2007 Fantasy Baseball Keeper Thread

Basically just use this to try and determine who to keep in your respective keeper leagues. Try to provide cats, teams, mixed or no etc. Ask away!

For me...

Mixed 12 Team H2H 7x7 Keep 4

Cats R HR RBI K SB AVG OPS - W L K SV K/BB WHIP ERA

Team...

C - Jason Varitek
1B - Jason Giambi
1B - Richie Sexson
1B - Conor Jackson
2B/SS - Felipe Lopez
2B/3B - Jorge Cantu
3B/OF - Miguel Cabrera
3B - Eric Chavez
3B - Melvin Mora
SS - Carlos Guillen
OF - Jason Bay
OF - Vernon Wells
OF - Torri Hunter
OF - Coco Crisp

SP - Johan Santana
SP - Roy Oswalt
SP - Chris Young
SP - Cole Hamels
SP - Justin Verlander
SP - Aaron Harang
SP - Matt Cain
SP - Bartolo Colon
SP/RP - Curt Schilling
RP - Jason Isringhausen
RP - Billy Wagner

DL - RP Eddie Guardado, SP Carl Pavano

Its keep 4 this year and we are expanding to 8 next year, this is year 4 we are entering and i am the defending champs. Very competitive, high ammount of trades and waiver activity. Im pretty sure im set at Wells, Cabrera, Bay & Santana. Any other options i should consider?

Is there a maximum number of players that can be drafted from your team this year?

James

Re: 2007 Fantasy Baseball Keeper Thread

Once you keep the 4 players the rest enter the draft pool and we then draft from it. Those players are no longer mine if i do not keep them.

Re: 2007 Fantasy Baseball Keeper Thread

Typical 5x5 Roto League, 14 teams.

We keep 8, also note that Barfield is a homegrown talent exemption, and I can keep him without using a keeper spot.

This is my team :

C - Jorge Posada
1B - Justin Morneau
2B - Josh Barfield
3B - Garret Atkins
SS - Jose Reyes
MI - Aaron Hill
CI - Derek Lee
OF - Rocco Baldelli
OF - Pat Burrell
OF - Coco Crisp
OF - Bernie Williams
U - Travis Hafner

SP - Tim Hudson
SP - Ted Lilly
SP - Rich Harden
SP - Jake Westbrook
SP - Barry Zito
RP - Joe Borowski
RP - Ambiorix Burgos
RP - Jason Isringhausen
RP - Brian Meadows
RP - Mike Timlin

Reserve

SS Bobby Crosby
3B Mark Teahen
OF Jose Guillen
OF Mark Kotsay
OF Cory Sullivan
2B Chris Burke

SP Matt Morris
SP Orlando Hernandez
RP Tyler Walker
RP Dan Miceli

Morneau, Atkins, Reyes, Lee, Hafner and Zito are locks.

So I need to pick 2 out of : Posada, Baldelli, Crisp, Burrell, Crosby, Hudson, Harden and Izzy.

Right now I am leaning towards Rocco and Harden, anyone think otherwise?

I'm pretty optimistic with my teams chances this year as having Morneau, Reyes, DLee and Hafner on one team in a 14 team league is pretty sick

Re: 2007 Fantasy Baseball Keeper Thread

Those are some nice base keepers for a 14 Team league. I would add Harden and Baldelli prolly. Harden is a lock, And i dont see anyone thats a better chouice then Baldelli who i dont love either. So looks like your set.

Same league as Thayer.
8 keepers, 2 homegrown talent exceptions.

I also have a secondary question. Should I just fold my team and give up or do I have a shot at being competitive next year?

SP: Joe Blanton
RP: Bobby Jenks
RP: Jonathan Broxton
RP: Latroy Hawkins
RP: Ron Villone
RP: Jamie Walker

Bench SP: Zach Duke, Tony Armas

Minor Leaugers of Note: Adam Lind, Rajai Davis, Hunter Pence, Scott Elbert.

The way I have it planned out in my head I'm gonna keep: V-mart, Tejada, Giambi, Cano, Patterson, Jenks, Contreras and Wang.

My 2 home-grown talent guys are between Uggla, Sowers and Broxton. I have to choose two of the three. I'm leaning towards dropping Broxton as he probably won't close next year.

Anyone think differently?

Should I just fold my team?

We can keep 6 in this league. Its a 10 team league and
the catagories are a little weird.
Offensive Categories: R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB
Pitching Categories: W, L, Sv, Ks, ERA

Player - Batting
Carlos Beltrán (NYM - OF)
Miguel Cabrera (Fla - 3B,OF)
Luis Castillo (Min - 2B)
Brian Giles (SD - OF)
Marcus Giles (SD - 2B)
Vladimir Guerrero (LAA - OF)
Ramón Hernández (Bal - C)
Matt Holliday (Col - OF)
Julio Lugo (Bos - 2B,3B,SS)
Hideki Matsui (NYY - OF)
Justin Morneau (Min - 1B)
Mark Teixeira (Tex - 1B)
Josh Willingham (Fla - C,OF)

Player - Pitching
Josh Beckett (Bos - SP)
Jeremy Bonderman (Det - SP)
Francisco Cordero (Mil - RP)
Tom Gordon (Phi - RP)
Bobby Jenks (CWS - RP)
Jon Lieber (Phi - SP)
Fernando Rodney (Det - RP)
Ben Sheets (Mil - SP)
Scot Shields (LAA - RP)
Brandon Webb (Ari - SP)
Tim Worrell (SF - RP) - Retired
Chris Young (SD - SP)

Beltran, Cabrera, Vlad, Morneau, Tex seem like they are definites.
Should I go with Holliday or a SP for my 6th keeper?

It would also be a hard pick between Webb, Sheets and Bonderman who I feel are all potential top 10SP.

same league as most here

top 8 possibles, with (E) denoting exemptable.

McCann
Dunn
Utley
MCab
BJ Upton (E)
Fielder
Francouer
Kearns
Swisher
Kendrick (E)

pitchers

Bush
Cain
Verlander (E)
KRod
Street

minor leaguers

erick aybar
justin upton
adam jones
chris young

brandon erbe
sean gallagher
eric hurley
franklin morales
donald veal
kevin slowey

So top 8 should look like

McCann/Dunn/Utley/MCab/Fielder

then a glut of closers/cain/swisher/francouer and having I think 3 non-minors eligible exemptables.

Re: 2007 Fantasy Baseball Keeper Thread

TJ, your league setup is really weird. I highly suggest all keepers being hitters, specifically 6-7 cat guys, simply because they impact things more than pitchers do. Then fill the rest of the pitching staff with closers as possible, try to win L sv ERA and maybe get 4 pts in w/k

a few things:

if anyone wants to trade either two for one or draft picks for players let me know. my biggest names who i am deciding on keeping are oswalt, weeks, granderson, so those guys might be a bit more expendable in trades.

can you clarify the exemption thing for long term? my understanding is that we can use an exemption on up to two players which lasts for two years and then resets? so if we only use one exemption this year, we can use another one next year?

is the e-mail you started mebenhoe going with multiple responses or was it a one and done thing. i got your pm but no subsequent e-mail.

when is the draft date? who has confirmed that they are in for next year? hopefully everyone who owned a team last year is in for another year.

Lets say you use two exemptions on Player A & B this year. You can keep them exempt for two years, or you can keep A exempt for 2 years and instead of keeping B exempt a 2nd year switch the exemption to Player C and start over with a fresh 2 years on C. Basically you have 2 exemptions at all times, and the 2 years is simply the maximum amount of time any one player can be exempt for.
