The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Sure was strange to see Erick snapping at Phil like that.

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD

recap? [/ QUOTE ] board is Td Th 4d 5c Kh and Antonius called Erick's river bluff with 56 after c/r flop and betting turn, and Phil says to patrik "what do you think he had" "flush draw" and Phil goes "yeah me too". The whole exchange was dumb because the FD is the only hand lindgren could have to call twice then bluff the river on that board, unless he was completely floating with air both times. Then Erick got pissed and called Gordon an idiot. |

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
ugh, I'm trying to watch this just to hear the fight and Phil Gordon is sooo annoying it's almost unwatchable.
Never thought I'd turn off a show with Antonius on it... |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
lol that was awesome, Erick owned PG so hard. Here's the link, Monday, segment 2. Hand starts with like 6:30 left: http://www.nbcsports.com/poker/feature1.html

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Seemed a little uncalled for on Erick's part... guess he was a little steamy.

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
I think Erick is upset about the article that Daniel blogged about:
http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-jo...&ucat=& |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Erick pwned Gordon. Gordon was a little too boisterous in his comment and I think that's what ticked Erick off. And I will be a DN fanboy if he posts more blogs like that.
|
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
I LOL'd at Lindgren saying Gordon probably already knew what Ivey wanted to drink.
|
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
I think it's kind of foolish for Negreanu to say that 'non-professionals' should not be allowed to comment on the game of professional players.
If that were true then art critics and movie critics would be out of a job. Even though they would love to, I can't see an artist going: "Okay, here you take the brush, no seriously, here you take the brush. I'll paint over here, you paint over there and when you can make a better painting than me then you can comment on my work, until then STFU." Poker players have gained celebrity status by putting their game on display. If they like the endorsements, book deals, freerolls and tv shows they should also be a little thicker-skinned about comments about their game. I think Negreanu is a great player and fantastic ambassador for the game but I think he is wrong in this instance. His article is the equivalent of : "Don't be dissin' on my bOI! Ungh!<insert head bob>". Also, if you're going to use the word 'buffoon', it's really, really important you don't misspell it |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
I played with Erick twice in world series events.
Seemed extremely calm and very friendly. So Phil must have really annoyed him because that seems very against his personality. Id have to agree with Daniel though. Erick's poker accomplishments dwarf anything Phil has acheived. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
WTF is that speech Gordon gave at the start of the show? Already the table didn't seem to like him.
|
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
I posted this in the PAD thread before I noticed this thread....
Gordon obviously has a deep need to be approved of. We saw it last time he was on PAD and we instantly saw it again. PA says he put Eric on a diamond draw and Gordon instantly says, "Me too", which of course, sparked the incident. Lindgren's response was due to Gordon's own insecurity, at least that's how I see it. Gordon and Hellmuth are very, very similar in this manner. Gordon desperately wants to be a part of the "in" crowd, as does Hellmuth. Gordon (and Hellmuth) knows that Ivey, Lindren, Antonius, Harman, are considered poker royalty and are extremely popular. Gordon really wants to be in that group as well. Since he's not going to get more popular, his only hope is to prove how good, how smart, etc., he is. He does this by calling out hole cards post-play. He did it last time he was on the show as well. When Eric called him on it, he instantly realized how bad he sounded, got totally embarassed, and had to shut up. Hellmuth just keeps talking however |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
PG is always trying to show how smart his he with his mouth. He really should show how smart he is with his play. But does not seem to be on the level of guys like EL.
His exact percentages getting blurted out on every hand are a little annoying. Anybody with a 9th grade education can be tought how to figure the percentages in a few minutes. This is not rocket science. I used to like PG but his know it all big mouth is turning me off to him fast. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
That's one of the most offensive displays I've ever seen on televised poker, putting Eric right up there (down there?) with some of Tony G's worst stuff.
|
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
i.) Cleary Phil G showed bad table etiquette in critiquing/showing off after E-Dog got caught in a bluff. (Plus he has a history of such comments and antics...).
ii.) But did E-Dog overstep any boundaries himself? It felt like he got caught up in the emotions of the moment and blasted Phil (though for good reason). It's just that the tenor of his comments were a bit on the strong side (esp., the hilarious comment about Phil Gordon knowing what Ivey wanted to drink already...that was funny, but very mean too.). And what was up with Phil G. messing with Patrick A. sayng "what is it like to be the CHOSEN ONE...at what age did you know u were the ONE.." etc.. -TheMan |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Even before that dust-up, Phil Gordon sounded really bitter and passive-aggressive. If he was trying to be light-hearted, then he needs to work hard on his delivery. It seemed like no one was amused at the table.

Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
From segment 4:
Erick: I didn't mean idiot in that [inaudible], I just meant it was an idiot comment. A few seconds later ... Erick: I'm just teasing you Phil. It just sucks to get piled opon when you get caught bluffing. Phil G: Yeah, I know. I appologize. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
that speech at the beginning really pissed me off. what the hell was he talking about? i actually had to pause the show and look away.
i don't think lindgren went too far with his comment, but he certainly tested the boundaries. if he didn't say anything gordon might have started commentating out loud on every single hand. great to see antonius on a show with lots of play. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
"Can we be friends again?"
"Hell no" "That's assuming we were friends to start" "Yeah that's a pretty strong assumption on your part" LOL well worth watching. Poor Phil he's getting ragged on by everyone these days. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Wow I missed this Ep..I definetely need to watch it and see what happened.
Thanks for the link. for the article and episode..and I have to wholeheartedly have to DISAGREE with Negreanu 100% |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
yea he was steaming and seems like a good guy, no reason to not like lindgren over this. gordon can get on edge.

I think Erick is upset about the article that Daniel blogged about: http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-jo...&ucat=& [/ QUOTE ] dn also made it a post on his forums, phil showed up and posted a reasonable explanation, one DN couldnt quite take. heres the thread: http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poke...howtopic=88046 wonder if this was filmed before or after this incident. |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Gordon is just a nerd with bad social skills. He's a nice guy and doesn't ever really mean to insult or degrade anybody. But he simply can't communicate with people very well, and that's why he's an outsider to their clique.
When he made that opening speech: "I usually try to surround myself with idiots at the table but I failed to do that tonight" it came off as really awkward. What did he expect, people to laugh that he "tricked" them with the first half of the sentence and then finished with a compliment? It's just something nerds do because there's a big disconnect between how they think people react and how they actually react. Lindgren just likes picking on nerds, and he does it well. |

this was found on FCP on that thread above:
http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-fo...88046&st=40 "Drama bomb on the way. Poker is going to be like hip hop beefs. DN is Eminem, Team Full Tilt is G-Unit, Greg Raymer is Fat Joe, blogs are like mix tapes and freestyle burns can be like "Your mom overvalues AJ off suit in early position." Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Ok, too much drama for me...i just read all of the FCP threads and it's weird.
on TV/PAD, it looked like Phil Gordon was just being his usual self. i can agree he's probably just a nice guy with bad communication skills and he let loose a little bit at the wrong time (timing is key!). then E-Dog, understandably upset, overreacts and bashes PG a little. of course he feels bad and Phil looking like he wants to cry also feels bad and they make up on the show. that all seemed genuine and cool. BUT, then we get news that this FCP thread and PG's blog article were written AFTER the show...meaning there was still some possible animosity lingering. ...i've read it all and it all seems overblown. couple of guys had a misunderstanding in words. period. -TheMan |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Basically reinforcing Private Joker's comments, I think the opening speech and the question about being "The One" to PA were just attempts at humor that didn't pan out.
As far as the thing with Lindgren, if that hand was played online, the chat would've been: PG: "Nice chase, fish." EL: "STFU NOOB" |
Re: The Phil Gordon-Erick Lindgren Incident on PAD
Phil G. to Patrick A. "what is it like to be the CHOSEN ONE...at what age did you know u were the ONE.." etc.. I almost had to change the channel on this line. What an embarrassing thing to say to another man. I have a man crush, please tell me how you became so super-duper? If Phil is gonna spew nerdy rehearsed lines to be "mister personality" he runs the risk of being pummmeled by someone that don't wanna hear it. I'm glad Erick beotch slapped him. |
