Offcial MicroHULA Rules and Sign Up Thread

I took these rules from the previous thread and modified them as was discussed, including the redistribution of deposits.

For those of you not familiar with it, HULA (Heads Up Limit Association) is a tournament run on the 2+2 boards every so often for people to practice (or perhaps flaunt) their HU skills. It runs in a team format with a captain and 5 other team members, each of whom compete in a round robin format against the other teams. The stakes of the entry fees in the past have been $100-$200, but for the version we'll run in Micro, the stakes will be just $20. This isn't designed to be a big score for the best HU players. Instead, it's supposed to be a fun time for learning and bragging rights. However, any self-respecting poker player always has a little money on the line . Here are the official rules, based on the post from Perseus about the HULA tourney in March 06, with a few of my own modifications and clarifications.

Entry
- There will be a $20 dollar entry fee which will go to the prize pool. Additionally, each player will be required to submit an addtional $10 deposit. This $10 deposit will be returned after the player successfully completes all of his or her matches. If a player does not complete all matches, his or her $10 will given to that players team to compensate them for their team mate's slacking.
- If you with to participate you must sign up in this thread and submit your entry fee and deposit by a $30 Stars transfer to MrWookie (that's my Stars name, too). In about one week from today the list will be closed and the captains will hold a draft. Players who've not submitted the entry fee will not be eligible for the draft. In the event that a player is not drafted, his or her entry fee and deposit will be promptly refunded. If we don't get enough interest for this to happen, same thing.
- Captains will receive 5% rake from each player on the team. Therefore, the captains will receive 120% of the individual prize payout and other players receive 95%.

Draft
- There will be six teams consisting of a captain and five other players.
- Captains will be picked from whomever volunteers to take this position.
- The draft will take place in an AIM chat room.
- Players will not be eligible to be drafted unless they've paid their $30 in advance.

Season
- Each week, the teams will be paired off as home and away teams. The home team captain will determine which players from his team match up with the members of the away team. However, both captains must play each other unless one or both captains have elected to sit the week out. Away team captains are responsible for notifying the home team captains with their rosters (i.e., who's sitting out) immediately at the start of the week.
- Each team match will consist of 5 individual matches. Since there are six team members, this implies that one team member will sit out each week. No team member will be allowed to sit out more than twice and may only sit out twice in the event of extenuating circumstances ("He's not any good!" does not count as extenuating circumstances). One, possibly two, team members will play every match.
- Each team has one week to play the other. At the end of the week if there are unfinished matches you have 24 hours to get me e-mailed or PM'd proof you tried to contact your competition at least two times. If proof is shown, your opponent has 48 hrs to make up the match or else they forfeit. If both players agree to an extension, then this must be played within five days of the end of your scheduled week (so then you have a total of twelve days to play your match instead of seven). Extensions will only be granted by me if I see an e-mail or PM from each player before the week is over. If any match goes past the deadline and there is not specific blame on any one party the entire match is void. There will be no exceptions to this rule
- The season will last for five weeks
- At the end of the season there will be an optional seven days rest period to clean up outstanding matches. If the two prevailing teams both wish to start their championship match immediately, they may.
- The two teams with the best overall records go to the championship. In case of a tie, individual wins from all the matches will be added together with the team showing the most wins moving to the playoffs. If there is still a tie, the two captains of the tied teams will pick two other players and play a three game match in the bye week before the playoffs.

Matches
- Matches will consist of a 50 BB buy in.
- After one hour, if the winner is not decided, each player will rebuy for half their stack, effectively doubling the blinds.
- If after a second hour a winner is still not decided, there will be a second rebuy for half stacks.
- If at the time of the rebuy a player's stack is less than twice the minimum buy-in, preventing a rebuy for exactly half stacks, the players will continue playing until BUSTO or as soon as the player has enough to rebuy for half.

Championship
- All six team members will play in the championship match. The home team will be decided by the team with the highest ranking in the regular season.
- In the event of a 3-3 tie, each captain will pick two other team members to play a deciding 3 man match. The home team for the tie breaker match will be the away team from the original match.

Payouts
- 70% of the total prize pool goes to first place
- 30% of the total prize pool goes to second place
- The individual $10 per person will be returned after the playoffs have ended. I will hold the money during the season.

Sidebets
- Sidebets are encouraged, esp. by players who wish to play for higher stakes. However, to prevent people from altering the decisions about line ups, or possibly throwing match ups, the only sidebets that will be allowed are of the sort where someone bets that his or her own team will be more successful than the team of the person on the other side of the bet.

Sites
- The preferred play money sites are Prima and PokerRoom (OnGame). Participants should be able to play on at least one of these sites.
- Playing on another site, for example, wanting to play for real money, is allowed if both participants agree. Matches may be played for any stakes that the two agree on.

Disputes, changes, etc.
- Any disputes or modifications to these rules will be resolved or made only with the consent of the commisioner and the captians.

These rules will be enforced. This is a big commitment, so don’t sign up if you’re not going to be able to handle playing all your matches

If there are any rules I left out, anything you want changed, or need clarification now is the time to speak up.

Summary: Play MicroHULA. Follow the rules. Send me your money now if you want to play.

Also, we're looking for 5 more captains who are willing to have their teams shamed and embarrassed by the dominating power of my team. If you're interested, say so.

Re: Offcial MicroHULA Rules and Sign Up Thread

We'll have the draft, hmm, prolly next weekend unless all the captains are available on like next Thurs. evening. Matches will start right after. I figure we'll do a Tuesday-Tuesday week (works w/ my schedule well, and it's better to have a whole weekend in the middle of the "week"), but with a couple extra days in the first week while people get organized.

I'd like to ask the away captains to PM or announce the team member that's sitting out by Monday night so that the match ups can be posted promptly on Tuesday.

As much as I'd like to be captain again, I just don't think I have the time at the moment. Maybe things will change or maybe you guys will NEED another captain. Right now, I'm just a normal team-mate.

Does FTP have a minimum transfer? Can I send just $10 back to you? Really, w/ Neteller out of commission, I'd rather not have to deal with money in many different places, and I don't have enough money on Stars to cover more than a couple buy ins this way. If you could arrange a swap of funds, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Offcial MicroHULA Rules and Sign Up Thread

Wookie, I want in but Im concerned that scheduling could be difficult given my timezone. I mean, last year I was able to play games in my morning (US evening) even though i was looking after the kids. Despite now having a good selection of disney videos the state of play with my 2 boys is that they are way too active to let me do the pokerthing in the morning....actually my 3 year old is perfectly capable of watching an entire DVD but the 1year old is a handful

Sooooo, what would really help would be if captains were sympathetic in the pairings. eg if my team is playing a team with Gib/Snitch/Jago then set me to play them. The worst timezone for us Aussies is the West Coast of the states. Euro isnt too bad (my evening is euro day so weekend games shouldnt be too hard to arrange)

anyone got any comments, if it is too hard then I wont play but I want to if possible. FWIW I think it shouldnt be too hard to arrange one or two matches versus an American/Canadian but honestly for me 5 would be too much unless my opponent is really flexible.

I may as well ask, how many Aussies are signing up? How many Euros? getting a feel for the numbers would be good

thx bros

Z

ps takes 2 days annual leave, public holiday monday = 5 day weekend. awesome

I'm not going to make it a rule, but asking the your captain or the opposing captain to do the line up in this manner nicely would be a good policy.

I'm really keen to play this.

But as Aussie mentioned there will be time issues.

In that case I just wanted to express I'll be available US EST Friday evenings early Sat mornings & Sat evenings. All other times I'll be available between 2:00am -> 7:00am US EST SUN -> THU

If anyone thinks this is unreasonable please let me know & I'll won't play.

Re: Offcial MicroHULA Rules and Sign Up Thread

I would also like to play.. but I think I'm gonna have a pretty large schedule conflict with me being on a cruise from Apr 14-28.. next time then I guess.

I'm gonna suggest we have one again in June

fair enough. what the hell, count me in.

For my own self-obsessed reasons I may as well stick a poll in...commonsense applies when working out your timezone. meh.

Gib, I'd be pretty confident that we will get at least 3-5 aussies sign up and at least the same number of euros for whom it shouldnt be so hard to arrange a time with. So just signup and we will deal with the logistics later.....now we just need the draft to go smoothly so we dont call get picked on the same team

I read the entire ruleset in the preliminary thread, so I'm going to take a tl;dr and assume it's the same thing, sorry.

Question: What stakes will we be playing at? Buying in for 50BB 4 times (not counting the overtime rebuys or championship) seems like there could be a lot of extra bets lost going up against the 2p2 elite.

I'd totally play but I have neither stars monies or time between my classes and my job to play. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to make time consistantly enough to join in.

Ok, here's the deal: I want in and I will captain. (Next I'll be effing signing up for Session Reviews, and then trading in my boxers for the bikini euro-briefs all the rest of you wear.)

Question: I've only got accounts on 'stars and ub these days. How big a pita is it to sign up for US players on prima? (Wait a minnit. Hot damn, my H'wood account is still live. Never mind.)

Ok, I'm in. $30 coming your way, Wook. I think you'll recognize who it's from.

Turns out I do have a question:

[ QUOTE ]
- After one hour, if the winner is not decided, each player will rebuy for half their stack, effectively doubling the blinds.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're playing 5/10 (the lowest I can create on H'wood) how does....oh, wait, you're cutting your stack in HALF, not ADDING half. Got it. Never mind.
