How many people have you met as the result of the Internet?
 

That is, how many people have you met in real life, and became real life friends, as the result of an Internet community like 2+2? I've met at least 5 people that I would consider good friends and a fair number of acquaintances, people who I don't really hang out with but still consider "good people". Don't laugh. Once you get done with college and have to move to a new place, it can be difficult meeting people you actually like to spend time with.

I've only "met" 1 person on the the internet who was actually advertising a poker game. However, from that poker game I met my ex girlfriend and two of the three people I now consider to be my best friends.

More interesting than "new" people, are old people from H.S., College, or the Army that I haven't seen in years and got to re-connect with thanks to myspace and other such networking sites.

I've met about 10 2p2ers. Only one of them is gay enough to text me constantly. The rest I would consider friends or friendly acquaintances.

i technically met my wife online, but it wasn't until we bumped into each other at the mall and recognized each other that we really started to talk/get to know each other, so I consider that (at the mall) the first time we met.

i have never met anyone else from online IRL.

I've met up with like, oh I dunno 25-30 people that I knew relatively well on the internet for a semi-long or long period of time and then met up with IRL, but most of them I'm not "real-life friends" with even though I meet them sometimes. However, I met my first roomate on the internet like 3-4 years ago, moved in with him 6 months ago, although I moved out again 2 weeks ago, heh. But yeah that's a solid one. The rest are mostly online friends still except we meet up sometimes/rarely.

I've met one person because of 2+2 who actualy lives about 2 blocks away from me. He doesn't post much, but he figured out what town I was from, and pmed me about it. He's a pretty cool guy.

I couldnt even begin to count how many people Ive met. Between quake LANs, 2p2 meetings, and internet dating ive prolly met well over 100 people. Of those several are really good friends, and Ive also met a ton of other friends who im really close with (including my current GF) through people ive met online.

I know people like to make fun of this kinda thing, but I can honestly say that less than 1% of the people ive met from online have been weirdos or suprememe mega nerds

I met/know a ton of people from local sportbike forums. It's interest based, and we ride together quite a bit. Outside of rides, we hang out from time to time, but not too often.

I think it would be sweet to bang a chick I met on the net in the novelty sense of the word, but I don't want to pay for match.com, and I hear places like Craigs List are filled with spammers, crazys, and mostly fattys.

You are lucky. I have one text message addict male friend and a couple that are pretty bad.

The one guy will not answer the phone and then text me 5 minutes later saying "You called?"

2+2 is the only internet forum I read/post on, so none from anywhere but here. From here, I've met 3 2+2'ers, IIRC. All 3 worked in the casino industry, and were working when we met. All nice guys, but given that the exchanges that took place barely qualify as conversations, "friends" would probably be the wrong characterization.

Before 2+2, I had never met a soul from the internet, since then, I've met a ton, mostly from 2+2; many have turned into be really good friends.

I've met a number of 2+2ers in real life, most of them at the sort of initial Vegas gathering that happened a couple of years ago. There are certainly a handful that I would say I'm friends with from out of that. I think there are a number of others that I only have spoken to through 2+2 or AIM, but that I would certainly grab a beer with IRL if the opportunity came up.

I've also been in a long running fantasy baseball league, where I've only met a couple of the guys in real life, but know a lot about most of them, which is kind of weird when I think about it.

Plus I had that dude from 2+2 that called me on the phone, that was cool.

I met a bunch of people on a band message board i'm a member of, even got some work as a roadie through that forum.

Been in love with one girl i met on the net (only fell in love with her when i actually met her). Then she ripped out my heart with a spoon and ate it and i think she hates me now. So thats nice.

All my real friends i've known since school.
