year I'd go with Marion but I could understand Nash.

Edit: I'd be cool with Dirk, Duncan, or Kobe winning it.

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

we really should be talking about a potential Dirk 3peat this season.

tuq 03-28-2007 01:30 AM

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

Jack,

Marion is too much of a space cadet to every be the most reliable player on any truly good team. I mean I love the guy but it's like he's on his own planet or something. I also want to feel bad for how little press and endorsements he gets for the numbers he puts up, but then I remember he's the highest-paid player on the Suns and I don't feel so bad.

I would expect him to jet after next year, when he's an unrestricted free agent. Between his notorious insecurity and need for constant coddling and Sarver's reputation for being cheap, I doubt he'll get 15+ mil/per from the Suns now that he's entering his thirties.

Also, I must be completely asleep at the wheel for Duncan to even be in this conversation.

The time Nash missed hurt his team as they played terribly without him.

All of the "Well, without N his team would be terrible" arguments are absurd. That's not what MVP should honor. Would Dirk's MVP candidacy be improved by him spiking Josh Howards Gatorade in November and therefore being a bigger fish on a crappier team?

Dirk has missed 2 games, Nash has missed 6. I can't believe that you seriously think that 4 more games is a good argument for Dirk....and I think Dirk should win it; I just don't think this is a reason why.

Really this is a non-debate. Unless Kobe hangs 45+ for the rest of the year or Nash hangs a bunch of 25/20s, it's Dirk in a landslide. Duncan deserves second or third but he'll probably come in 4th (at most) in voting.

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

Explain this to me

1st MVP: 15.5 PPG 11.5 APG
2nd MVP: 18.9 PPG 10.5 APG

This yr so far- 18.8 PPG 11.5 APG

so if he was found to be worthy twice, by the numbers alone shouldnt he win again?

Shadowrun 03-28-2007 08:27 AM

Re: Ok, who\'s your NBA MVP?

during those years when Nash won the MVP

Dirk 1 26.1 PPG 9.7 RPG
Dirk 2 26.6 PPG 9.0 RPG

Dirk now 25 PPG 9.4 RPG

so Dirks numbers are ever so slightly down, but nash's are slightly up

it seems the only thing to stop nash from getting another MVP is the stigma of him winning 3 in a row, and joining an even more elite company than he already is in.
