The \"In\" Thread

The admissions cycle is coming to an end. For those about to start (or restart) school, tell us where you're in, where you're out, scholarship brags, rejection beats, etc.

I'm not sure about graduate level, but undergrads don't usually hear about acceptance/rejection until April.

About to apply to Kent State. No scolarships as I seriously slacked in HS. Got a 27 on the ACT, pretty much my only brag.

UT-Austin for law school. Pretty happy about it, no way I could believe I'd get in just a year ago.

I'm not sure this counts for this thread, but as per my other thread...

I was re-admitted to ISU as a student seeking 2nd bachelors. I then recently switched majors so I won't be getting my degree. But hey, it still kinda counts being readmitted temporarily right?

Haven't chosen yet... still planning on visiting the schools and meeting with professors and the like.

Leaning toward Harvard or Princeton probably. Chicago has one awesome professor (best anywhere for what I want to study probably) but not much depth. Columbia has a couple of great people but also is a bit short on depth (particularly in British history). Stanford has good breadth but doesn't have a direct specialist in my field as Harvard and Princeton do.

As far as Yale... they have maybe the best overall history program in the country, but they have little in my area (basically, history of science / intellectual history 1500-1800, particularly Britain and British Empire). Ditto Berkeley.

Average SAT: 1040
Average ACT: 22
Total applicants who are accepted: 84%
ACT Composite Range (25-75%): 18-24

getting a 27 on your act for Kent is good.

Based on the information you have given, I would have put it at even money you would have gotten rejected from GMU.

Schools do this all the time: they reject people who they assume must be using their schools as safeties. It's a classic "yield manipulation" play, designed to avoid giving offers to candidates who are very unlikely to take them. (For example, a friend of mine with very good credentials in high school who went to Harvard got rejected from Tufts for no apparently good reason.)

Also, 17 schools?!? I have to give you credit for one of the most extensive and most wide-ranging (both in terms of type of school and location) college lists I've ever seen. You must have gotten crushed on the application fees, though...

Actually it was 19, but most of them waived the fees so it didn't cost too much. (I forgot Michigan who put me on hold months ago and Virginia who let me in but hasn't offered any money... hmm..)

It looks like it. I talked to their financial aid people about deferring so I can tour with my band this year. They want me to request a "binding" deferral which means if they say yes, I'm committed to go there. Tough choice considering the schools I'm still waiting on aid from...
