Live 2-5 NL - AA Monster

This is live at MGM's poker room about 2 weeks ago. 2-5 NL, I had been playing for about 2 hours and I have $350 in front of me, everyone else covers. My image is very tight at this point, I've been very card dead and most of the players at the table are good and aggressive. I've also made some CB's that haven't panned out and had to C-F on the turn.

2-5 NL, 10 handed
I'm UTG+2 (seat 8) w AA
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
I raise to $25 and get called by seats 9, 1, 3 and 4.

5 of us see a flop of A 6 7 rainbow.
checked to me and I bet $50, only seat 9 calls.
He's been involved in a lot of pots, liked to limp in a lot and has played some pots very aggressively post flop. He has just won a big pot

Turn is a 7 (might have put a flush draw on the board).

Pot is 225, its my action......

Given your hand, stack size, and pot size, what in particular is your question?

I would check. U noted that he has played aggressively postflop so make him think that the 7 scared u. I would c/r or possibly even c/c to pretend that u r actually scared of the 7. Then u could c/r river giving him a chance 2 bluff again.

I checked and smooth called a $60 bet. River is an offsuit 8.

Board is A6778 now. Its my action and I have ~$225 left.

Stinkpaw - looking for a line check and ask how others would play this.

I think you should check. I don't think he checks behind if he has a hand that can call a push. Maybe the sheer weirdness of the line will get you a WTF call with something crappy but I don't like your chances.

FWIW I like the hand so far.

60 dollar bet.. wow that is weird, he either has a 7 or completely nothing, either way i think i check and let him A) bluff at it again or B) fire the 7

Advice in this thread is awful.

Mez,

it is very important for you to be seen betting your monsters strong here. He is most likely not going anywhere with a 7 and you are most likely not getting much more outta him with less. So bet like a man on the turn, not a litle girl. Others will pick up on the fact that you are trying to milk a cow here and not give your strong bets (when you have a good but not monster hand or your bluffs) as much respect. That is bad.

Just for the record, I checked the turn like a little girl. Seat 9 little girly bet $60.

I agree that his bet was weak. I was hoping he'd at least 1/2 pot it.

jlocdog - I agree with the rest of the post, but I'm pretty sure you're assuming that I lead the turn. If I hadn't had such a tight image, I think I would have lead the turn for ~$150 or pushed.

Re: Live 2-5 NL - AA Monster

no lead turn for like 90 so u can shove river for like half pot

Mez 02-27-2007 05:39 PM

Re: Live 2-5 NL - AA Monster

I actually thought he was fairly weak (99-TT, maybe JJ or 88, maybe a mediocre ace like AT) after his small bet on the turn. I lead $100 into the river. He tanked for a minute or two before calling with AQ.

jlocdog, wdead - I see your points about betting stronger on turn. At the time, I had so card dead and tight that I really thought he would fold anything less than a 7.

whenever i flop a set the turn always puts three to a str8 AND flush on the board.

not stacking him here is criminal

if you had just made a decent sized flop bet, it would have been impossible for him not to get his stack in here

Re: Live 2-5 NL - AA Monster

mez,

What Hindsight said is what I was trying to say in my post. 'Not stacking him here is criminal'

As for my misread, yes I thought you bet $60. The fact that he led for $60 should allow you to raise very comfortably knowing that you are enroute to getting his chips. And not to sound too results oriented (which it will probably look like) but I did mean to add that AQ/AK probably can be thrown into the 'I have a 7 and am noyt going anywhere' category.

This hand is a perfect example of what not building yourself a pot can do to your EV.
