The POG Wiki

It's finally here. The denizens of POGchat have heard about it for a while, and we've finally made it happen. With the generous donation of ad-free webspace by Neil Stevens, and hours (and hours) of hard work by myself, and now Neil & Stephen H, the wiki has been born.

It's not complete by any means, but there's a shell up.

A few ground rules, that I think we should stick to:

- Don't edit another player's page.
- Don't edit the page for a game, unless you are the Mod.
- Feel free to create game pages, but don't make changes to existing ones
- Obviously, the above two rules should not dissuade you from fixing typos & such.
- Before making any changes, create a user account. Use a WikiName, so all your changes link to a homepage. If your regular 2+2 account is not a wikiname, then you can do a redirect to that page.

Most long games are up there already. There's a few turbos, and most of the players are listed as well. I stole HBE's post from a few months ago with the player listing, so some of the newer players didn't make it. You can add yourself, obviously. Don't worry about alphabetizing the player list: it can be done occasionally, once many players have been added.

Here's the link: POG Wiki

Here's some stuff on the syntax for editing pages: http://pog.hakubi.us/SyntaxReference

Re: The POG Wiki

Don't hesitate to fix typos and obvious errors, I would say. You don't need an account to create or edit stuff, but it helps to have one and log in so people know who you are when you change stuff.

My anti-spam heuristics should work rather well, since they've evolved over time against real spammers, but if you see any odd links to prescription drug sellers added by a stranger, please feel free to revert those changes.

If you need admin assistance for things like deleting an accidentaly-created page or whatnot, feel free to leave me a note on my page. Just ask your question there, and sign it with your name like this: '''YourName''' The tripled single quotes make the text bold.

I got lazy about linkifying names when putting up some long game pages; I'll probably only bother to turn them into proper links as people make user pages on the wiki to link to. So make a user page!

Re: The POG Wiki

Leaving notes for a player on his page should be fine I think.

I expect such notes to go through 2p2 or pogchat instead though, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: The POG Wiki

I think it would be cool for every page to include a comments section where anyone would be allowed to say what they want on that player or game.

This is amazing. Nicely done guys.

Feel free to add a heading to any game page, for example:

= Discussion =

'''Chuckleslovakian''': http://my.host/lolvillage.jpg

'''NeilStevens''': Heh, I love how we got you lynched you while silenced.

Very cool site. I actually have a lot of this information. I was hoping to finish this by the anniversery of POG (early april). I just find it interesting to keep track of old games. Entering it in seems complicated so I emailed it too neil. I'm glad others are also interested in this. Perhaps I should have stopped by POG chat a few times, oh well.

I have game summaries through election and some player stats.

Speaking of which, I got my sort program up and running and did the first sort. If anyone has any suggestions on better layouts for that page, let me know.
For now, I'm lazy about writing a complicated sort algorythm, so - sorts before the alphas, and [ sorts after them, which put -zero- at the front and [censored] at the end. The sort is case-insensitive, at least.

It takes 10, maybe 15, minutes once you figure out the syntax.

Re: The POG Wiki

And half the text is just made up of your rules posts, just copying and pasting in your descriptions of the roles. There is a bit of work in adding the player/role list, but Zurvan might even be estimating high the time it'll take you.

The best part is the people in each game, with roles, and winners.. that looks like it'll take the longest. I'll get around to mine eventually on a slow day when I'm bored and don't want to work (unless someone else beats me to it...)

Feel free to change any mistakes I may have made.

sticky?

Neil S 03-10-2007 08:34 PM

Re: The POG Wiki

I wouldn't sticky this thread, because my understanding is that 2+2 policy requires sticky threads to be locked.

Putting the wiki into an existing sticky, or a separate thread for a new sticky, I think would be great, though.
